+pcpilot 181 Posted November 26, 2013 Just got this from the Civilian Marksmanship Program in Alabama. Springfield Armory Receiver serial number dates to Fab. 1945. SA Bolt serial # to Jan. 1945. It also has a SA barrel that is dated 3/53. The bore is excellent. Stock is brand new CMP with their cartouche on the side. Had it cleaned and re-inspected. They also test fired it a second time. CMP included a CMP hardcase, a certificate of authenticity, a chamber flag, an enbloc clip, DVD from the Garand Collectors Association. Ive got a couple hundred rounds of Greek surplus ammo on the way also. Cant wait to get out and fire this one. This is the flagship of my little collection now. :)

KJakker 901 Posted November 26, 2013 My grandfather carried an M1 Garand with the 80th Infantry Division through France, Luxembourg, Belgium, Germany, and Austria. I own a reproduction M1 Garand and the first week I owed it I was holding it and feeling the weight of it in my hand it hit me emotionally thinking about him having to carry one through all of that. I wish I had an original.
mdatelmi 124 Posted November 26, 2013 I really envy you ... in a good way! A beatiful piece of history! I shoot sometimes, at the local range, with rechambered M1 (.308) but in the past I shot with a Korea war M1 in .30-06 (owned by a range instructor).
+CrazyhorseB34 937 Posted November 26, 2013 (edited) Awesome! I got a Springfield made M-1 with a six digit serial number that dates to May 42. I can knock the nutz off a gnat with this thing at 500. My fave weapon of all time and my home defense tool. I also have a WW2 bayonet, grenade launcher, and dummy rifle grenade dated JUN 44 for it. Congratulations on your ownership of what Gen. Patton called, "the world's greatest battle implement." Edited November 26, 2013 by CrazyhorseB34

I was good in Marine boot camp with my M16 getting expert. Now Id like to see how I do out to 500 yards. I just got new eyeballs, ie; cataract surgery on both eyes so I can see as well now as when I was a kid. So how about some pics of your baby? Or as they say on the CMP forums, show us some M1 porn. I wish I had an original. Yeah, I know what you mean. You think of all the guys who carried this 70 years ago and what they went thru. Seems like everytime I look at these rifles in my collection it comes to mind. And everytime I think of it, I thank God for men who had the guts to face violence for our country's freedom. Read "With the old breed" by EB Sledge; it'll send chills down your spine. As for your grandfather...o7
+pcpilot 181 Posted November 26, 2013 what else you have on your collection?? !#! :) I have a M48 Yugoslav 8MM mauser Ill post some pics of. It dates around 1950 and is in excellent condition. There is also a war trophy Japanese sword bayonet and a bayonet for the mauser. That's it for my war surplus. macelena 1,070 Posted November 26, 2013 To think i could have been issued a Mauser and see my messed up leg...Back to topic, that Garand is a beauty. It is creepy to talk that way about firearms, but true.

+Jug 99 Posted November 27, 2013 I have a Winchester model 12 pump with U.S. Army stamped on the side of it. It was a trench warfare gun used during WWI. I had to add a polychoke to make it legal in barrel length. Had a good friend make the pump hand piece and stock from burled hardwood and it is a real beauty. Love to welcome those with criminal intent into my home with it. Have not had any takers, but hope springs eternal................
+Brain32 265 Posted November 27, 2013 Just got this from the Civilian Marksmanship Program in Alabama. Darn I wish we had something like that here, or even just plain "shooting range clubs", they don't even have to let me take the firearm home, just to let me shoot...I'd pay for it for God's sake... :(
