Two questions....
MigBuster replied to a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Heres a very quick write up I put on SImHQ: Its not a real time loop - and does not have the diversity and amount of objects active on that massive scale - but it is a persistant world and has a lot of details the developer only recently let on - things like warehouses and parked aircraft get counted as supply and A/C loss etc. So for example on the first mission in one campaign my airbase got bombed and I think the tower was never repaired during the whole campaign. Each campaign squadron has a set of details to give you some idea - the tank units have details like this too: [AirUnit002] AircraftType=F-4E Squadron=7TFS ForceID=1 Nation=USAF RetireDate=8/1972 DefaultTexture=USAFCamo1 BaseArea=Takhli RTAFB BaseMoveChance=0 RandomChance=100 MaxAircraft=16 StartAircraft=16 MaxPilots=16 StartPilots=16 Experience=100 Morale=100 Supply=50 and you will sometimes get upgraded to a later jet, or get later weapons as the years roll on due to supply and game level. The persistant world is more obvious in shorter campaigns like you find in the more historical SF2: Israel - and things like in 1967 your first missions will be classed as surprise attacks. You will get moved around to different airbases - especially if one gets over run - 3 of the games have opposing tank battles and these days you will often fly over other tank battles going on. The basic in game map shows the changing demarcation line depending on how well each others ground forces are doing - this is linked to a degree to how well you do in your missions - but not always - if you are doing A-A you might shoot down the required number of jets - but the friendly CAS flight was shot down and the enemy tanks won anyway (Or the friendly unit was too weak). Sometimes you get replacement pilots - sometimes you really need them - other times not so much - depends on era and a/c you use. So to summarise - the missions may have the same roles as single missions (CAS/intercept/CAP etc) but you are fighting a continuous war. SF2:Vietnam does not have the large scale ground battles in the stock campaign - so in that sense it is more like a set of single missions - even though you still have a persistent world the missions are too far apart to notice - in that you have limited and aimless objectives apart from to stay alive - kinda like the real thing I guess. You can of course modify the campaigns to add units different A/c etc etc if you so wish. To add to that - each ground unit and squadron has a supply level (percentage) that varies on what is destroyed or how well things are going - so for example taking out a warehouse is supposed to reduce the supply level - but how it is reduced and if this affects all air and ground units I dont know myself. Also yes and yes to airbases getting captured and ground units moving - the ground units only normally move if they win a battle, or if their supply etc is high enough then they sometimes advance to an area not defended by opposing ground units. -

I thought the MiG-35 was the competitor in that with the Zhuk-AE - Oh whatever the above is then - probably just some useless figures on a pretty pink piece of paper!! -

Could have been worse - they could have lumped CFTs onto it Should be a cool bird with the updates Found another list here - whould have thought they would have got the Zhuk-AE in there -
Thats a truly great video - thanks.

"Realism doesn't sell" - I assume that's the film makers universal motto! Reminds me of Pearl Harbour.

Remarketing old products with flashier effects is often all the music and the film industry dish out to us year after year...... What are peoples expectations despite what TK has said over the past year? - would people be happy if SF2 and FE2 were ditched at the expense of this DX10 only game with vast content? I think as GR viper states on TW that other features will be added over time as always - good things come to those that wait surely.........

SF2 Training Mission #08
MigBuster replied to a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
cool -
yeah - just create a new folder in the location shown called Terrains - then the GermanyCE folder with all the files and folders from the download sits in that - for example: C:\Users\Steve\Saved Games\ThirdWire\StrikeFighters2 Europe\Terrains\GermanyCE C:\Users\Steve\Saved Games\ThirdWire\StrikeFighters2 Europe\Terrains\GermanyCE\Fall C:\Users\Steve\Saved Games\ThirdWire\StrikeFighters2 Europe\Terrains\GermanyCE\HardWinter etc

Now that truly is terrible news for music fans everywhere

Well ive had a quick look at the IPS boards but nothing obvious is springing out - if I wasnt doing this course I could spend some time on it. Its probably best speaking to Erik - or the main server admin? - can he clarify if we can stick in javascript somewhere (or if its even supported) - If not are there any other tools that come with the server software to control embedded video a bit better? I could have a look as admin - but I would just be hacking it at the mo. Do you get a javascript pop up window?

Yes upping the jamming level of the pod does increase the protection - but you dont really need this SF2V - because the SAMs are far less effective than they were in WOV - which is a good compromise really - as jamming support flights and Chaff bombers etc are not available by default. If you wait for packages - or other flights you can sometimes hide behind them :) Yes some of the jamming pods are supposed to interfere with your own systems - I did a basic write up here: http://combatace.com/topic/57249-ecm-jammers-in-sf2-for-sf2-kb/ The game is a bit to simplistic to create the many SAM operator tactics and modifications they went through to try and beat the many versions of jammer pods used (also not in the game by default).

Carrier lights at night?
MigBuster replied to Adger's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
The stock Carrier has never had lights from day 1 - they need to be part of the model as I understand this. Options: Press Esc when you get near the carrier. There are a few add on carriers with lights - but none to directly replace the Essex class and Kitty Hawk class (That I know of) Bit embarrassing for 3rd wire really - they need to get this sorted in the upcoming F-14 game! -
They are cut off as you say - well they appear to be cut off - some of the writing is cut off - would get a screen shot - but it takes 10 mins to download everytime I try to look at it. No the zooming effect looks to me now how the page is embedded - we have no control it looks like on aspect ratio, zoom etc - so that probably needs to be done server side. Depending on the software Dave had he could probably convert the mp4 or rip the DVD to other formats. When the video does go up on Youtube - it should be fine because it will run in the browser in flash player (assuming it just converts it by default??) - which is pretty much the defacto video player for browsers. I was just downloading the file from here http://combatace.com/uploads/gallery/album_591/gallery_230_591_169322648.mp4 but its got a 20minute download time - so im off to bed.
