  1. 10 June 2022 Dear Fighter Pilots, Partners and Friends, This week we released DCS 2.7.15.25026 to Open Beta with many new enhancements and fixes that can be viewed in the full change log. Most notably, we are pleased to announce that DCS: South Atlantic map is now available. To provide time to adequately test, the South Atlantic Assets Pack will be delivered in an upcoming Open Beta update. The South Atlantic map encompasses parts of the Atlantic, Pacific and Southern oceans. Covering southern Argentina and Chile, the map also includes a recreation of the Falkland/Malvinas Islands. We are also pleased to provide you with a free updated external model of the CVN-74 John C. Stennis. This is an initial step in improving the free Nimitz-class aircraft carrier. Thank you for your passion and support. Yours sincerely, Eagle Dynamics DCS: South Atlantic Available now in Open Beta The RAZBAM Terrain Development Team is proud to present the South Atlantic map that is a beautiful and majestic combination of Argentina, Chile, and the Falkland/Malvinas Islands. The topography of the region includes the beautifully rugged mountains of Chile, the vast and colorful Patagonian plains of Argentina, and the windswept islands of West and East Falklands/Malvinas. Covering an area of 3.1 million square kilometres, the team’s goal has been to give the DCS community the opportunity to develop missions that reflect the scale and complexity of modern-day operations in this scenic region. When developing this map, the team was proactive in listening to the DCS community regarding both scale and requirements of modern-day military operations. This provides the best possible experience and leverages land-class textures drawn from aerial and satellite photography. Development of the South Atlantic map will continue, and the team is now moving their focus from the Falkland/Malvinas Islands to mainland Argentina and Chile. They will flesh out the rural areas of the map to provide a more authentic and lived-in look. This will include adding additional buildings, infrastructure, and tidying up vector data (like mountains). Our community's input pushed for the inclusion of mainland and the team dedicated to make it even better. Moving forward, additional airfields will be added throughout the map to provide a diversified area of Naval and Fighter operations. The goal is to include all airfields at a high quality level. More villages, settlements, and road infrastructure improvements will be added across the various regions. The following items will also be further improved during the early access period: Visible tiling around some airfields and at certain view angles. Some angular sea cliffs Forest tiling from some view angles The DCS: South Atlantic map has undertaken a new strategy for generating terrain. Whereas all other DCS maps rely heavily on art-created ground textures combined with satellite textures, the South Atlantic map relies mostly on satellite textures. While this results in a more realistic looking map at medium to high altitudes, ground textures may appear less defined at low altitude. The team is committed to further improving the low-altitude terrain textures. CVN-74 Stennis Free Update We have updated the 3D exterior model of the CVN-74 John C. Stennis aircraft carrier, and are pleased to announce that this update is completely free to all of you. We eagerly await your feedback. Thank you again for your passion and support, Yours sincerely,

    Top Gun 2022

Saw it today and yes very good overall I thought. Have downloaded the free MSFS2020 TopGun Maverick add on so am sorted!
  4. The skin looks okay on that considering I only made it for single seater models. Has the right inlet size - although another externally recognisable feature is the WAR HUD but probably not needed.
  5. Not aware of any difference regarding weapon stations to the single seat version a country may use. One load out chart to cover both usually.
  6. You can leave 4.35 in place and install 4.36 to a different folder - the launcher will point to 4.36 by default though. I only did it to check some things in 4.35 before deleting it.
  7. the latest iteration of the Tommo Inc Falcon 4.0 total conversion modification - Benchmark Sims 4.36 - is available for you to enjoy as of RIGHT NOW! BMS 4.36 requires a legit installation of a Falcon 4.0 (all older and newer versions are accepted alike, i.e. Microprose, Hasbro, GOG, Steam, Retroism). The check is performed both at setup time and every time you start BMS. If no valid installation is found, BMS will exit with a corresponding error message. For those of you who are new to Falcon and still need a legacy Falcon 4.0 license, you’re lucky, as there are various season sales going on. Retroism GOG Note that this is NOT an exhaustive list of where to buy Falcon 4.0, it’s just a list of retailers known to me (best effort) that offer sales/discounts, for your convenience. The list will not be updated. This mod may not be used for any commercial purposes. Any such use may constitute a violation of the intellectual property of Tommo Inc and the non-commercial Terms and Conditions under which Benchmark Sims make this mod available to you. NOTES: 4.36 is not an update to the former 4.35, but a new independent base installation 4.36 can co-exist with 4.35 on the same machine — The build number string in the Falcon UI will read “4.36.0 (x64) Build 26181” for the base installation A big THANK YOU to everyone in the BMS development team and to the gents from TOMMO INC who made this release possible! Now download and enjoy! Falcon BMS 4.36 is now available to download from https://www.falcon-bms.com/downloads/ Trailer By Br3No ==========Disclaimer========== Video contains some visual and sound effects that are not included in the official 4.36 release. 9. First suggest you take the mods out and add them back one at a time - to narrow down what is causing it. Yes it will take some time.
  10. The CH stuff works fine with SF2 in Win 10 and 11 Been so many years since I moved from 7 I don't remember - I may have just remapped the CH stuff in Game from fresh - doesn't take long. I may have had to run as admin to get the controls to stick.
  11. F-35 is the only choice really - they need something for the next 40 years and yes I know drones but the Lightning 1 was also seen by some as the last manned fighter back in the 1950s The F-35 has won every comp so far because it is on a different planet and wins on: Cost partly due to large economies of scale Capability to cost ratio Worldwide logistics setup Growth potential Interoperability with NATO countries and Allies Capability (5 Gen sensor fusion etc) Regarding Old fashioned metrics - no point comparing with things like the Super Hornet because the F-35A is clearly better at the slow speed high alpha stuff and the F-35A is still 9G at full fuel and M1.6 with an actual combat loadout. The Gripen Es main competitor on the export market is really the F-16V...................and quite frankly neither of these are cheap to procure compared to the F-35 despite them being the low end. Here are some bits from the Switzerland evaluation: Fighter aircraft: F-35A offers highest overall benefit at lowest cost by far All the candidates met the requirements set for the evaluation. For both the fighter aircraft and the longer-range GBAD system, the candidate promising the highest benefit was also the one priced the lowest. In the case of the fighter aircraft, this candidate is the F-35A. With 336 points, it showed the highest overall benefit and was the clear winner with a lead of 95 points or more over the other candidates. This aircraft scored best in three of the four main criteria evaluated: • In terms of effectiveness, the F-35A achieved the best result because it has a marked technological advantage over the other candidates: it includes entirely new, extremely powerful and comprehensively networked systems for protecting and monitoring airspace. The F-35A is able to ensure information superiority; this means pilots benefit from a higher situational awareness in all task areas when compared with the other candidates. This is especially true for day-to-day air policing. What is more, the F-35A is the only aircraft that has been designed from the ground up to be especially difficult for other weapons systems to detect. The resulting high survivability is a great advantage for the Swiss Air Force. In addition, because the F-35A is comparatively easy to operate and is able to provide information superiority, it requires less training and has a better ratio of flight to simulator hours. Because of this, the F-35A requires about 20% fewer flight hours than other candidates, and about 50% fewer take-offs and landings than the Air Force’s current jet aircraft, which the F-35A will be replacing. Finally, it can be assumed that as the newest of the weapons systems evaluated, the F-35A will be able to sustain its technological lead well into the future. Given the planned service life of 30 years, this is a major advantage over the other candidates. • In terms of product support, the F-35A achieved the highest rating because of its efficient operation and maintenance, modern training design, and the high security of supply throughout its service life. This is attributable in part to the F-35A being manufactured in the highest numbers and it being the aircraft most commonly used by air forces in Europe. • The F-35A was also the best performer in terms of cooperation, offering extensive opportunities for operational collaboration and broad access to data and technical resources. • In direct offset, the F-35A did not achieve the best result at the time the bid was made. The offset obligation of 60% of the order must be fulfilled in full no later than four years after receipt of the final delivery. As far as fleet size is concerned, for all four candidates a fleet of 36 aircraft would be large enough to cover Switzerland’s airspace protection needs over the longer term in a prolonged situation of heightened tensions. The Air Force must be able to ensure that Swiss airspace cannot be used by foreign parties in a military conflict. F-35A to cost around CHF 2 billion less than competitors In addition to the benefits, the F-35A also achieved by far the best result in terms of costs. Both procurement and operation costs are the lowest for this aircraft. At the time the bids were made in February 2021, the procurement costs amounted to CHF 5.068 billion – well under the financial cap of CHF 6 billion set by voters. Even when accounting for inflation up to the time of payment, procurement costs will remain below the credit limit. The F-35A also has the lowest operating costs of all of the candidates evaluated. The total costs of the F-35A (i.e. procurement plus operating costs) amounts to approximately CHF 15.5 billion over 30 years. This is around CHF 2 billion less than the second-lowest bidder. https://www.admin.ch/gov/en/start/documentation/media-releases.msg-id-84275.html

  13. First thing I did was move the bottom Start menu to the left where it is supposed to be.
  14. Currently nothing more than another typical propaganda war story as it stands. Note - this thread like the others will have a very limited lifetime unless people start to question and check what they are reading (from both sides).
  15. Flight sim survey 2021 shows Female participation has gone up to 1%.
  16. Might be just a service date things maybe or if you have just downloaded it there were a few reasons why things didn't show or 23 on here:
  17. The plan is to replace F-22 with NGAD and prototypes have already flown according to the USAF....they intend to keep F-22A around till that comes in (2030s maybe) Politicians cancelled F-22 and now they realize the mistake and numbers are needed F-35 will have to pick up any slack. Likewise the small F-15EX buy which only exists thanks to politics (the USAF clearly didn't want it) had to be justified to replace worn out F-15Cs although luckily for some of them they are already moving to F-35. The F-15EX unit cost looks horrendous for what you get and there are major changes compared to the other F-15CDEs they use.
  18. Frequently Asked Questions: The DCS: F-4 Phantom by Heatblur Simulations Q: When will the DCS: F-4 Phantom by Heatblur Simulations release? A: DCS: F-4E has been in development for some time and will be released later in 2022. Stay tuned for our full unveiling closer to launch day! Q: What variants will the Heatblur F-4 Phantom include? A: The first release will be DCS: F-4E, the iconic land based variant of the Phantom. We will be launching two variants of the -E; a “classic era” F-4E (blocks 36-45 with updates retrofitted in 1974 and before, including new slats, DSCG and AGM-65) as well as an upgraded (DMAS) version of the aircraft in one package. Q: Will there be a Navy F-4? A: Yes! Our Phantom journey only begins with the -E. However, owing to the complexity of the work and investment of time and effort, it will not be included in the DCS: F-4E product. We’re instead choosing to focus on providing the most content rich F-4E we possibly can, and then set our sights on further telling the legendary story of the F-4. Q: Will the Heatblur F-4 Phantom released as Early Access? A: The F-4E will be released as Early Access first. Much like the F-14 Tomcat, we plan on releasing it as feature complete as we can, including Singleplayer and Multicrew capability, a WSO-AI, an elaborate Flight Model, functioning cockpits and instruments, the main set of air to ground and air to air weapons such as sidewinders, sparrrows, mavericks, laser guided bombs, dumb bombs, a gun and of course a fully functional radar, avionics suite and F-4 specific systems that will help you dominate the battlefields of its time. As usual it will come chock-full of content, including training missions, Singleplayer missions, Multiplayer scenarios and of course, more than one campaign. Q: Will it come with Multicrew capability and a WSO AI? A: From day one you will be able to enjoy the F-4 with full multicrew functionality and with the JESTER-AI, tailored to the needs and capabilities of the F-4 Phantom. Q: Why won’t all variants be part of one module? A: The investment of time and effort to do the Navy and Marine Corps versions of the F-4 justice makes it unrealistic for us to include everything in one package. We want to make sure to tell the story of each Phantom variant chosen in the most content rich and appropriate way possible, while making sure that we stay a thriving and viable team. We’ll share more details on our plans with regards to variant additions to the F-4 later, but we remain steadfastly committed to ensuring that we are fair to our beloved community and supporters. Q: Why does the announcement come so early? A: We initially wanted to keep things a secret until we were just about ready to release, but the volume of interest and questions about the F-4 made that quite impossible! Hopefully you enjoyed the announcement trailer, even if short- stay tuned for our full unveiling closer to release day. We’re excited about you all being a part of the Phantom journey Q: When will you share more? A: As the development of the module continues, we will try to be as transparent as possible and include you as much as we can, sharing the different stages of the development as well as exploring this phabulous aircraft together with you all. Q: What about the Eurofighter, the A-6E, F-14 and Viggen? Are you biting off too much? A: The Heatblur team has never grown nor been more capable than it is today. The trust you put in us is absolutely sacred, and the announcement of the F-4 has no bearing on the steadfast commitment to continued progress on existing and other future modules. The F-4 has been under active development since early 2021, and our roadmap, including the Eurofighter and other future modules was created in this context. With an ever expanding portfolio, it is important for us to ensure that we will not let up on maintaining our high standards for all of our modules, released or yet to be released. Per astra ad aspera, upwards and onwards, with our partners at Eagle Dynamics we plan to continue on pushing boundaries as long as we stand and could not be more excited about both present and future. https://forums.eagle.ru/topic/291784-frequently-asked-questions-the-dcs-f-4-phantom-by-heatblur-simulations/
  19. Back in 2004 a book was released by Osprey that likely caused a few (thousand) Internet forum arguments……………...Iranian F-14 Tomcat units in combat by Tom Cooper and Farzad Bishop. The information in the book shattered the typical Western held views and perception of what really might have happened during the eight-year Iran Vs Iraq conflict in the 1980s. The book is probably owned by most Tomcat fans out there and even was referred to positively by both Dave Baranek and his guest Iranian former F-14 pilot (Mikey) in Episode 5 of the Tomcast on YouTube. But what was the controversy all about and how accurate was the information presented? After all information is usually the first casualty of war and it usually takes decades afterwards to even start scratching the surface. Lack of Information Osprey books are normally very well researched using the best information available that they can get released into the public domain. That information can often be cross checked especially in the US where more of this information is available. The problem with the Iran/ Iraq conflict is that most of the official Iraq war records seems to have been lost during the constant state of conflict there. Likewise getting credible information from Iran also involves contacting those who have to remain anonymous due to such things as political persecution and death threats. (Even if they live outside of Iran) Trust Today Tom Cooper is probably one of the top authorities on Middle Eastern Combat having published many books with leading Historians….. but this book was one of his first and it had listed almost no source references! You basically had to put trust that Osprey had actually had a look at where this information was coming from. What gets your backs up! The book is only written from an Iranian point of view and thus, to most of us that does not mean you can dismiss it but you need to be weary that there is always more than one side to every story. We also have to accept that the information on the conflict was still not great at this point in time and therefore unlike most Osprey books you had to accept that the information was raw and a higher percentage of it was likely wrong. For an example of the hodgepodge of data, in the chapter “The Fog of Disinformation” it states: “It remains unclear exactly how many air-to air kills were scored by IRIAF F-14s between 7 Sept 1980 and 7 July 1988” It then tells us that a Post war Iranian conference concluded that a total of 71 x AIM-54s had been fired with a further 10 lost (Due to crashes/defection etc) The conference also determined the F-14 had a total of 30 x confirmed kills with 16 of those confirmed AIM-54 kills. The author then states that they have further evidence for 130 confirmed kills total including 40 with the AIM-54. Then if we move to the Appendices, it lists another figure - around 58 “confirmed kills” with the AIM-54 and around 159 total confirmed kills. [more on that later] So then the hodgepodge of information gives a total that might be in the range of 30 to 159 for total claims, and AIM-54 claims might range from 16 to 58 [okay] Accuracy The book was the first time most found out that perhaps the F-14s were used in combat and that stories of the US sabotaging all the missiles etc were not completely true. This is one thing in the book at least that is backed up in some other interviews like here: What is the biggest myth about the Iranian F-14s? “The most tiresome is that the departing US personnel stationed in Iran managed to sabotage Iranian F-14 radar, electronics and Phoenix missiles before leaving Iran in the ensuing days after the 1979 revolution. Let me tell you that I was a young officer during those days at Esfahan Khatami air base. Our wing commanders and senior officers made sure this never happened. We lined up departing American personnel before boarding their TWA aircraft and inspected them all. From: F-14 Tomcat pilot Col. Fereydoun A. Mazandarani (rtd) The Appendices and the art of the Kill Although there is probably a lot of useful information in the book the one area that always seems a tad flaky was the Appendices which lists 159 confirmed kills in total for the Iranian F-14A. It does at least list some sources for the information. What we can do is take information released more recently (including newer text from T Cooper) from the Iraqi side and see what has changed and if it can be matched up in anyway to these confirmed kills. In particular Iraqi Mirages in Combat (2018, Miguel Garcia, Independent) Iraqi Mirages (2019, Tom Cooper & Milos Sipos, Helion) A confirmed kill is not a confirmed Kill In the history of aerial warfare, the difference between confirmed kills stated by one side only and the real actual kills has been like the difference between Jupiter and the Sun! In fact, ridiculous claims are even partly to blame for major blunders such as the USAAF sending in unescorted bombers for so long over Germany in 1943 to their inevitable slaughter. After all, why do you need escort fighters if your bomber crews claims show they have already shot down the entire Luftwaffe! A good airforce should only claim a confirmed kill based on multiple criteria – even gun camera film in the past has not been enough evidence of an actual shootdown. Pilots in the stress of combat are extremely bad eyewitnesses and here we have a conflict where pilots are firing missiles BVR. One explosion in the distance or a radar blip disappearing are not evidence of an actual shootdown. So, a “confirmed kill” by one side is usually better described as a “Claim” instead. 33 claims on Mirage F1s………. hmm That’s right, the Appendices in the book list 33 F-14A “confirmed kills” (claims) over Mirage F1s. (Garcia M) only lists a total of 32 Mirages lost over the period to all causes! Out of that, only 2 of those dates match any of those 33 events. [what!] So is that 2 actual losses only out of 33 claims listed!! [Oh dear]. But wait you say that independent book from Garcia M cannot be much use, can it? Well, the thing is the 2019 (T Cooper / Sipos) book actually matches the information in the (Garcia M) book closely and almost disowns the 2004 data like a child that doesn’t meet its ideals. The (T Cooper / Sipos) book does mention another 2 of the events out of the list of 33 but in both cases states the missiles fired by the F-14 missed the Mirages. So where does the figure of 33 comes from? - Is it coincidence that the total number of Mirage F1 losses (Garcia M) to all causes comes to about 32 for that period?? Better information? Either way both of the newer books provide information that Iranian F-14As may have shot down 7 or 8 Mirage F1s during the conflict [Yes, slightly less than 33]. Likewise, they also show that Mirage F1s may have shot down 4 x F-14As (a 5th F-14A was hit but flew back to base) Is that accurate? – only time will tell but at least the numbers are going in the right direction [down] Other things noted in the 2004 book are, the Appendices also show most of the Sidewinders and Sparrows used as the type AIM-9P and AIM-7E-4. The more recent information suggests that Iran only had the AIM-9J and AIM-7E-2 and were essentially using ones supplied for their F-4s which had degraded capability because of it. Also, on page 76 the 2004 book tells us (from the Iranian side) that Iraq received Super 530D and Magic 2 missiles. The recent information in both newer books suggest Iraq only received Magic 1 and Super 530F missiles and nearly all their claims were using the Super 530F. So, perhaps some progress has been made in the past 2 decades because instead of these authors shouting at people on internet forums (yes, some did) there is maybe a bit more calm and willingness to look at both sides and the actual data available. The final word on the book is that its real value was not only to highlight that the conflict was very different to published stories about it at the time, but also may have helped inspire those more passionate to get out there and start digging for better information. 20. Considering this was late 1970s / early 80s the chines on the nose suggest it is a model or picture of a YF-17. There was only a single full size mockup built by Northrop to demo the F-18L...( F-18L in flight photos about are YF-17 or FA-18As) None of the Northrop models, or artist drawings I have seen show those chines and neither did the full size mockup.
