I am the only one this warped?
Olham replied to Windchill's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Hey, Windchill I could have sworn I posted this already, but no! So again (must have dreamt it): you could google for the free program download of "DXTBmp", a prog to browse through skins with, and to convert them from .dds files to 24 bit bmp files. On the bmp's, you could then work in Photoshop to create your own skins. Then you convert them back into .dds format into the skins folder, which is here: (your game folder) > campaigns > campaign data > skins -
Unknown WWI soldier buried in France
Olham replied to Hellshade's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Have been in Normandy, in some bunker - a very intensive feeling; as if time suddenly dissolves. You almost see, what happened, and you believe to hear a faint sound of hammering machine guns. I will go to some sites, where there had been German airfields. Toulis (Jasta 12) is on the list, as it is almost unchanged. Compare the aerial photo from back then with a Goggle map from today. The village hasn't even grown; the roads are the same. -
Boys, I WILL do, when all the recent private help jobs for friends are done - promised. (One couple moving out; we must renovate the flat; another couple moves into a house they bought before Xmas; lots of work there still). If the skins could be flown individually, couldn't all craft have a different ID letter, so you could switch off the disturbing labels?

Winstons Saterday MP session
Olham replied to sitting_duck's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Good looking Nupes! Some questions: - Can a player fly an individual skin in MP ? (So that at least the numbering could be different?) - Will you only fly Entente side, or later a German one too? -

Wow, this is one of the best screenshots I have come across here, Widowmaker! The failing light making the guns shine and the craft glow - very good, Sir! -
There is "warp" to get you to next waypoint. You will get out of warp, when enemies are near. Check the controls by pressing "esc" in flight or on field. Go to 'controls' and find the right command there. You can even change the key command.

Hey, Luther You download the skin and extract it to: (your game folder) > campaigns > campaign data > skins If you want to skin, google yourself to the free download of "DXTBmp", install it and browse through skins with it. If you find one you'd like to work on, open it and save it as a 24 bit bitmap. Now you can load it into Photoshop or any photo paint program. When it's ready, save it as a .dds file again into the above directory (don't forget to give it an ending you recognise; make a space after the year and type Luther or whatever.

Haha, Morris - I know how that feels! In our "Krauts vs Crumpets" Full DiD campaign, my best pilot (38 confirmed! PLM! Order of Hohenzollern! Red Eagle Order!) had a fight vs 6 French craft; Nupes and SPAD. On his "attack" signal, the wingies didn't react immediately but turned with him. When they reacted, one got badly into my way. I had to perform a sudden jump move, which made me crash into a SPAD roaring over me. Lost the lower wings and the whole engine (!), and fell down unrecoverably. Sooner or later, your string of good luck ends - even for a pilot like MvR.

Good you made a "box" of it all, Creaghorn, cause I'm pretty busy with RL stuff and will only find patience to try some out later. I'm particularly interested in the Spandau sounds. Could you tell here, what "shellmusic" is? But now I know, it will all be there. Thanks for making and all descriptions!

History Channel "Dogfights" Program
Olham replied to Kingkat's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
The skill took me about half a year to develop, Kingkat. So take the time it needs - and don't be frustrated, if you won't have big immediate successes - the sim wouldn't be as good as it is, if you could. -
nbryant, to your point 1): When I fly the Entente side, I always notice, that Albatros do nothing much to evade an attack. It is dead simple to shoot an Albatros down. Just follow it's plump moves and fire enough rounds into the craft; simple as that. An Albatros pilot should at least perform, what we now see with the Nieuports. They where not dumb. But then of course, the Nupe would have to be made slightly better again, too. Maybe in Phase 4?

On my older rig (Win XP) I had to start TrackIR 5 twice, to get it accepted. But after that it worked fine, and is much smoother than TrackIR 4.

History Channel "Dogfights" Program
Olham replied to Kingkat's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Another thing, that happens to me recently again and again: I go to campaign briefing, there I "go to field", but get kicked back to first briefing window. THAT is a clear sign of resolution gone wrong. Go to "Graphic config" then and check the resolution setting. If it's gone wrong, put it right, and now you should get into the campaign. It's an old mistake I had thought was overcome - but no. -
History Channel "Dogfights" Program
Olham replied to Kingkat's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
You should try to "Reset CFS3" in "Workshop" (but it will delete all your pilots!). -
Don't know anything about programs, but my KASPERSKI Anit Virus always pops up an alarm, saying, that the TrackIR 5 program had similarity with a malware. I have to confirm each time, that I want to start it anyway. Not sure if it has something to do with that, but you could try to switch your virus protection off, and try it then. After all, it isn't much of a problem to start it manually.

History Channel "Dogfights" Program
Olham replied to Kingkat's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Kingkat: I am gonna fire up the game and LEARN that flat turn... No way - the sim's underlying flight model cannot reproduce that "Flat Turn". It was discussed on this forum before. There where two or three ways to make a flight model for sims, and if I remember that right, we fly a "table model". (Forgive me, when my memory fails me, Gremlin, and please explain it again!) However - we cannot perform that maneuver. A pity, but what can you do? Well, you can do many other crazy moves with the Dr.1. I have managed to shoot down 5 S.E.5a in that phantastic kite. (Well, of course they where no Rhys-Davids or Mannocks surely!) -
Winston, if you have serious issues, you should mail them to: support@overflandersfields.com Better than posting "bugs" here, where no one can really help you further. And since I did mail to the devs myself, I know they react very quick.

Fokker D VI - Better than the Dr. 1 ?
Olham replied to Olham's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
"Hanging on the prop" translated would be "am Propeller hängen" in German. If there is another special German pilot slang for it, I do not know. Looking forward to your report! -
History Channel "Dogfights" Program

Kingkat: That they were not shot down is astonishing, given Voss' skill. Well, seeing the circumstances - Voss must have jumped and bumped and turned like a helter skelter to get out of so many opponents' gunsights - I find it asthonishing, that he hit some. The rest is good or bad luck. How lethal are the hits. MvR had bullet holes in his flying suit often. He also fetched a round out of one boot. The man must have had ten guardian angels! So, as long as you don't place fatal shots, those S.E.5 keep chasing you. Here's what "The Aerodrome" has about that fight: "Capt. J. McCudden, No. 56 Squadron ... saw a S.E.5a fighting a triplane, so with others dived at it, and for the next ten minutes the enemy triplane fought the five S.E.5s with great skill and determination. Eventually, however, it was destroyed by 2nd-Lieut. Rhys Davids of the same squadron, who had previously driven down a two-seater. . .The triplane was seen to crash in our lines by other pilots and the other occupant proved to be Lieut. Werner Voss, who was killed." Royal Flying Corps Communique "I shall never forget my admiration for that German pilot, who single handed, fought seven of us for ten minutes . . . I saw him go into a fairly steep dive and so I continued to watch, and then saw the triplane hit the ground and disappear into a thousand fragments, for it seemed to me that it literally went into powder." James McCudden "His flying was wonderful, his courage magnificent and in my opinion he is the bravest German airman whom it has been my privilege to see fight." James McCudden "If I could only have brought him down alive..." Arthur Rhys Davids to James McCudden -
Okay, I won't say "Learn to fly", but sorry, Ironhat, I don't have the problems since I learnt to fly my OFF aircraft. I know the strengths and weaknesses of my craft, and make use of that. As I read, you fly in real life - maybe your real aircraft is stronger than the WW1 kites? I mean, these WW1 craft have a bad power-to-drag ratio; one must learn to gain, keep and use energy much more than in a WW2 craft, which was a powerful engined fighter with 12 - 16 cylinders. Here is nothing to be corrected in the sim. I can even outurn the agile Nieuport in a left turn with my Albatros. I can, after gaining speed (nose down for some seconds), even climb after a SPAD and shoot a wing off it, when we both are vertical! But I cannot expect to get after enemy craft, that fly as fast as I can, and are 1.000 feet higher. If they don't make a mistake - I can't reach them.

An original letter from Lt. Schulte, Jasta 12

No, itifonhom - it is 65,- Euro, and I cannot check it's text before. If I knew it contained stuff about Jasta 12, I possibly would. -
Fokker D VI - Better than the Dr. 1 ?
Olham replied to Olham's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
No, I believe, that the Triplane and the Dr.1 where still pretty different. A Triplane could not perform, for example, the flat turn. Turnwise, the Fokker Dr.1 must have been absolutely outstanding.
