Indeed they are.

A few glitches, though, with random buildings in the countryside instead of huts and trees overlapping buildings but nothing gamebreaking.

A question : what are the files I am supposed to put into the vietnam 75 and the South Vietnam terrains? What are the files I am supposed to discard?

Thanks!

Flickering is caused by the newer NVidia drivers. Roll back to 353.62 and the flickering is gone.

How do I make this terrain to be the default terrain in Vietnam air and ground expansion pack 2.1?

Hello there Stary,

Can´t wait to have this mod working! :clapping:Which so far has been a "no" for me, unfortunately... I´ve downloaded your mod without any error report, so the files must be ok. I have the latest version of SF2 (July 2013) merged install (all scenarios and expansion packs). I´ve copied over the contents of your "Vietnam SEA" folder to my "C:\Users\Holy Ghost Rider\Saved Games\ThirdWire\StrikeFighters2" folder. After loading (single mission) I keep seeing the standard map and tyles. I´ve tried to do he same to my "C:\Users\Holy Ghost Rider\Saved Games\ThirdWire\StrikeFighters2 Vietnam" folder but still no cigar. Anything I might be doing wrong, for sure but I don´t know what. Could you possibly help me with this one? Thanks in advance!

It's been a long time, but after unzipping, is there a terrain folder called "VeitnamSEA" ???

that should go into the /name-of-games-mod-folder/Terrains

if not, can you post a screenshot of the mod folder, with the terrain folder open/listed? Like my example below

Thank you so much for this Wrench, I knew I was doing something wrong! I didn’t create this folder and structured like you did, what I did was copying the mod files from inside the downloaded mod folder directly to the “StrikeFighters2 Vietnam” folder! So I need create a folder “Terrains” inside the “StrikeFighters2 Vietnam” folder AND copy the whole VietnamSEA into it. Ok, I’m going to try this now! Thank you once again! :good:

Ok guys, problem solved!  Funny how things can turn out, after reading from all the previous similar situations I´ve understood that the "VietnamSEA" mod folder had to go my "C:\Users\Holy Ghost Rider\Saved Games\ThirdWire\StrikeFighters2 Vietnam\Terrain" folder, but that didn´t work with my installation. In fact, no other map mod would work that way! So as a last ditch effort I´ve moved those terrain mod folders to my "C:\Users\Holy Ghost Rider\Saved Games\ThirdWire\StrikeFighters2\Terrains" folder. In other words, ALL the terrain mods ONLY work FROM the "Terrains" folder of the "StrikeFighters2" main folder, well at least for me... I guess this happens because I have all the scenarios and expansions from ThirdWire? :pardon: Once again, thank you so much for the help!  Man, did Strike Fighters 2 got a new lease of life with these mods, playing it all over again with better sounds, more immersive raddio chatter and maps! :pilot:

well thats probably because the two are perhaps not 100% compatible, what i mean is South Vietnam might need certain files that Green Hell overwrites to work......i mean i manage to get green hell working with Yankee Air Pirate but i had to remove the ini and none image files to get it to work without messing up the terrain or terrain targets

you are going to have to be more specific before anyone can help you troubleshoot the problem, otherwise i cant think of any reason why it shouldn't ...as far as i am aware they are the same terrain with one more focused on ground war

Thank you tonyspike from the comment. Well I installed in the south vietnam same way as to vietnamsea folder by overwriting all. When I start southvietnam in mission there is some tiles still showing that old green hell 2.0 brighter tiles and many trees show as some water buffaloes and other show as some type of old buddhist tempel :D. I am running the latest 2014 update of air @ ground expansion pack. Maybe I just have to figure out what I over write or do somebody have some fix or idea what im doing wrong?

yes thats the same issue i had when importing it to Yankee Air Pirate, i solved it by just importing the JPEG, BMP & TGA files ...i didnt move any of the INI or media files .....im assuming that green hell changes the terrain slightly and ovverwrites things that South Vietnam needs

An error I made working on the city districts drew my attention to the COSTCT tile which only shows a staggering 6 times in the entire EAW world. I'm pretty sure there are hundreds of coastal towns and seaside resorts in Europe, one of which is the one I live in. So I feel I have a choice to make, add more to the EAW coasts or free the tile to be turned into a new city tile to add more diversity to the limited set in use. Personally I think that a village or city tile one coastal tile away from shore will work just as well, after all the entire coast and beach are merely app. 1 or 2 KM deep. The question though is what is a better use in a 64 small tileset?
Furthermore with a universal tile border there is also a much better use for the river city tiles as they can now also function outside the cities and add more diversity, as was done with other nature's in EAWPRO. Besides that industries predominantly happen on river banks, so it adds to realism too. Vice versa there's also no reason not to use other bridges inside cities like London when borders are uniform, which had 5 at the time of the blitz. EAWPRO already uses dozens of instances of the unused stock rail bridge and a much higher number of any other bridge. They're even used as piers on coastal tiles too, making fun targets to destroy!
Here's Londen Thames with added bridges, of course the fake crossing can be removed now too.

or bringing order to the chaos. I've applied a previously described algorithm of grouping tiles on the Italian cities which forms them more into what one might call 'districts', i.e. more organized then what was shown in the previous thread. The fractal algorithm can create many different layouts using various parameters, one of which is determined by looking at an entire region and the neighboring tiles surrounding a particular tile. It then randomizes smaller groups it creates and adds an occasional seed between them so the group isn't just echoing a certain tile. In the below calculation groups are created from the outside inward, taking the city's shape into account, after all the surrounding tiles influence the outcome of the calculation. As part of the fun 1/2 of the tile map uses an inverted calculation as can be seen in the last 3 pictures which is Munich, hence it's border and center differs from the  other pictures shown. The other 5 are London.

      Unpacking and installation:
      ===========================
      !!! IMPORTANT !!!
!!! I recommend using this pack for a standalone-Vietnam-War MOD-folder, as planes.inis are changed accordingly
!!! That means, that no exportusers are in userlist.ini
      Backup your A-4B. A-4B_65, A-4C, A-4C_65, A-4E, A-4E_65, A-4E_67 and A-4F planefolders, as .inis will be overwritten
      1. Create a temporary folder, copy all 3 zip-files into that folder and unpack them into this folder (overwrite is ok)
Info: If you do NOT want to include the changed data.inis to your installation, just go to all planes-folders in the temporary folder (Objects/Aircraft/A-4B, etc.) and delete all ini.files in each planes-folder.
      2. open "Put_Contents_In_Your_MOD_Folder" from the temporary folder and copy the contents you want to your Vietnam-MOD-folder
      3. if asked to overwrite, say 'yes'
      4. Thats it!
