Stick Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 Ah man...I remember the first movie I watched of his was the Sting. All the aunties I knew had a crush on him some point of their lives. Quote
+pcpilot Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 "I'm not mellower, I'm not less angry, I'm not less self-critical, I'm not less tenacious. Maybe the best part is that your liver can't handle those beers at noon anymore," he said. Two of my favorite flicks, Cool Hand Luke and The Sting. Quote

+whiteknight06604 Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 I lived in the next town over from him(he lived in Weston CT I was in Westport.I met him quite a few times over the years and have to say I never once saw the man sober. That being said he was an excellent actor and did do a lot of charity work. +Dave Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 Man he was a great actor. One of the greats. Quote
+NeverEnough Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 Also a very talented auto racer. He used to enter SCCA regional races as P. Newman, to avoid being treated like a "movie star". He won his first SCCA national championship driving a Triumph TR6, and then went on to multiple national SCCA championships driving for Datsun (now Nissan) in 510 sedans and 240Z's. Lots of people at the top levels of auto racing felt that he could have been a world class driving talent, if he hadn't waited until most other competitive drivers were considering retirement before he started his racing career. He was a very unique individual. We are all diminished... Quote

+Fates Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 Acting..... His contributions to the Racing Community are incredible. And lets not forget Salad Dressing. Quote
ONETINSOLDIER Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 Ya know, all our lives we wonder about that step we all will take alone, and how far the spirit travels on the journey, and if there really is a "heaven",and that thought chills me to the bone. Now, he knows the great unknown. R.I.P. Quote
Fubar512 Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 And lets not forget Salad Dressing. Or, spaghetti sauce.... Quote

MiGMasher Posted September 28, 2008 Posted September 28, 2008 Sad:( He did have a great run though. A great man and a great talent! Everytime we lose one of these greats I feel the world is becoming more alien to me for some reason. I started feeling like this when Deborah Kerr died last year (her b'day Sept 30 coming up as well as the 1st anniversary of her death), and then we lost Chuck Heston as well, and others... RIP! Quote
Muesli Posted September 29, 2008 Posted September 29, 2008 Damn! It's the actor my mom would trade my dad for (in his best years). Another icon passed away. Quote
