  1. Back in '85 when I was a wee munchkin, I got to witness a pair of Mirage IIIOFs do this and it's silence was what really made an impression on me the most. Being 5yrs old and not knowing how sound worked, to see all these people at the airshow covering their ears at the very fast, very silent dart threw me. Then the sound hit and I entered a world of pain. Poor pilots got into a tonne of trouble when the moment of transonic flight made it on the news and several glass houses on nearby farms were completely demolished during their flypast.
  2. If you take too long, the Canadian government is going to ask you to delete all traces of it... I thought this one was lost to the ether a long time ago. Good to see it's still around.
  3. In the first series, examples of limiters were: MaxSpeedSL=288.79 MachLimit=0.860 Also, engine thrust under the engine entries: SLThrustDry=76310.00 SLThrustWet=129000.00 <<--AB ...also limited the max thrust. By increasing your machlimit number and engine thrust entry (adding an extra 50-100% for example) would result in some pretty tangible increases in speed. One thing I'm not 100% on is these entries: StallSpeed=77.41 CruiseSpeed=257.9 ClimbSpeed=260.60 CornerSpeed=250.2 MaxSpeedSL=410 ...I think were measured in newtons or by some other unit of measurement. I'm sure it wasn't Kph/Mph/Kts and I'm pretty sure this hasn't changed for Gen 2. If I'm wrong, please correct me.
  4. Congrats to you, your son and his partner, Mannie!
  5. No my friend, this is a beast. I know that because it's real, it technically doesn't count. Interesting thing about that Puma was that it was one of the very same Pumas from Red Dawn, sans the glasshouse. It was originally planned to fly it with attached fake glass cockpit, but the required performances in the movie exceeded it's safe flight parameters. Which is why you don't see the Hinds in Red Dawn really exert themselves.
  6. The Syrians screwed up when they started killing their own people.
  7. My god that thing was fugly! First time I saw it, I wanted to give it a bullet and put it out of it's misery. Nothing that ugly was intended to live...
  8. What?! No RAAF variant?? It was the launch customer and named after the capitol!! lol Just kidding, love the new Canberra Paulo!
  9. Yep, he's ancient! Just Like EricJ. Happy birthday ladies!!
  10. I thought the problem with the original was that the 3dsm files were lost in a HD crash several years ago. It'd be nice to see an updated one, it's easily the best looking of all the Vipers.
  11. Yeah, enemy AI don't run out of fuel. Wingmen can, I've had some drop out of the sky from time to time.
  12. Time to make yourself pretty, Widow. We're gonna want to see this on the youtubez too you realise...
  13. By about 20 minutes in, her naivety was grating on me and I wanted her to join some of the other characters... in hell! Great film though!
  14. Better acting!! For the love of all that is holy, hire some f$%&ing writers that know how to write dialogue for someone older than 18 AND hire some actors who know how to act!!! I don't care how visually wonderful or how compelling the gameplay supposedly is, if the dialogue is cheesy, badly written tripe, it kills what's left of the immersion. I can't play a console game these days for that reason, hammy, crappy... just woeful acting! If you're spending tens of millions on producing a product, DON'T SKIMP OUT ON DIALOGUE. Goddamn Deux Ex and Modern Warfare made me want to throw a brick at my screen! I haven't played the new Ghost Recon yet, but I'd bet a nut that the acting will suck. The General from GRAW 1&2 was WAY OTT and just about every action shooter is as well these days. Case in point: We deserve better than this. This^^ is just... insulting. ...now excuse me, I need to have a little lie down after that vent.
  15. I think the sad part is how the ink on the sales/refurbishment contract was signed, then the Russian government decided to renegotiate the price. India got d*cked on that one. I'd be interested to see if the Mig-29s are wholly built new and not using components or extensively modified 'old' airframes. It's a shame, they make some fine military platforms in Russia but some of their companies try thug it out and make their money hand over fist.
  16. Unfortunately, obscenely expensive stealthy platforms are the must have items that, economic crisis or not, air forces are selling their souls to purchase right now. For the prices AFs are paying for capable stealth platforms these days, the stealth should work like Romulan cloaking devices.
  17. Talk about leap of faith worthy of Martin Luther! How's you not fly that into the drink? lol.
  18. Probably the most disappointing thing about the flypast is that the Vulcan XH558 was scheduled to lead the flypast similarly to the following video. Unfortunately, it's two port engines were damaged before take off, Monday week ago and sadly she's been grounded since. That would have been just as epic a fly by as this in 2K2. :(
  19. There was talk of Arnie doing a sequel to Total Recall as far back as 2k5, but it was in development hell for a long time before it was scrapped.
  20. That act by Mrs Clarke was in many ways just as short sighted as the 2010 SDSR. I can kind of understand part of the reasoning, I mean your Kahus were in a similar situation to our Pigs: They would never be deployed overseas during any kind of active service outside or training or co-operative events... so what's the point of having an asset that won't be used? You know, amalgamating our respective AFs would benefit both of our countries. You guys would get your teeth back, we would have access to a wealth of NZDF assets (facilities, staff, etc), we could offset some maintenance to NZ with it's cheaper dollar, neither side would suffer from the loss of skills sets to the private sectors or off shore, etc. It's just a shame our military planners here suffer from a myopic short sightedness almost as bad as that of the Cameron Government's in the UK. I wouldn't be surprised to see the RAF and FAA still looking skeletal come 2018/19. When Treasury and planners take money away from defence in a popular or pandering gesture, it's very difficult to get said money back. Once it's been diverted to someone else's pockets, they won't let you take it back. So, on that basis, I wouldn't be surprised seeing the UK lean a lot more on it's close allies or even actually go through with this proposition of interoperability between the Royal and French navies, irrespective of whether either is using the B or C model of the F-35. Signing up to other air services, the USMC, etc.
  21. That's a shame. I used to love Primal Scream, especially around the XTRMNTR era.
  22. Not just Americans. An Israeli RF-4E crew were awarded a kill when an interceptor (I think it was either Iraqi or Syrian) crashed due to target fixation. The US has known about Russians operating with VPAF, NVA et al, for a long time. Col. Vadim Petrovich Shchbakov has been recognised as a Soviet Ace who flew Mig-21s for the VPAF as a pilot instructor against US forces in Vietnam.
  23. I remember reading a proposal to offer them the A-10A around that time too.
