Yeah I mean I'm not saying baking does a bad job, but I think baked shadows are just pointless in my opinion. I think the DCS L-39 pulled it off okay, and I merely changed the opacity to reduce the effect, and frankly worked well with my skins. But the FSX Super Hornet skins it was too pronounced, and people still liked what I did back then.

I'm confused by some of this, what version/year are you trying to create?  Here is a SP-4 version, which I believe would be quite similar.

1st one, just after commission . 1961.

This is SPN-6 on Essex .

Try researching special ops... You can get enough non-classified information to make a best guess, but in the end you'll get it wrong somewhere and have to take artistic liberties.
