The Mods Thread: A listing of 'What's Available"
Wrench replied to Southernap's topic in New to Strike Fighters - Start Here
Just a little update to try to bring it to current levels: Since we seem to have lost the original thread someplace on the Internet super highway about what aircraft were WIP's and what needed to be filed in. I felt like starting this here. If any of you modders are working on something please feel free to add what you are working one to this list. These are the following websites to try and locate an aircraft for download: CombatAce Column 5 Avsim file library. Note this one will require a free login to download from their libraries Armour Dave's SFP1 site Dev A-Team - large number of WW2 and early jet aircraft available Registration Required Check Six - a French language site that had a large number of aircraft and modding tools available. for Thirdwire games Deuces Mod's- primarily a site dedicated to updating the landscape and effects of Thidwire games. Many Links broken???? Pasko's Mostly MiG's page - Has a large number of Soviet aircraft available for download. Many links broken!! Check here at CA/C5 Wrench's Toolbox. Lots of WW2/Post WW2 Mods, Som Modern & Post-Modern, Skins and Hangar/Loading Screens Raz Bam's aircraft - Has built the A-1E and A-1H/J for SFP/WOV. Also this is payware. Third Wire productions - home site of SFP1/WOV/WOE/FE These are just some of the various websites out there to download extra aircraft/skins/and other mods for your enjoyment. Also note that a large number of these websites replicate themselves. I mean that what might be here at CombatAce for the F-14A might also be hosted at Check-six or at Column 5. So if one site is down try one of the other ones you might be able to find the same aircraft. Please note too that if I left any one's website off this list, I am truly sorry. Please PM me and I will add you to the list. Now on to the other big thing the WIP list. Note: this is in NO way complete. Just information that I have gathered from other forums and sites. If you have any information about aircraft that are being worked on please feel free to PM me with your information I am picking this up from some one else's work on the WIP/missing listing so there are a large number of holes. The most current list will always be on the last page of this thread This is broken down by category of nation of origin and then role. I have also tried to arrange these in order of apperance by time line (ie the F-4 should will be before the F-15). When it says "Stock in..." means that there is a stock aircraft in the original game. If it has "AI only" means that the AI is the only one with access to it. "3rd Party Released" means that even though there is a stock verison there is also a third party verision as well. I'd say it looks damn good... The clock hands are too high, but that's the only real glitch. I did change the Min/MaxYaw position to 150, so you don't see the 'hole' where the fuselage would be with it turned off. Still need to re-label the EGT to 'Cyl Head'. As to the scope boot, I say we leave it, but give the end user the option to remove it if they want. We all know it's not 100% accurate, but it IS usable (until the MF comes out with theirs). We make due with what we have! Wrench kevin stein

Just some stuff nearing completion, thought I'd share it with the 2 dozen-odd people that are still flying it in the SF series... George, 343 Kokutai: Some I-16 Rata experiments...playing with fabric coverings (still!!) modified Tomahawk pit for I-16 (using some of Lexx's move ideas.. unfortunately, wingshield frame can't be corrected to proper framing...but hey, all the insturments work!) (and there's some 'drift' in the ring-bead sight when your view is not fully centered ... same as the P-40B/C, but normally it's fine, and the aimpoint is correct) Nate skins, updates of my orignal 'natural metal', with better markings Generic green.. Also switched over the pit to AD's Oscar version; much nicer and more accurate sight (ok, the standard ring-bead again) All get new redrawn panel, rivets (interperative, of course) weathering, stains, dirt mud and etc. Just have to write up the readmes, install instructions, and finsh off a few other tweeks. The 343 skin gave me fits, as there's like 3 or 4 different numbering schemes...I just went with the easiest. I've another George skin, heavilly weathered, and need to do more research as to other squadrons that used them...and have easy decals to make. Oh, btw, any skinners out there have any hints as to HOW to do the peeled paint better for the IJN/IJAAF???? Wrench kevin stein

Cool! Thanks Lexx, I'll test this and see what it looks like! Wrench kevin stein

Also, to be making sure you're using the latest version (it's the one that came with the wepons pak) What I do, is I add the text section to the weapons data ini FIRST, then use the editor to 'finalize' it. This compiles the new weaponsdata.dat file, which is waht the game acutally reads from. kukulino: only 8??? You lightweight!!! 17 here....(includes FE though)

Well, they ARE very early in the development stages...lacking finialized FMs, skins...I did find a nice sound effect for the engines though. Unfortunately, they'e also lo-priority. We'll get back to them eventually I did them in silouhette (sp?) cause there are some folks that wouldn't know a Dora from a shmora, and to hide the material coloring Wrench kevin stein ps: I'm SOOO looking forward to getting the finalized uvmaps to try and skin these...JG301 w/red white stripes! oi!!!

Pasko's had a U2 available for several years now...a quick search should find it. as to a couple of the others... As to the original questions, I can't think of any aircraft off hand, but I'd like to see the Indo/Pak terrain. The entire planeset already exists, as do most of the ground objects. Another would me more toward Soviet Central Asia/Siberia and maybe the North Cape area/Northern Europe (ala EF2K) Wrench kevin stein

Edward's Pacific Theatre maps, availabe here probably and possibly at AvSim as well Solomons china bruma phillipines okinawa (including parts of korea & the home islands) darwin (north Oz, plus parts of NEI) I may be forgetting one somewhere.... Wolf's WW2 Planes Pak is here, which includes his original Oscar, needed for this mod. Also advised to get AD Japanese planes, as you'll need his Zeke pit. Both paks are rather large, but worth the d/l time. Belive me!!! Wrench kevin stein

View File Ki-43IIb "Oscar" Mod Ki-43IIb Hayabusa "Oscar" For SF/WoV/WoE WW2: PTO installs This is a modification of Wolf257's Ki-43 into the later version, the IIb as used by the IJAAF. This is a semi- complete aircraft mod, creating a new version for use in your World War 2: PTO installs ONLY!! I say 'semi-complete', because pursuant to Wolf's wishes, the aircraft LOD file is NOT included (you'll have to transfer it over from the exisiting Ki-43 --make sure it's Wolf's Ki-43, NOT ArmourDaves!!. Almost everything else is included; all the inis, an new skin, hangar screen and my damage tgas as well. The cockpit itself is NOT included, as you'll be using the one from AD's A6M5 Zero. The skin represents 204 Sentai, in the Home Defense role circa 1944-to the end of the war. I've redrawn all the panel lines, added my 'interperative' rivet lines (meaning no claims to accuracy are made!), simulated fabric control surfaces and dirtied it up some. As this is a natural metal skin, it has no worn-off green camo. Individual aircraft numbers are 'best guess' based on a few profiles. Therefore, no accuracy is claimed for those as well. PLEASE read the enclosed readme for fully detailed, step-by-step install instructions, plus commentaries and general explanitory notes. Enjoy! couldn't tell ya about the thers, but DS is awaiting new tiling (hopefully with rivers, which means quadruple checking of target placements, then adding bridges where needed) Irain/Irag needs terrain flattening for moved/added airfields. I'd like to correct the area around Tehran, adding the sea, but that's above my pay grade (and skill level!) One major airfield is still misplaced, and need moving to correct position (the one closest to Tehran) The campaing will need total rebuilding, as all the correct weapons have been created for both sides; all aircraft fully updated to latest standards. Like they say, we're probably waiting on the next patch....see what changes to make more changes to adjust for the last set of changes that changed what was originaly not changed Wrench kevin stein

It's not different than what I did to fix the Starfighter tanks. (or to create the 50 gal RAF drop tanks on the Tomahawk, or the 104 recce pod..or...or....) Give me some time, and I'll see what I can do. Good thing you got pics posted for me to work with!! Wrench kevin stein

Yes, indeed! I could sure use the proper shape for my Fire Cans....been using one of the other box van for the DS mod Wrench kevin stein

Using a hex editor, open the 800 tank lod, and search 'bmp'. You'll find it used the MiG-11 Recce pod's bmp, so some more hex editing and renaming and repaint will be in order Wrench kevin stein

It's set as a 'noise jammer'... the values are how much 'noise' it generates. I'd set it something like 25-30, along the llines of the QRC-160. I'm just guessing, mind you. Wrench kevin stein

That sound about right...in fact, I'm going to tweek the avioncs to give a 1 mile range. The A1A radar used on these early nightfighter was pretty crappy. I think even the early British AI versions were better. Max search range should be around 8-10 nm Max!!!, 'track' should be 1-3 miles or so. Of course, these (F4U-2) were replaced almost fully by ~early 1945 with F6F-5Ns using the AN/APS-4 or -6 radars that were much better. As to the grid, I'm lazy and just went with what was avialable. Probably, given the time frame of usage, a black no-grid would most likely be apporiate. Unless they use a 'fan' type display V shaped...haven't found anything to confirm or deny. Wrench kevin stein as to BB's statement, I like squids better than eels...much tastier with a little soy sauce. Fast seared on a girll, then scraffed down!

It is. Check the loadout fixes thread, 2nd or third post. NO stock aircraft comes with any ini already extracted...the main ini of EVERY stock aircraft ALWAYS points it back to the objects cat. That's how the engine is designed.... 1st) look in folder for needed 'bits' or 2nd) look to objectcat for needed bits. That's why you'll also notice there are NO cockpit parts in the /cockpit folders, excepting the occasional gunsight tga. The only excpetion are skins, with the majority of the 'legacy' decals (Skyhawk, Phantom, Fresco, Fishbed etc) in the objects cat, and the newer "WoE" decals (A10, Hunter, etc) in the /objects/aircraft/decals folder. Hope that helps somewhat. Wrench kevin stein

I've been using the Su-7 tank, not the right size, but workable. Even after all this time, there are still some error in the WepPak. But we're slowly working on it!! Nice find on the launch rail, kukulino!!! Thinking more along the llines of a 'hidden' pod, you'll have to use the shape of something pre-existing...mayb my faked-up camera pod for the Starfighter (which makes another appearence in the F-110A Wraith.) You just need to hide the lod -inside- the existing camera pod (ReconPod_MiG21), using the 2ndary or mirrore hardpoint. this is just a quick look, so don't hold me to accuracy... Ths is off the 21R in my WoE install: standard centerline station: [CenterlineStation] SystemType=WEAPON_STATION StationID=5 StationGroupID=3 StationType=EXTERNAL AttachmentPosition=0.0,0.23,-0.77 AttachmentAngles=0.0,-1.0,0.0 LoadLimit=500 AllowedWeaponClass=RCN,GP AttachmentType=SOVIET ModelNodeName=Centerline_Pylon PylonMass=40 PylonDragArea=0.02 then just create a copy of it, and don't forget to add it to the fuselage in the "SystemName=" section [CenterlineStation2] SystemType=WEAPON_STATION StationID=6 StationGroupID=4 note a new group StationType=EXTERNAL AttachmentPosition=0.0,0.23,-0.77 this is stock height, I'd lower it down .25 to hide inside AttachmentAngles=0.0,-1.0,0.0 LoadLimit=100 reduced weight to load only light CM dispensers AllowedWeaponClass=EP AttachmentType=SOVIET ModelNodeName=Centerline_Pylon PylonMass=40 PylonDragArea=0.02 As to the CM dispenser pod, use the F104ReconPod, and just use the weapons editor to change it to a dispenser This is just a real fast build, so it's not quite right... [WeaponData****] TypeName=SovCMDispenser FullName=MiG-21R CM Dispenser ModelName=104Recon Mass=99.000000 Diameter=0.500000 Length=1.000000 AttachmentType=SOVIET NationName=SOVIET StartYear=1969 EndYear=2025 Availability=1 BaseQuantity=24 Exported=TRUE ExportStartYear=1969 ExportEndYear=2025 ExportAvailability=2 WeaponDataType=4 StoreType=2 NumChaff=20 NumFlare=20 EjectPosition=0.000000,-1.000000,0.000000 EjectVelocity=0.000000,-1.000000,0.000000 the lod used for the Starfighter's recce pod is acutally one of the napalm canisters, hex edited and repainted. This should get you started. Wrench kevin stein ps: actually shouldn't that quote be "Every MiG is a good.....Target????

Yes. Obviously, the blind eels would be at a disadvantage, unless they've got echo-location (which could be an evolutionary development, ala bats) Wrench kevin stein

I take you haven't read my "Notes on Fishbeds" in the Loadout Fixes thread????? You'll probably want to get the Indian AF Fishbed fixes from the downloads section here, read THOSE notes...and make the necessary 'adjustments' Looks like mix-matched lods there m'boy, along with wanked-out shadow too. Remember, NOTHING from howling1 original pak will work right off....most of them are already fixed, and uploaded here. Wrench kevin stein

Right now, it has "0" strength as a jammer, so that needs some adjusting. Hmmm....one wonders if you couldn't double the pod (and the mounting hardpoint).... Have another station EXACTLY on the same spot, make a copy of the D pod, change it to a CM dispenser, and then add the necessary flaff and chares, and mount it directly OVER the jammer pod. Give it a very light weight (10 or 15 kgs). It would then be hidden on top of itself, and you get the added bonus of having the jammer AND disposables all at the same place Editing the data and loadout inis is a nothing job...just adding a hardpoint in the same place as the original. 20 minutes, maybe a half hours worth of work!!! Now, the historicality (real life usage), well....that's another matter!!! Wrench kevin stein ps: I just did a whole bunch of fixes for the Indaian Fishbeds...but don't remember if I put the dispensers on. You all go check the Bison and let me know!!

F4U-1C "Corsair" modification for SF/WoV/WoE WW2 PTO installs This package is a simple mod to the existing F4U-1C created by Wolf257. It includes mods to the data, loadout and cockpit ini. There is also a new skin, representing VMF-311 in late 1944 to the end of the war time frame. And a few other bits and goodies. The loadout has been modified from the original, as I've discoverd the -1Cs only used the inboard rocket rails. Also, I've changed the centerline station's drop tank type to use Geo's from his Hellcat. It's much closer to the actual shape and size. -- so you MUST have the latest weapons pak, and/or Geo's Hellcat installed to make use of his tank!!!! (it also makes real good sense to have Wolf's WW2 planes pak installed, to have the -1C Corsair, as well) Please read the enclosed readme for full, detailed instructions, plus notes, comments and general mayhem. Happy Landings! Wrench Kevin Stein -
There's been an EW pod for the Fishbeds in the weapons pak for over 2 year now...look for item "RecPodD" Wrench kevin stein
