It's The Pits

There are some systems in real life which can detect the launch of a missile. It are a kind of IR seekers which detect the flame of the rocket motor when the missile starts. But this systems fail when the missile comes over a longer distance. IIRC over 3 km you get no warning. So it is not really reliable.

There were a lot of WW2 war movies. 4 good examples were: "Das Boot" "The boat"from West Germany "Die Abenteuer des Werner Holt" The adventures of Werner Holt from East Germany http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1XL8VsYDCvg and 2 from the USSR: "Батальоны просят огня" Battalions ask for fire and "Отец солдата" Father of a soldier

THe problem of the map, which Baltika shows is, that it is warped. Especially the british islands and France. The West East distances are to short. Germany is much to small at this map. And finally, if you make such big maps, you cant get the desity of target areas which are neccessary for central europe. You will fly over a big emptiness where in reality are a lot of targets.

Valmet Kotka
Gepard replied to Spinners's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Sci-Fi/Anime/What If Forum
Really cool bird. But if i remember right the word "Kotka" means "cat" in some eastern european languages. -
In 1948 there was no Warshaw Pact. It was founded 1955. But i think a Soviet, Polish and Czech alliance would face the western forces in a 1948 scenario. Soviet planes: Yak-9, La-9 and La-11, Yak-15, MiG-9 as fighter force. The MiG-15 was not operational in 1948. In late 1949 the first units got this bird.

Here a short preview terrain. - all airfields set on the map, but they are still only skeletons (no shelters etc.pp) - air Defence networks set for Denmark and East Germany - ground combat only at 2 beachheads on danish islands is made for WOE, use stock GermanyCE terrain as basic. 2 new tiles, others to make a better coastline will follow. Its still a lot to do. To install simply unzip intp your WOE/terrain folder Ostseeausgang.rar

CVN Ulyanovsk
Gepard replied to Julhelm's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - File Announcements
I have tried it. But is does not work for First Gen sims. Unfortunatly. -

Its a beauty! -
A small status report: all danish, swedish, westgerman, eastgerman, polish and soviet airbases are placed now on the map. Towns are placed for all nations. Sweden is set as Neutral, dont worry that the swedish targets are shown in red. They are not used by the red side. And for the case, that someone thinks that the red sausages of Denmark are only a rumour: Skol!!!

late 70th, early 80th and then MiG-29 and Su-29? They came mid to late 80th. If you take the MiG-23 in account you also must say which version. MiG-23MS you can forget MiG-23MF only as interceptor with their medium range missiles usefull MiG-23ML now it becomes a good rival MiG-23MLD is a deadly beast Same with the MiG-21. Between the MiG-21PF and the MiG-21Bison are miles. A Bison is extremly deadly, while a MiG-21PF is nearly useless

Rafale wins Indian MMRCA contract
Gepard replied to ghostrider883's topic in Military and General Aviation
I accept that India favors the french Rafale to have a second iron in the fire, to become not to much depend on Russia. But not that the Rafale is cheaper than the MiG's. That the MiG's were out of business was caused by the russian inability to hold the timeframe in the past. The MiG-21Bison was far behind the schedule and the Varjag carrier is it too. So i think India is hoping to get the Rafale in a more reliable timeframe. -
Me too Have a very old computer at work. Operates with Win3.1 Stoneage of computertime. And its true, searching, tracking and sinking a carrier battle groupe is a cool job in "Harpoon"
