  1. I've found that 00 buck is more effective on drones.......
  2. I think the only way they've been able to "detect" it is by the gravitational effect on other bodies. So not really seen yet - just calculated to be there. It will be interesting to fly a probe out there to actually look at it. Some decades in the future.......
  3. In Cheyenne Mountain we had CNN up on a screen constantly. We would get an alert, process the warning, call the conferences and pass the data and look angles to the Patriot batteries. Then watch on CNN live as the Patriots engaged. Quite the sequence. I came on shift the morning after the SCUD hit the barracks. I know the warnings were passed but a problem at the Patriot caused it to disengage. I don't recall the details now. That was, I think, the only attack that was not engaged. All attacks were detected and warnings passed. On CNN - we weren't the only ones who watched CNN. There was a not-so-funny cartoon that showed a TV with CNN on it and titled "Iraqi SCUD Targeting System"
  4. just remember not to use yellow snow..........................

  15. Absolutely spot on!! The Turks are playing their own game which is NOT the same as anyone else's.
  16. It was a monumental accomplishment. NORAD has a standard plan for the emergency control of all air traffic in North America. we always practiced in during exercises and never thought it would ever be done short of a nuclear war threat. On that day, two Canadian AF officers executed the plan and grounded everything in North America in very short order. And every tactical fighter squadron in both countries checked in with armed aircraft available for assignment. All in very short order. The work the ATC systems did in both countries is one of those unsung hero accomplishments. Thousands of aircraft on the ground in short order and in Canada, especially, all of the air traffic headed for the US was put into Canadian airports and thousands of passengers put up by the local population. That we are the closest of allies was demonstrated that day beyond any measure.
  17. does pretty well against Klaxian ships.......
  18. yea. I remember all too well. I was in NORAD J3 then and recalled to The Mountain later. rough times
  19. flying close does a lot of stuff, able to mask radar, provide mutual support, etc. also need that skill for air refueling. but I was not a tactical jet guy so I'll stop there.
  20. what I gathered from the video was that they went to LAX precisely because it is a challenging flight for students. sorta - if you can survive this....... waaaaaay back when I was a student NFO one of my training flights was pretty similar. Cross country to a civilian field and back through a MONSTER DAMN THUNDERSTORM
  21. ISIS has released a video they claim that shows the missile shoot down. It looks like they've spliced together a lot of other footage, hard to tell. RIP
