Environmental Mods

  1. This mod is an extension of my original cirrus tests from 2006 and produces multiple large layers of flat clouds at varying high altitudes, scattered across a map, and that can move with the wind defined in mission file. There are two methods of cirrus creation:

    (1) A terrain target object that generates cirrus effects. This was derived from the stock power plant generator and the smokestack effect. This may be more suitable for the campaigns. Once installed in a terrain, it will be used automatically in all missions.

    (2) A moving ship, with beginning and final waypoints, that generates cirrus effects during ship motion. This was derived from the stock Tanker ship and the ship movement effect. This method is useful in hand made missions, and I hope to extend this to large scale moving weather systems.

The cirrus are most brilliant with the Siberian Sun mod where the deep blue sky offers great contrast with the white ice crystal cirrus, and the large sunglare causes the cirrus to shine bright around the sun.

I will explore this in detail, probably on page 7 of this ThirdWire thread ~> http://bbs.thirdwire.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=4964

....this is version 1.0 until I discover one of my standard mistakes in installation or content....

  2. This is purely experimental, rather deep, and is a first attempt at roughly modelling a moving warm front.

This project is off the deep end and assumes success in setting up the cirrus mod here ~> http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?autoc...p;showfile=6567

The different types of clouds almost cover a standard size 1000km map. I try to have the clouds evolve to the storm area in the following manner...

    Cirrus in clear skies.
    Cirrocumulus in clear skies.
    Cirrostratus filling out the sky.
    High altostratus covering the sky.
    Low altostratus covering the sky.
Low large puffy dark clouds in the storm area (I call it "stratus" but its not really stratus).
Rapid clearing behind the front (assume fast cold front).

For "stratus" and altostratus, I use the Smoke3 and Smoke4 tga files which are NOT in the ThirdWire sims. They can be found in older Bunyap Weapons packs.

I hopefully will be discussing ideas about this at the ThirdWire thread here, probably starting page 7...

    for SFP1/WoE/WoV/WoI

    version 1.0 20.07.2008

This is a "tree mod" to Madagascar terrain, known as AE (Africa, East). Adds trees, bushes, grass and other little stuff known to populate Earth's surface.

  4. INSTALLATION:

Assuming you have WoE (ie., "Wings over Europe"), the process is simple...just extract and place the folder named "Terrain" into the your Wings Over Europe Folder, and you're ready to go.

In all other titles, extract the watereffect.fx and the waternormaldot3 into the Terrain subdirectory of your choice.

In Strike Fighters, that would be "Desert". In Wings over Vietnam, it would be "VietnamSEA. In WoI, it's "IsraelME".

This effect is optimized for use with Brain32's WoE terrain using Cellisnsky's widesky 1.0 mod.

*NOTE*: I cannot guarantee that it will work to everybody's satisfaction with other ThirdWire titles, terrain sets, or environment mods.

KNOWN ISSUES: Cards that lack FULL DX9.0C support, such as ATI Radeon 9x -X1K series and the nVidia GeforceFX(5) series, may experience pixelation issues when close to the "water's" surface. The only workaround is to either turn off the shaders, or to break down and purchase a card that supports DX9.0C.

This effect is all but unusable in Windows Vista, due to its poor DX9 support.

The .FX files contained in the zip archive based on ThirdWire's original's, and re-compiled & debugged using ATI's RenderMonkey.

  5. This tiny mod adds heavy snowfall conditions when flying in inclement weather.

Fits best the snow covered terrains (MajorLee's DBS, ANW winter etc.)

Very hard to find your airfield flying in this weather!

  6. New Forest and Trees modification for Wings Over Europe GermanyCE original terain

    created by Jan Tuma ("Honza")

    Version 1.0 - 20/11/2008

Based on excelent "Forests and farms modification v 1.01" by CA_Stary

  7. This is a set of rescaled trees for Jan Tuma's tree set mod for Brian32 GermanyCE repainted tiles. You must have Brian32's repainted tiles V1.0 for GermanyCE terrain to use this mod.

I have reduced the tree size to a more realistic size to help facilitate sense of speed and scale.

    INSTALLATION:

Install Brian32's repainted GermanyCE tiles. Copy all the files in this package to your WOE\TERRAIN\GERMANYCE folder. Over write when asked.

    That's it. Go fly.

    Legal:

Permission to rerelease Jan's tress was given to me by Jan. I thank him for his allowing me to release this mod to the community. All terms of use from Jan's mod apply to this mod as this was originally his work. I just merely rescaled / added more trees. For freeware use only.

  8. Who's the greatest idiot on Combat Ace...?

    Yep, it's me.

Here are the missing trees for Seasoned WOE: Winter edition.

  9. Seasoned WOE scaled up trees.

As some (including me) prefer the bigger trees, here they are. See the screenshot for size comparision.

As before, 3 levels of complexity.

Pick the version you want, unpack to your GermanyCE folder, overwrite.
