+EricJ Posted January 30, 2011 Posted January 30, 2011 (edited) He added pilots names to the CAG bird and the shark toothed drop tanks and recolored the "Miss Molly" blue. Not sure what's exact as most of my references were black lettered. Though it is common for CAGs to sometimes "edit" color schemes so its not so much putting our skins under surgery more or less you're doing another variation. But is very nice work XRAY! +Julhelm Posted January 30, 2011 Posted January 30, 2011 Well, it really isn't 'made up' per se...it is an actual proposal for a VTOL fighter by Convair in the early 70s: http://combatace.com/topic/28855-convair-200a-vstol/ There isn't much on the internet about it, you can Google "Convair 200A sea control" to get some textual descriptions of its purpose and ultimate outcome. The better references are in books such as "American Secret Projects". The answer is...probably. Would it have flown to specifications? Difficult to say. If you look closely, it resembles the Viggen in general layout, and would have been of the same to slightly later vintage. Now, it is a VTOL aircraft, so that would have added to the complexity, but considering VTOLs (including those with lift fan engines) already existed by this point, the technology curve would not have been insurmountable. The actual effectiveness would have been a different story, and since I don't think it ever got to mockup stage, it is hard to say what would have been like in service. FC Keep in mind my model depicts the Model 201 CTOL derivative and would certainly benefit from losing the heavy lift engines and associated VTO equipment.
jdbecks Posted January 30, 2011 Posted January 30, 2011 My first screenshot taken in the game, and my fav plane of al time :D You gotta love the Tornado :D
the test pilot Posted January 30, 2011 Posted January 30, 2011 (edited) Keep in mind my model depicts the Model 201 CTOL derivative and would certainly benefit from losing the heavy lift engines and associated VTO equipment. So you dropped work on the original VTOL model? However, the VTOL seemed much like a western yak-38, Lift Fans could lead to weight problems. For the Sea Control Ship wasn't more practical recycle escort carriers concept, or simply make small STOBAR Carriers? (Not an expert, and i don't claim to be. Just putting two cents in hoping someone else puts what needed to make a full buck.) Oh, by the way, something not for sensible people. and a second sun rose from the earth... +EricJ Posted January 30, 2011 Posted January 30, 2011 Been getting a few gun kills lately (though really it's just the QF-4E and a payback of a Tomcat a couple days ago) and an afternoon view from the office.

+EricJ Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 It's a skin I';m working on for myself, matter of fact getting more stuff on it. Suffice to say I don't like the SEA skin that much so I'm messing with Sundowner's templates. Here's a shot I took before heading north to Hanoi.
+daddyairplanes Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 looks cool, though do you really think the navy would admit the mistake in no gun? at least the air force could say they were correcting a naval screwup.

+Dave Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 Thanks Eric. The Huey has given me an all new canvas to skin with. I think Diego, Pasko and Crab_02 would approve.
