A few airbase thoughts:

#1. How does someone program them into a terrain?  I'm sure the answer is somewhere that can be hyperlinked but....

#2. How about an airbase with a lot of hangars that are more like tents - open back & front, just provide shade and shelter for the maintenance staff?

#3. Be nice if multiple hangars could be targeted.  But that's me!

You REALLLLLLY don't want to go there...

that's terraforming, and is not for the faint of heart or those easily discouraged. And has an unbelievably steep learning curve. (and not a Window 10 machine)

Windows 10 is okay though; TK's TerrainEditor works just fine.

Since it's just a brainstorming session for now, I was always fascinated by the RAF in Malta, and the location would be great for Southern Med flying... Even though the RAF has vacated the airfields, Malta still hosts  a serious airshow, and the airport could handle military traffic in a "crisis".

I like the fact the base has a documented history, and the link page has a lot of detail, it makes it easy to work.

that's good to know. there are some folks around here that seem to think differently, or just can't get it working, not matter what's said

Any progress on those "underground" bases, idea?

It's one of the candidates, and if I don't make a full air base, I will make undergrounds hangars.

Good news then!

This is just a fast demonstration of my idea of Hidden mountain hangars.  there are three hangars and it will be connected by taxiway to the main runway.  of cores, I can make the hangar in the mountain deeper and there will be a concrete tunnel to the exit with hard doors.

my old idea of underground 3d base...silos for nuke ICBM`s

I like this as a J-DAM and B-2 target... very much.

But also needed are surface-to-ship missile targets like one or both of these please:

  • K-300P Bastion-P / SS-C-5 Stooge
  • Bal/Bal-E - Coastal (SSC-6 Sennight) missile complex with Kh-35/Kh-35E missiles

Thanks.  One of these was in "Hunter Killer" and I really think they'd make great targets as well as weapons...

I like it! Will look better with trees or vegetation on that mountain. But shouldnt' that mountain be bigger?

Yes, you are correct but this is just to show you what I was thinking of and to understand if this is what you have in mine.  this model is just a test only.

I bet it could be placed up against more traditional terrain mountains too Stratos . textured to blend in.

Correct.
