  1. I think he may be reacting to Olham's greeting. Roger55--Olham meant no harm or insult to you. He is one of the nicest people on the forum and has never said a cross word to anyone that I can remember. He is not a native English speaker, however. This is usually not a problem for him but he may have unintentionally come across as being confrontational in his post. I am positive he did not mean to be. Olham--In the USA, "So what" usually is meant as a challenge, often followed by a sarcastic comment, as in "So what if you have 25 confirmed claims in only 10 sorties. What realism level are you using--10%?" I think Roger55 thought you were calling him a little wet behind the ears instead of merely welcoming him to the forum and inviting him to tell us where he is from. I understood what you really meant, but maybe Roger55 didn't.
  2. ZZ, If stutters are a problem, you might try experimenting with turning VSync off and on, and setting your frame rates to a maximum setting somewhere in the 30's. You can access the FPS setting here: OBDSoftware\CFSWW1 Over Flanders Fields\default and opening the CFS3.xml file with a text editor. Look for the line <Graphics OldAircraftRender="No" MaxFPS="0"/> and change MaxFPS=0 to a different value. Start with 25 or 30 and gradually increase until you notice a slow down in performance.
  3. We are all at the mercy of (the) Fates! Fortunately, (the) Fates has been very kind to us. Thank you, Fates. Good job!
  4. Payback! Nicely done avenging your two squad mates. I wonder how you did against the two Camels on your tail at the end, however?
  5. Yes, Fates, I was also too quick on the draw! Thank you for taking a huge chunk out of your weekend to update the forums! I'm sure they will look great once all your tweaking is finished! Cheers!
  6. Sgt. BuB, as dangerous to his mates as he is to the Germans! His 47 kills (so far), is almost matched by his 12 bar fights, 4 reprimands for verbal abuse of a superior officer (The CO is a bit of a wanker!), 6 reprimands for being late to roll call, and 8 or 9 arrests for being drunk and disorderly! Of course, this tally does not include any of his infamous pranks, for which he is also well-known for. The fact that he has not been busted to private must be on account of the number of his kills (and also perhaps the rumored photos he has of the CO in bed with the regimental commander's mistress)!
  7. Have to admit, not a big fan so far.
  8. This is a known issue with scramble missions. For some reason, hitting the map key in a scramble dumps many users back to the OFF manager. No known work around other than don't hit the map key!
  9. Nice, Red-dog. Makes me want to stand up and salute!
  10. I voted no but it doesn't really matter too much to me. I usually fly at about 20-40% realism, but a lot of that is because I choose the medium setting for claims. I agree that removing the ratings will not have much of an effect, because we humans are an ornery lot and are always comparing d*** lengths. So, even if the ratings were removed, people would find something else to use to compare themselves to one another. My only suggestion is to eliminate or substantially lower the rating for the claims procedure. My reasons why are this: in contrast to the other boxes, such as gun jams, wind effects, AI accuracy, stress damage, etc. the claims form has nothing to do with how difficult it is to fly and fight while in the air. Some may argue that the claims form increases realism because it helps simulate the totality of the actual WWI airmen's experience in the air and on the ground, of which filling out paperwork is certainly one aspect. OTOH, there is a LOT of the actual WWI airman's experience on the ground that is NOT represented in the sim. Seems a bit strange to have the only aspect of the airmen's experience on the ground that is represented in the sim make up so much of the realism percentage. My belief is that most people choose the full claims procedure because it helps give them a feeling for the period, not because it makes the game any harder. If it could be proved that filling out paperwork made one a better pilot, then I might be for weighting the claims procedure so heavily. Myself, I have to deal with enough paperwork at work. I don't care to be bothered with it during my free time! In conclusion, I am in favor either of eliminating the claims rating entirely, or turning it down to maybe 10% or so. However, since many people like it, I think the feature itself should be retained. Everything else about ratings should stay the same, IMHO.
  11. Fellows, In an effort to make my DM and other 3rd party DMs as easy to use as possible, I have come up with a few files to help manage your xdp and bdp files. These files are particularly helpful if you would like to test an alternative DM but then want to switch back to the stock OBD DM. Even if you use JSGME to manage damage files and other mods, you can use the deletebdps.bat included with DM Utilities to erase bdp files after installing a new DM. CFS3 automatically replaces the bdp files with new ones that match your new xdp files when you next start the game. You can download DM Utilities here: http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?showtopic=45877 Have fun!
  12. Newegg is a nice on-line store where I have made several purchases. Fast shipping and no complaints here. They even replaced a MB I thought was bad, no questions asked--turns out it was the memory, not the MB!
  13. Lots of good advice here, guys! Anyone care to break it down a little more by price range? For example: cheap, moderately priced, expensive, premium?
  14. As someone named Neo once said, "Whoa!" I do worry about the effect on frame rates, though.
  15. Gentlemen and WomenFly2, An updated version of HPWFB VDM is now available for users who have JSGME. Go to the 3rd party file and mods announcement thread for details. Changes to 1.1 Made mod fully compatible with Jonesoft's Generic Mod Enabler. Now, users of JSGME simply need to unzip the mod by right-clicking on the HPWFB_DM_1_1.zip folder and extracting to your CFSWW1 Over Flanders Fields\MODS folder. Follow the JSGME instructions to activate the mod. Users can find JSGME at the following address: http://www.users.on.net/~jscones/software/...ucts-jsgme.html 2) After activating the mod, be sure to navigate back to the CFSWW1 Over Flanders Fields\MODS folder and click on the deletebdps.bat program to remove any old bdp files remaining from older DM installs. That's it! NOTE: Version 1.1 is intended ONLY for users of JSGME. If you are not using JSGME, please download and use version 1.0 of the HPWFB DM!

DM Utilities by Herr Prop-Wasche v1.0 Thank you for downloading DM Utilities! The three batch files contained within this download are designed to assist users to easily manage their xdp and bdp files. As most BHaH users already know, xdp files are largely responsible for controlling the damage model of each aircraft in the game. If you do not use a mod management program, such as Jonesoft's Generic Mod Enabler (JSGME), managing all 389 xdp files so you can try out different damage models can be a cumbersome process. The three files contained in the DM Utilities folder makes the process of copying, backing up, and restoring these files a snap! DM Utilities contains the following three files: 1) CopyXDPs.bat This file automatically copies all 389 xdp files from your CFSWW1 Over Flanders Fields\aircraft folder and stores them in a folder named OBDStockXDP, which is then placed in the CFSWW1 OverFlanders Fields main folder. Run this program if you do not use JSGME before you install any 3rd party damage mods. 2) Deletebdps.bat This file automatically deletes old bdp files located in your aircraft folder left over by previous damage model installations. Run this program any time you replace one damage model with another model--even if you use JSGME! BHaH will automatically recreate the correct bdp files the next time you start the game. You may also run this program anytime a DM does not appear to be displaying the appropriate damage effects. 3) RestoreXDPs.bat This file automatically restores all previous xdp files to your aircraft folder that were placed in the OBDStockXDP folder when you ran the CopyXDPs.bat program. Run this program when you wish to go back to the previous damage model and you do not use the JSGME mod enabler. After restoring the xdp files, it is recommended that you run the Deletebdps.bat program again. INSTALLATION: Simply unzip the DM Utilities zip file into your CFSWW1 Over Flanders Fields folder. A new folder named DM Utilities containing the three batch files will be automatically created inside the main folder. Please note: Although I have extensively tested all three programs in this download, I cannot guarantee they will work on every computer system. Therefore, use of any of these files is at your own risk. I will, of course, attempt to answer any question or problem you may have. Users may contact me at the Over Flanders Fields forum, located at http://forum.combatace.com

  18. I do mainly stick to the more stable gun platforms: Albs, DVII, Se5a, Pup. Occasionally I will make a foray into the DH2's, Camels, and DRI's, but usually get my a** kicked!
  19. Swweeeeeet!! Nice effect so far. If you can get more guns firing at the same time we would have some pretty good fireworks!
  20. In honor of the beer thread and Olham's mention of Germany's wines, I thought I'd start a wine thread and learn a little more about good wines. I'm not much of an expert myself, but I really enjoyed some of the locally produced German white wines when I was over there many, many years ago. About all I remember now is that there are three levels of sweetness allowed in German whites: Kabinett, Spätlese, and Auslese. So, what are some of your favorites? And do you drink a particular countries wines when flying for that side--British and American "wines" excepted?
  21. Bumpmaps, I think, but I'm not sure what those are, either.
  22. Yeh, and don't think you can climb away from the Spads as easily now with the new FM. With their speed they can quickly get under you in level flight, climb, and pepper you pretty good before losing their speed and altitude again. Now THEY dictate the beginning and ending of the battle! Good job OBD!
  23. Already ahead of you, FB. I put instructions in version 1.1 of the DM to do just that. In fact, I'm thinking about creating an "OFF DM Utility Pack" which will be composed of three utilities: 1) the deletebdps.bat, 2) a utility to backup xdp files from your aircraft folder, and 3) a utility to restore xdp files to the aircraft folder. We'll have none of that famed British modesty here, FB! Couldn't have done it without your help and input!
  24. Sticky, sticky, sticky!!!
