What's the Status of the Series - Cause I Dearly Miss my IAF Jets.
MigBuster replied to Arrow's topic in General Discussion
SF2 is stuck at around 1982 officially regarding time lines out side of what has been modded.........so the 4th gen F-14A / F-15A / F-16A all have pretty decent radar sets to that year...although you need SF2NA for the F-14A avionics (IIRC) How long is it since DCS:A-10?............. is that 6/7 years since all the excitement of this and that will happen etc?........ED look to be happy to go it slow alongside their commercial flight sim business and cater for a specialist niche...............SF2 was a niche within a niche when desktop/Laptop & Windows was the only game in town! A full working Desert Storm with all objects as we had in SF2 years back?........ETA = 2029 -
What's the Status of the Series - Cause I Dearly Miss my IAF Jets.
MigBuster replied to Arrow's topic in General Discussion
Short answer = Yes Here is some recent comments from Facebook Third Wire We're working on more PC games, but they won't be anything like the SF2 series, they'll be based on the more successful mobile games. We wish we could continue to work on SF2, but not enough people bought the last two SF2 titles for that, so we are trying something different. If you are one of the few people who bought every one of our PC titles, we thank you for your support, we really do appreciate you, and we couldn't have done it for so long without you. Unfortunately, there just wasn't enough of you out there for us to continue. If you want SF2 to continue, it's not us that you need to try to convince, it's the other players. We have too many players who only buy one title and expect us to continue to update it forever. Even if only half the people who own one of our games (either SF1 or SF2 titles) have bought SF2NA when it came out, that would have been more than enough to fund the next SF2 title. But unfortunately, that didn't happen, only a small tiny fraction of our users returned to buy SF2NA. If you're still on SF1 series, that means you haven't bought our last 8 titles (at least!). If you only have SF2 Europe, then you haven't bought our last 4 titles. It should be no surprise that we're not making more games like the ones you haven't been buying, and making something else instead -------------------- Third Wire There is a good market for flight sim, and plenty of other people have bought (and enjoyed) our games over the years. SF1 series was successful enough for us to do SF2, and SF2 series was successful enough for 2 expansions, countless DLCs, and SF2 NA. All of them have been successful, except the last two (SF2 Exp2 and SF2 NA). That's how we know the series has exhausted itself, and we know we've taken the series as far as we could. If you didn't buy them because you didn't like how our games worked, then it shouldn't matter to you if we had continued the series or not. But if you didn't buy them because they were too similar, then that pretty much says it all. Any new flight sim we do would be very similar to ones we already have – same game, different planes. Atlantic Fleet was an iOS game, so if you could enjoy that on PC, then maybe you could enjoy our mobile games on PC too ;) And you do know Cold Water is a completely different game in different genre than Atlantic Fleet (real-time vs turn-based), right? That's basically what we're doing, instead of doing the same thing again, we're doing something different. -------------------- Sadly PR and advertising were never introduced to Thirdwires business plans it seems............... Actually I will add..........I think Thirdwire can be commended by changing with the times, (as many other companies have failed to do and gone under)......and seizing on the opportunity of the mainstream move to mobile PC platforms (iOS, Android etc). From their point of view their customer base and exposure went through the roof, the tech support issues and hassle were reduced to pretty much nothing (to what they were) and have a new business model with a successful revenue stream. The comments above regarding SF2 however are poor and TK does himself more justice when he shuts up.........you could add to the above: "If you didn't buy SF2 because you had never heard of it" or "If you didn't buy SF2 because the limited visibility upgrades gave no incentive to do so!" Problems he might have had to answer himself had the technology not changed at that point. -

Hey there! First of all, apologies that we haven't been in touch for a while. We are hard at it with development and will be releasing another patch shortly. Among other things, we've recently been working with satellite imagery. Here's yesterdays Dev Sit Rep entry: 'Textures for the Gulf and Yuma are now signed off :) Working on the Mach Loop/Wales textures today together with Hawaii as that should be relatively straight forward. It’s looking great, adding to the diversity and realism of the environment. All of this terrain/scenery development is necessary for finalising the missions and campaign that we know you are all eager to get your hands on :)' You can follow the Dev Sit Rep here - we are now making almost daily updates. Internet radio interview If you haven't already, check out this pod cast on Xtended radio, Europes premier aerospace internet radio programme. 'We are joined by Ed Scio from Sim155 to talk about Combat Air Patrol 2. It is a fascinating discussion on how flight simulators are designed and built' The whole thing is worth a listen, however if you're short of time the CAP2 part starts 30-40 mins in. Store page translations We asked for your help in the Steam community and were delighted with the response, we now have our store page translated into 18 languages. However we still need the following translations: Japanese, Arabic, Danish, Finnish, Norwegian Thai, Traditional Chinese and Ukrainian. If you would like to help please email f.scio@sim155.com - those that complete the translation will get a shout out in the CAP2 credits once we have completed the list. Stay updated We don't email you with every minor development so be sure to follow us on twitter and/or facebook for more frequent news. As always, many thanks for your ongoing support! Kind Regards Sim155 Ltd Early Access: Creating the game you want 'this is exactly the sort of sim I want to play and there's not been enough of them in recent years. I have feeling this will turn out cracking' 'I'm still having fun with it despite any early bugs which are being worked on and the Devs are closely working with the community feedback' 'in my opinion the Devs are the most active devs I've come across on steam addressing game issues and listening to those who are currently testing the game' 'from flying the Harrier what little I have SIM155 is going to knock it out of the park' 'I am really starting to like it after flying around a bit, can't wait to see how it will develop' 'showing a lot of promise. Buy it if you want to support development'

To me it makes sense if you look at the target audience............like Businesses, schools don't need kids pissing around with non secure OSs and would prefer the kids just did their work without having to pay for IT guys to constantly remove viruses etc that smug kids have put on. It probably wont be perfect but will definitely stop a lot of problems. Businesses have to do a similar thing to stop most of their employees wasting time & their money downloading free spyware with their free games etc. Classic Windows 10 Home and pro likely wont change that much in coming years especially as non computer literates who just use Farcebook mostly move to Tablets & phones - the windows geeks will be using it.........and if you like combat flight sims like me you are stuck with Windows for now anyway (forever?). It still dominates the desktop & Laptop scene and the Surface is easily on par / better than anything Apple ever put out and is one of the very few laptop replacements (even though it is essentially a laptop with the keyboard on it ) Windows has a massive foothold in business, and a lot are tied in especially where massive investment went into unique corporate windows applications that you cannot simply replace without X millions and years....so it is going to be dominating there for decades. The Apple version of Windows (MacOSX) still doesn't have that much more take up on the desktop / laptop as Linux does hilariously, Android / iOS are only mobile OS with Apps mostly geared to small screens and mobile use - they are not fit for typical work usage, in future they might release desktop versions with keyboard /mouse (or whatever) support sure - will see what happens but don't be surprised if Windows is still there.

May be if interest if only to avoid getting stuck with the apps in the Windows store Note - Window Home/Pro is going no where - this is just so you don't get stuck with this version at home for whatever reason. Windows 10 S is Microsoft's latest edition of Windows 10, but it's different in one particular way: It's locked to the Windows Store. Windows 10 S is Microsoft's newest edition of Windows 10, with one specific change over previous, "normal" editions of Windows 10. This new edition of Windows 10 is locked to the Windows Store for all your apps and games, meaning if you want to install apps on Windows 10 S, you can only do so if said apps are available in the Store to begin with. This new edition of Windows 10 is actually aimed primarily at schools and the education market. It's more secure, since the ability to run app from outside the Store isn't possible. Because of this, you should hopefully see a minor battery life enhancement too, as users won't be able to go and download battery intensive Win32 apps unless they're in the Store. Yes, that does mean Windows 10 S can run your traditional Win32 programs as well as more modern UWP apps. Windows 10 S isn't a "lite" version of Windows 10. It's a full, standard version of Windows with the only difference being the fact that in order to install apps, they must come from the Windows Store. http://www.windowscentral.com/windows-10-s https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/windows-10-s

Dan Hampton is back to discuss a wide range of issues. Last time we talked, our conversation ranged from women in the cockpit to employing his beloved F-16 to kill the enemy. This time around we cover everything from the USAF's plan to keep a portion of its F-16s flying until 2048, to the service's pilot retention woes, to America's strategy in Iraq. As usual, "Two Dogs" has strong views, and is unafraid to share them. http://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/9455/usafs-deadliest-f-16-pilot-talks-f-15-retirement-syria-and-pilot-shortage

Think it has mostly always been this way regarding the regular sales - the Steam arrangement appears to be different.

How to properly use dumb A2G munitions
MigBuster replied to PhantomPhan's topic in Military and General Aviation
Good to see Andy Bush's article still available and in use. Half the challenge is learning manual dive bombing although I don't remember CCIP being in the SF series until maybe WOE or later? cant remember...........so many a campaign were achieved manually in the A-4/F-100 etc. If you ever go on to DCS some of the Jets there (F-5E/MiG-21bis ) include some techniques in their training missions...........and they also include some systems that help (manual reticule position)......although this doesn't make it any easier.......and it often comes down to something like dropping at a certain speed / altitude / dive angle / aim point with any wind correction. But whatever just means a lot of practise...and ideally max settings campaign in the F-100A at least :) -
Don't see why the F-16s could not replace the older F-15Cs and still retain the other missions.......plus if the cost is lower.....but it is all up in the air anyway..and either way its just patching holes until they are both replaced. https://www.flightglobal.com/news/articles/usaf-pushes-back-on-f-15-retirement-435721/ The prospect of an F-15C/D fleet retirement cropped up during a House Armed Services Committee hearing last week, when members of Congress asked USAF leadership whether the Boeing aircraft could be replaced with Lockheed Martin F-16s. While the director of the Air National Guard entertained that concept as a possibility, the air force’s public affairs quickly pushed back on the idea, saying it was “pre-decisional.”
