Any chance of a "generic" airfield made from the Büchel model ? One [or two :biggrin: ] with RAF style open pens or HAS would be fantastic, it's the trees that make it for me.......all those bases with the nearest tree a mile away is so unnatural.

I agree with Sundowner, tress make everything look different, they really make a airbase shine with his own light. They are sure a nightmare to place too.

I just attempted to fly a CAP mission in an F-4M in the 1979 campaign and got another CTD part way through the mission.  I switched back to my old terrain folder and was able to play through several missions.

I wish I knew where to suggest to look for the cause of the CTD, but I have no idea...

Hi, i've experienced some CTDs too. According to windows crash report, the cause seems to be the TerrainEngine.dll module. On my SF2 install, CTDs happen during campaign. I don't remember experiencing one in single mission. Any hints to solve this? I don't want to turn back to old Germany terrain, this one is so amazing to fly.

Wow. I have to admit that I was never big on flying on the CE terrain. I'm typically a USN/USMC flyer and Europe didn't have any carrier action for me. But this terrain is just beautiful! As for accuracy, I'll have to take the words of folks in the know. I have never had the fortune of going to Europe, but this terrain sure looks good! Blasting over it at 200 feet in a Tornado bound to drop some bridges is quite the pleasure! This will be on my frequent flight list from now on.

Sorry there won't be copies of Büchel on the map. Owner restrictions.

About the CTDs. There are about 300 downloads so far and a handfull guys with CTDs.

Well i don't think that there is a bug on the map. The posted CTDs spreads to widely and don't have anything in common.

There is only one thing that came into my mind when reading about the troubles and that is RAM or graphic RAM limits.

But i guess that we are currently scratching the edge of what is possible with the SF engine on todays computers.

I need to rethink carefully about the next update steps.

Maybe the engine is not capable of what we dreaming about.

I will continue making the airfields with a proper layout (meaning also including Taxiway Guidance Signs and trees), but will first cover the german airfields. When these are done, i will also make a sort of generic base layout for USAF, RAF and others.... :cool:

THis all remember my sweet childish dreams at the 80's, blasting the cold war era with tornados, phamtons, harriers, vipers, eagles and mirages! the atmosphere is so tense and so real... I only wish a more accurate AAA and SAM network...

Despite this, SF2 is become  the sim of my ever dreams! Thanks TK, Rendes and Crew and all those impressive moders for making all this possible!

I do have one minor issue to report: The trees are waaaaaay out of scale compared to ground objects.  They look as if they're 70-80 meters tall!

Fubar,

Are all trees that big or on a specific tile only?

They look normal on my terrain. Did you make a clean install of the mod?

Posted

All trees on all tiles appear over-sized, and yes, this is a clean install in its own terrain folder. Just fly a ground support mission and view the ground units (targets).

You need to reduce tree heights by 70-75% to get them proportionately correct.

Hm, did you ever used Starys hires terrain tiles before?

I havn't made any changes to the trees.

Rends i found this in my hard disk, could be interesting for update the highway stripsdata:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhCAAKAIABAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAEALAAAAAAIAAoAAAISTIBmoLy9XDqyxktfkuo05AQFADs= FS_03_2010.pdf

Hans,

Thx for the file.

Well i have no plans to add more airfields to the terrain yet. I don't want to increase the number of people having problems playing this mod because of to much stuff on it.

And for everyone running into CTDs please post your PC specs too.

I still think that the problems is RAM or graphic RAM related.

Post your OS version too please.

If possible post a screenshot of the area. But i have to mention that the current CTDs doesn't have anything in common object related.

And the terrainengine.dll fault message sounds too generic for me to make any sense but i must admit that i'm far of beeing a SF guru.

So my help to fix any of your problems is very limited if i can't reproduce the problem on my system.

My specs:

Intel i5 2400 3.10 GHz

Radeon HD 7870 2GB DDR5

2 X OCZ 120GB SSD

Windows 7 Enterprise

Game crashes when flying any Mirage F1 around Bremerhaven. (Kjakker was able to reproduce the error at least once)

When using the external view I have no problems flying towards Bremenhaven.

And one crash flying the stock A-7D after  CTRL + N. (exact location unknown)

Hans,

Wonder what happened if you fly with your Mirage over more ground object target areas like Hamburg or Leuna Werke?

What you also can do is open the target.ini and disable the entries you find at the Bremerhaven target areas.

What happened if you rename the seasons folder in the terrain folder? Guess you should be able to fly over a black untextured terrain but never tested it.

Hi Rends,

Sorry fot the late reply. I was busy in real life.

I removed all targets from TargetArea023 Bremerhaven.

And i only left this in the target.ini:

[TargetArea023]
Name=Bremerhaven
Position=365715.06,730556.00
Radius=16971
ActiveDate=01/01/0001
Location=1
Alignment=FRIENDLY

But the game still crashed.

Next I'll fly around Hamburg and Leuna Werke.
