Wrench Posted August 3 Posted August 3 oh, damn!!! Well, hopefully all your stuff is backed up, and safe!! Quote
VonBeerhofen Posted August 3 Posted August 3 Could this have something to do with Microsoft's move to impose Win 11 on the entire world? Obviously the install will try to communicate with Microsoft to verify certain things. If possible try to reinstall without an active internet connection, no cables router/modem. Good luck, hope you get it working! VonBeerhofen Quote
+daddyairplanes Posted August 3 Posted August 3 oof hopefully youre back up and running soon more hopefully, the stuff on the drives wasnt zonked along with the system Quote

+FLOGGER23 Posted August 4 Posted August 4 Hey Volker, please check the RAM modules, if you have more than one, install one at the time. Possibly a RAM Issue. 1 Quote
Gunrunner Posted August 5 Posted August 5 Or the cooling... old dried up thermal interface, dying fan or pump, the CPU heats up fast, throttles, therefore performs far under specs creating performance and installation issues. Would also explains why it might start fine and then degrade. Quote
VonBeerhofen Posted August 5 Posted August 5 I see some similarities with a fried video card. When that happened to me with an fx5500, my machine became totally unpredictable and no indication that the card was at fault. It took me about 4 weeks searching the web before I started to believe. In the mean time I had tried several reinstalls of the OS and all drivers. A cheap used Gforce2 send to me by mail from Australia kept my Dimension 8100 going till today. Hey it's 25 years old now, 🥳 VonBeerhofen 1 Quote
jeanba Posted August 6 Posted August 6 It's been around 6 months since my computer is dead, that's why I do not spam this forum anymore with pictures and "like" :) I am replaying paper wargames such as Elusive Victory, Downtown or Air Strike : https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/3391706/solo-aar-surfinbird 1 Quote

+ravenclaw_007 Posted September 13 Author Posted September 13 (edited) i got my computer working , i had to change the mainboard and the cpu windows 7 is installed and all updates installed ( was surprised that i got them automatically from microsoft ) i had some problem with the graphicscard because windows did not recognize it and i was unable to install the Nvidia driver , somehow i got it solved and now everything is running fine the only problem is that i got most of my reference material , pictures , flight manuals and the SF installation files on a M.2 SSD and my Windows 7 installation is not showing the drive , the bios is showing the drive only windows is saying no , on my previouse windows 7 installation the M.2 SSD was no problem and since i use the same Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit installation disk and istalled all updates i dont understand why i have that problem now i installed all drivers for the mainboard just in case somebody is asking anybody an idea how i can fix this ???? would it help if i use a external usb docking station for the M.2 SSD , at least to get the data ???? +daddyairplanes Posted September 13 Posted September 13 the dock for the M2 was gonna be my suggestion. they arent too expensive on eBay, i got one for around $15 to read the card from my kids junked laptop but wow on the win7...... was on Win 10 since it was beta, and using Win11 for about 4 years now 1 Quote

If there are no specific hardware errors signaled (you do have a sound at your pc for POST check , right ?) by POST sounds, I would make a visual control (motherboard OUT of the system, in front of you) of the motherboard and change the source. Statistically, in order, motherboard, RAM modules, power source is the culprit in main cases. It won't hurt to check or replace the windows kit you are installing it of. I would go further and check , too the power outlet, too. If you don't have a power outlet earth surge fuse (but I'm sure you do, do you?) accumulated electrostatic charges can make nasty surprises to your pc. Let me know your progress and I will assist further. Unfortunately, when it comes to PCs, one has to "disect" every damn piece of it and trust "no one" if you know what I mean ;). "That is the way!" LOL PS - In very rarely cases BIOS can die as a electronic piece of equipment. With a dead BIOS nothing works there. Edited September 17 by UllyB 1 Quote
+ravenclaw_007 Posted September 17 Author Posted September 17 (edited) Thanks everything is working now i replaced the motherboard and the CPU and installed windows 7 to a new 1TB SSD luckily i had enough spare parts for my old computer , still got 1 motherboard and 2 CPU´s and one set of RAM´s , maybe have to look to get 1 more from that motherboard and a CPU i´m using Gigabyte GA-Z79X-UD5H motherboard Intel I7-4790K CPU G.Skill DDR3 1600mhz 32Gb ( 4x8GB ) RAM WD Blue 1TB SSD Gigabyte Geforce RTX 3060 OC 12Gb graphic card my biggest surprise was that i got all Win 7 updates from Microsoft automatically , no need for endless searching just a lot of time to install almost 300 updates so much for no windows 7 support , by the way i just got the latest security update from this month ohhh..... and i got the driver for my Intel 660P 512 GB M.2 SSD so i have windows 7 64 bit with my library on that M.2 SSD working now Edited September 17 by ravenclaw_007 2 Quote
