They're subject to the same maritime naval conventions as everyone else. The reports here were saying that at one point the Fitzgerald was at real risk of sinking. That must have been a hell of an impact! I guess we can only wait an see what the investigation uncovers.

I thought the -35B transforming to a -35C during the cat-launch was pretty impressive too. I think HMAS Canberra was supposed to be at this for it's inaugural participation at RIMPAC until major issues with their engines saw her and Adelaide returned to drydock for the forseeable future. Would have been good to see them at RIMPAC. :(

Last time I heard about a Top Gun sequel, everyone seemed to have a hard-on for making it a story based around UAVs/UCAVs. I hope to christ it's not the case with this one! Stealth was bad enough-- that film lost something like $60 million! I really hope they don't CGI the shit out of it, something studios are all too ready to do with films these days. I hate watching movies where I get popped out of the immersion by really crappy CGI with no understanding of physics. [/irritableBastardRant]
