  1. It allows you to attached planar mapped sections of faces to each other while automatically scaling them right.
  2. Try and retain the look of the original tailerons for the fins, ala Megafortress.
  3. Btw, why're you all using LithUnwrap? I stopped using that one years ago after figuring out that post max7, all you need is unwrap uvw modifier and the stitch function.
  4. While Fastcargo has some things right, he's totally missing that when unwrapping, you want to keep any texture seams to a minimum - this usually means confining them to the least visible places: Notice here how with the sole exception of the top faces of the fuselage, all "seams" have been confined to 90dgr edges or parts that are not likely to be seen; ie inward-turned faces. Therefore, like a lot of other 3rd party maps here, Fastcargos technique gives him one set of completely unnecessary seams simply because he didn't bother connecting the sides to the top and only keeping the seam to the sharp corner on the bottom where it belongs. Not saying this is always possible, but it is easier with some shapes than others, especially boxy ones like modern fighters.
  5. Out of curiosity, how'd it look if you stuck a flanker-style IRST onto the nose infront of the cockpit?
  6. Fighter Pilot and JET.
  7. And it ain't going to be funded. If you ask me, all the better.
  8. Your main gear doors are inaccurate. They look like a single piece but are in fact two-piece with the top part attached to the main strut and the lower part to the shock strut from what I made of the photos I could find. Aside from that yours is probably more accurate than mine.
  9. Jaguar? Or something like Hellcat, not bothering with any "II"'s which just sound lame anyway.
  10. http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?showtopic=23309
  11. Gunport looks a little small.
  12. I have a good way done in the voodoo tut you know.
  13. From one thing to another - since I'm gonna have to build a pit for it, which layout would be more probable? An A-12ish one (Think tandem F-22 panels) or Superbug one (Pilot different from WSO)?
  14. Yeah I followed the AFX concepts for it, which btw clearly shows what looks like an IRST or TV camera like on the F-14.
  15. Basically rebuilt most of this since last time.
  16. If you design your edgeflow to take into account the rounding off of wingtips from the beginning you generally won't run into this problem. You could try the chamfer function though.
  17. No, if we stick to tradition it should be named the "Retaliator".
  18. Known issues: ADI doesn't quite work as advertised atm. Something to do with the pivot axis. Canopy frame looks like ass. I think I'll have to pull out the old HL trick of distorting the model to compensate for FOV. Textures could be much better, again especially on the canopy frame. Some stuff is not textured at all, there are no lights or counters yet, and some instruments are non-working.
  19. Well, what I usually do is copy the black lines to a new layer beneath the black and color them white. Then I go over with a small opacity eraser brush to slightly break up both lines, and finally play around with with layer blend properties to get just the kind of panel line definition I want. Usually it pays off to slightly exaggerate certain details, much like how you'd paint a plastic model.
