Gun Effectiveness
Stratos replied to Righteous26's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
I understand Righteous, and is not fair to compare us with DCS (in some aspect we are more realistic than DCS), but killing tanks is too easy in SF2, and that makes the game bit shocking sometimes. -
All hail Mue!

In mid 70's some structural cracks were found on the RAAF Mirage III fleet, altough a crash program was devised to fix the problem, the Australian goverment decided to buy a stopgap solution, purchasing 26 Mirage F.1 directly from France, the planes were really liked by its pilot and soldiered with the RAAF until year 2000 with some modernization programs in the meantime, surviving the Mirage III for a long shot and also flying along the F/A-18A that was choosen to replace the Mirages. Why the odd number you will ask, the first 24 planes including 2 two seaters were designated for squadron use, and two single seaters were keep by the Aircraft Reasearch and Development Unit in order to devise some specific solutions tailored specifically to thew RAAF, including modified ECM pods, flare launchers and some speficic engine changes. The ARDU F.1's were some of the last to be retired of operational use when they tested some self defense suits that were then installed on the RAAF Hornets. Of course during their ARDU service the two F.1's used the infamous Fanta Can scheme that made the planes a welcome sight for plane spotters and plastic modellers around the world. Even before the chinese civil war ended, the americans knew they will need to fly over mainland China in order to gather as many intel as possible. Daylight flights would be too much a provocation, so the USAF was tasked with finding a plane that could fly at night, fast and capable of being updated with several intel gathering equipment. USAF took its job seriously, but the existing bombers altough providing enough room for new equipment are too slow for chinese defenses, then a WW2 veteran came with an idea, why not to upgrade the existing P-61 airframes existing in USCON storage sites? The crews must be all american, but the planes will fly with Republic of China markings, soon the new EP-61W as the "new" version is to be known was flying tests over Taiwan getting ready for its incoming task. Apart from the new antennas that tell everyone the new plane main task, the EP-61W were updated with new external fixed wingtip tanks, and several wet hardpoints to carry external tanks. Want to say thanks to AngelP for work on the existing SF2 mod, new antennas, wingtip tanks, drop tanks... Soon, more pics of operational history to come! -
The interesting thing of SF2 (never encountered in another sim) is that we can have Escort Jammers, a very nice point for such planes!
