Great stuff Ian! Are you a crew chief or a weapons loader?

 

Dave - The RAF does things completely differently to the US which is always confusing when we cross-train. On Fast Jets we don't have Crew Chiefs but we do on the Big jets (AWAC's/Transport etc). Generally we have 3 trades, Heavies (engines & airframes), Lights (avionics & electrical) & Weapons. I'm a CPL with 16 years experience as an Avionics engineer (which means I fix anything that uses electrics/electronics from Radar & Radios to Weapons & AC/DC Power Generation and everything inbetween) but my rank of CPL (your E4) is actually the technical equivalent of an E6 and a Pay equivalent of an E8 (hence the confusion) although due to the lack of specialisation (the trades used to be split up into smaller specialities) we can find ourselves to be the "jack of all trades, master of none" at times.
