STRIKE FIGHTERS PROJECT:ENEMY ENGAGED
Wrench replied to Canadair's topic in Mission/Campaign Building Discussion
Just a little reminder, expecially when it come with getting permissions for other's work.... http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?showtopic=21405 If you plan on doing anything with the Dev A-Team's craft, PLEASE, check with Capun on EVERYTHING you want to mod/change/upload, etc. Keep him and Charles in the loop for what you wish to do and release. I don't want to throw a wet blanket on anything, just giving a little nudge in the right direction. We've had complaints before about un-permissioned mods, so this is a "CYA" post, so to speak. I'm speaking not just as a CA moderator, but a Dev A-Team member too. OTH, anthing that improves our gaming is welcome!!! (especially Julheim's very cool What Ifs....) and thanks for listening! The rudder decals were done by Heck, they're one decal with differing numbers, but have all 3 lines. (look in the AdA Hawk 75) I just renumbered and reused them. The wing insingia's are painted on, the fuse stripe/roundel is a decal due to 'strecthing'. Tail/rudder stripes were the easiest Colors I got from simmerspaintshop, just matched the closest FS numbers, and added them to photoshop's pallete. I also have an extra layer in all my templates; it's a 10% gray that I call 'fading'. Staring at 100% (non transparent) covering everything (excepting some little items like wheels, tires, radiator grills, etc), then I just increase the transparancy till the colors look 'faded'. I usually take it down to about 10% left. There 'should' be one in the Havoc template I sent you...not sure though! Gotta really thank Heck for his work...I hope he see this! Couldn't have finished the original without his assistance! Or this one for that matter!!! Wrench kevin stein

I am truely honored to be named 'Infidel of the Week'!!! Do I get like a certificate, or plaque or something??? Cookie??? I'm also truely sorry that your parents chose to use a Craftsman product. While good and sturdy, providing many years of service in the fixing and repair of (whatever), I personally would have chosen a Snap-On unit. Much nicer chrome finsh (easier to clean, if you catch my drift), fits better in the hand, and the salesperson comes to YOU, so you don't have to make the trip to the local Sears or OSH stores. "spare the wrench, and spoil the child" .... hm....that seems to work! I chose the name because "Fixer of Vehicular Transport Systems" was just too damn long!!! Wrench kevin stein

No probs guys! It'll be nice to have another target.... Wadda mean, you can't post when you sleeping??? Most of the time I do!!! and yes, decals - especially the maunfacture thereof - is a real PIA!!! There's a couple of B-29 mods here that I did (ww2 PTO and WW2 ETO: 46) that have a humongous amount of decals. The WW2: 46 ETO version is the ENTIRE 91 BG...something like 400 decals for the one skin set....serial numbers, squadron code/individual letters, nose art. The PTO set runs about 300 +/- a few. ....I truely feel your pain. Wrench kevin stein

This is where mine stands now; using decals 'borrowed' from Heck Mitchell's AdA Hawks that he did for that package... It's supposed to be 'representative', no particular squadron. You'll note the painted on nose stripes, while not perfect, do work. You'll also notice the shaved down nose guns...there are no bulges. Wolf has allowed Capun to re-build the lod slightly, and this really helped in skin mapping. Its actually done, I just need to get my ass in gear and write up a readme....just lazy I guess! That's what I need - color schemes (but easy ones!!!). Anything you got, would be a BIG help!!! Spend 2 1/2+ hours last night/this morning downloading the Detail and Scale for the F-89, and while a great resource, it didn't have much on color and markings. I'd love to do the J as a "Happy Hooligans" version...but that might be above my skill level. Tring to find something easy...the squadron at McChord's marking look relatively simple...riiiiight!!!! Making new templates from the original skim bmps ain't that hard...figuring out the exact mapping, especially on the tip tanks is!! Of course, there's always decals....that's how I fixed the flight lead/squadron commander/whatever stripe for the "num000'' bird. As to the loadouts, all my research shows most DIDN'T have the tip rps, but I think I'll leave them one anyway. Wrench kevin stein -
Don't I wish I was that clever 4 years ago!!!! No, that was somebody else; it's supposed to represent the Rita. Ghostrider883 has an Indian AF mod of it here at CA, that carries "booms" in the cargo bay Wrench kevin stein

Jarhead: I haven't tested that, as most birds seem to already have it in some fashion. Perhaps not animated in the nose or tail wheels, but definately in the data inis Wrench kevin stein

Another one of my projects, never completed, that I found yesturday in the 'full objects' install.... 2 Genie, 4 Falcon, and the D wing-tip rocket pods. (since we only have the D lods to play with....) It'll need full reskinning, with new decals, markings and etc. And before anyone says anything, yes, I DO know the Genie was only mounted on the outboard stations, but the model only has a pylon on the inner stations. Cockpit, data ini, avionics mods are nearly done (even has a landinglight!!). Stuck with using the F-4B pit, for the twin-engine anunciator panels (it's livable). Busy finishing off the upgrade for the C, and gathering data for the J. I know I won't finish it off before we leave Tuesday for vacation (be gone all week...so, fellas, try not the burn the place down while I'm gone, ok??) Hope to have the C out tommorrow or Monday. Yes, I'm that bored.... Wrench kevin stein

Your pathway is all wrong. You calling for subfolders of subfolders.... Look at my example...keep it simple, keep the names short. There is a max character length (ie: too long a name). We've had this problem before (Mossie, original Tornado, a few others) FileFormat should read something like this (I'm using a generic Fishbed) MiG-21PFM/Czech2/D/CzNum Rename all your number decals -- and I KNOW that's a real PIA -- but keep everything as short as possible. the pathway should read, as shown above (and below) aircraftfoldername/skinfoldername/decalsfolder/decalname which translates to the example I've just shown. And pleas, do download and read the decal tut that HrntFxr posted the link for...it'll answer a buttload of questions. Wrench kevin stein

Ah! I stand corrected on the min number needed -- which I usually exceed by a great deal!! Why make just one squadron, when you can make the whole wing???? Only a few more hours of mind-numbing work... which reminds me...I gotta finish those buzz numbers for the new Scorpion skin before we leave on vacation Tuesday morning. Vegas, here we come!!! Gonna get me a big-ass plate of BBQ at Red Rock!!!! Wrench kevin stein

AND is has to be set in the aircraft's data ini, hopefully with an animated node for the nose / tail gear for steering plus, youll also see the pointers for max steering speed, rolling radius, etc. Theoretically, you can get away without actually having the nose or tail gear move. As long as the inputs are there. Wrench kevin stein

Did you try setting them to "DecalLevel=2" Level 2 is for individual aircraft numbers Level 1 is squadon insignia Level 0 is national insigina Might have to have a quick read on the 'decal tutorial'; it should be here someplace. If not, I'll try and get you a copy if you needs it As stated above, for serial numbers or buzz numbers or the like (including nose art)...all decals use a 3 digit code. You can name them anything you want; I use "FNum" for Fuse Numbers; TNum for tail, SNum for serials, etc NArt for, well, nose art FNum000 FNum001 FNum002 and etc. I think the minmum number is 12, so I always make like 24+ As long as the pathway remains the same ie: [Decal010] MeshName=FuselageTail DecalLevel=2 DecalFacing=RIGHT FilenameFormat=F-89c/57thFIS/D/FNum Position=-6.50,0.60 Rotation=0.0 Scale=1.0 DecalMaxLOD=3 aircraftfoldername/skinfoldername/decalsfolder/decalname That should do ya!! View File F-80 ShootingStar, 416th FG (post 1947) (Pasko) F-80 Shooting Star, 416th FG, circa post-1947 Skin for SF, WoV & WoE For Pasko's F-80 Shootingstar This is a re-vamp of my WW2: 46 PTO P-80 skin into something closer to the post-USAF formation time frame (ie: after October 1947) This is skin represents aircraft from the 416th FG, the first operational unit to field the Lockheed 'Shooting Star' (albeit the A model, not the C we have - but, what the hay, it works!!). In saying 'revamped', means that I created new templates from the original skin that came with the aircraft upon it's release some years ago, so all glory for the original goes the original skinner. There are redrawn panel and rivet lines. I've tried to recreate the aircraft nose arts as close as possible to those used by the 416th, and if you have the WW2: 46 PTO version, you'll probably recognize some of them. There ARE historically correct ones; 6 or 7 I think, but for the most part some of the others are just there because I hate to waste good decals I've also created the "buzz numbers" so prevelant in the post-war period, and into the Korea War, so this skin set will fit nicely into a "Cold War Gone Hot: 1948" scenario, or even a Korean War one. BE ADVISED -- there may be nudity in some of the nose art decals, which is surely against post-war regs ... If you find beautiful, scantily clad women offensive; see a doctor quickly, as there's probably something very, very wrong with you!!! (excepting our female flyers, of course -- sorry, no beefcake for you! Well, actually, just one) PLEASE!!! read the enclosed readme for full, detailed install instructions - the notes included will make it much easier for you to get this up and running. Happy Landings! View File F-94B Starfire, Generic USAF (Pasko) F-94B "Starfire" Generic USAF Skin for SF, WoV & WoE A "plain or garden variety" natural metal skin for Pasko's F-94B 'Starfire'. I created it from new templates, based on both the F-80 and F-94 skins (there are several identical bmps between them). It represents no actual squadron, but is closest to the 68th FIS. Hence, the generic "USAF" tagline. This would be a usefull skin for a Korean-era aircraft, or for any time frame in the early 1950s. New serial and buzz number decals were created as well, which are based off aircraft serial numbers. The numbers are all actual serials and buzz nums, as issued by the USAF New damage tga's are provided, for that 'shot up bullet holes' look, if you let the enemy get close enough to shoot you! A new Loading Screen is also provided. It's a nice color picture I found on the net PLEASE read the enclose readme for full install instructions and general nonsense. Enjoy! I just used whatever was in Wolf's original data ini; all the mathematical calculatory stuff is beyond me!! Adding/adjusting harpoints is easy...figuring flight paramaters...wheee!!! as the the distance, it's in KM...all the measurements in the game are metric (well, in particular, in releating to aircraft size, HP, fuel in liters, etc
-
You can have an AG gunsight...just reference it in the cockpit ini. Take a look at the Post-War Mustang I just released; it has the K-14 aerial gunsight, and a 'ladder' sight for bombing. Rockets, however, go back to the standard sight. You might need to adjust the 'rocketboresightangle' in the data ini of the aircraft in question. Wrench kevin stein

I'd think that most, if not all, the stock 3rdW birds use pretty much the same canopy tga...I think it's stored in the objects cat Wrench kevin stein
