Enhanced SF2: Israel Terrain by CA_Stary


SF2:Israel terrain update

This modification contains full tileset of new satellite-based 1024x1024 textures, together with optional treemod and experimental (buggy engine?) heightmaps created to enhance the look of the default SF2:Israel terrain, IsraelME.

 

Designed for SF2:Israel by Thirdwire, either stand-alone or merged installation.

Made for and tested in SF2 merged, Nov. 2009-B and March 2010 patches.

 

"Wings Over Israel" compatibility not granted, but highly possible.

 

Remember, it's initial release, updates are highly possible in the future.

I did follow the installation instructions, but my SF2I keep using the original IsraelME terrain, ignoring the new mod.

I'm using Windows 7 machine X64.

Put all the files in your israelme file. It will use those. Make sure you don't have a folder in a folder.

I've found the solution myself, copying the new IsraelME folder into the core directory of SF2I, instead of into the mod directory.

Should be located in Strike fighters 2 Israel\terrains along side with the original IsraelME.cat file.

Thats worked for me, don't sure about others.

Guyran you have stand-alone SF2:I or merged? I haven't tried on stand-alone install, but the procedure should be the same.

It's a stand-alone SF2:I.

Previously I had merged install, but after the mar 2010 patch multibug problem, I've reinstalled SF2I as a stand alone with Feb 2010 update, without deleting the merged install. Maybe the coexistence of both versions on my disk is the cause of this behavior.

My bad as I happily applied Mar2010 update to my merged install without knowledge of this patch issues :blink: but I was away from forums and unaware :dntknw::this:

 

The cities will take some time I think, I could just use my older city tods from Green Hell2 or Europe mods, but the placement would be way off (I managed to find the exact same places used for city textures as Thirdwire -it's Port Said downtown and industrials btw).

Seems good on afghanistan as well.

Didnt think the Stock terrain could be replaced it was already pretty good - but you have Surpassed yourself with this one :good:

 

Its about 4 million times better than a certain payware effort I got about 3 years back!

Trees are a little flickering thoguh. Following some indications in previous posts from Stary I fixed them with this entry for [AlphaObjectTextureMaterial]this on my Card ATI 4570 with catalyst 10.3

I tried it with afghanistan. Works really fine, except it doesn't feel liek afghanistan. Could be that my eyes are now used to WOI's texture I was using for it. Could be just my opinion.

Just flew a campaign mission through SF2:E, and this mighty fine terrain installed.

 

It looks wunnerful!

 

Now I am going to sprinkle in the trees, then the heightmap info. 1 step at a time, I always say.

 

But even without these items, it looks very, very good.

Spectre_USA, remember heightmaps are somehow buggy, which is covered in readme; seems to be either terrain mesh detail option in IsraelME_data.ini or flightengine.ini related, trying to adjust the settings to fix it -mountains with heightmaps looks simply better :drinks:

i need help guys i copied the ini from canadair and paste it on the israelme_data when in the game b4 the loading finish it crashes can u guys help me plsss and tell me exactly how u made it work on series one thanx

I also got a CTD at 80% when I added the trees to my WOI install (both with Canadair's data.ini and the one that comes with the download). Without the trees (just the tiles) it loads fine.

 

If I get a chance tonight, I'll dig into it a little more to see what's going on...

 

...otherwise maybe this is my excuse to get SF2I... :grin:
