    1. Vought F8U-1 (F-8A) Crusader for SF2

      The first production model of the Crusader was the F8U-1,which was later redesignated the F-8A. It first flew on September 20, 1955, and 318 were built between 1956 and 1958. The initial order had been for 448 aircraft, but the last 130 were delivered as F8U-1Es (F-8Bs). The first thirty aircraft were fitted with the Pratt & Whitney J57-P-12 engine, but this was replaced with the more powerful -4 version and in all subsequent F-8As. The original thirty were then retrofitted with the -4 as well. This made the F-8A a Mach 1.5 aircraft. Other improvements added during the production run included the addition of a retractable in-flight refueling probe in a blister on the forward left side of the fuselage. This was begun with the fiftieth production aircraft, and retrofitted to the earlier airframes. The original Vought ejection seat was replaced with the Martin Baker F5 seat.

      The F-8A was armed with four 20mm canon, thirty-two 2.75-inch rockets in a drawer in the lower fuselage, and two Sidewinder missiles could be carried on fuselage stations. The AN/APG-30 gunsight radar and fire control system was installed for weapons delivery. The first aircraft was accepted for service in December 1956, just four years and three months after the issue of the original requirement by the Navy. It was delivered to VF-32 in March, 1957, with VMF-122 being the first Marine squadron to receive the Crusader. The first carrier deployment was with VF-32 on board the USS Saratoga, (CVA-60).

      After being replaced with later versions of the Crusader, the F-8As were relegated to training roles, serving as advanced single-seat trainers. The designation TF-8A was often applied to these aircraft.

      Your F-8A has early markings for either VA-32 or VF-122. The rocket armament IS INCLUDED but you will not see the drawer open and close.

      This mod has been extensively tested in SF2V.
      A read-me file with installation steps and CREDITS included.

    2. SF2 F-8J_FN (Aeronavale)

      SF2 F-8J_FN (Aeronavale)

      Require SF2 merged install...

      Aircraft is base on Thirdwire F-8J_69.

      Copy and paste the content to the appropriate folders.

      The content contain the following squadrons:

      EPNER (French Test Pilot School)
      11F Flotille
      12F Flotille (Three special schemes)
      14F Flotille (Two schemes)
      15F Flotille
      16F Flotille
      17F Flotille

      Under the French Navy, only 11F and 12F Flotille flew the Crusaders.

      The skin colors are Blue/ Medium Grey/ Grey and USN Grey.

      It is my hope that someone or the MF Team would make a F-8P_FN, as this was the latest version to fly under the Aeronavale.

      I have made extensive tweak on the .INI, Avionics (HUD), Data, and Loadout. I also try to make the aircraft as authentic as possible.

      Due to the .LOD of the F-8J, there is only the twin pylon rack on the fuselage, if you choose the single weapon option, you will see the missile mounted on the twin rack pylon. The looks is not too bad (you would not see it if you select a larger missile type such as the R-530), if it bothers you, you can edit the .Data and delete this option.

    3. F-4K (75)

      ****Royal Navy F-4K (75)****

      You have downloaded my version of the Royal Navy's pride of the fleet, the F-4K. It uses the ThirdWire F-4M model, so it's essentially just a repaint and some semi-fancy .ini editing.

      There are two skins, and markings for only one unit, No 892 Squadron. The first skin is what I thought the original aircraft looked like. The second skin is a total 'what-if'. What if the Royal Navy had never gotten rid of its big-deck carrier capability? What if they had upgraded the old Ark Royal and improved and updated the F-4K for modern carrier operations? The second skin is a low-viz grey with subdued markings. I really kind of like it, even if I'm the only one.

    4. F-104S (79)

      ****F-104S (79)****

      You have downloaded my version of Aeritalia's F-104S, the final and most definitive version of the Zipper. This particular version
      is a bit curious because when the Italians placed the demand that it be able to engage in the BVR fight with license-built Raytheon
      Sparrow III missile, it required them to add avionics that hadn't originally been intended to be used in the Starfighter.

      This forced the engineers at Aeritalia to remove the 20mm M61A1 cannon to make room.

      There is one skin and markings for four units:

      23° Stormo/5° Gruppo 'Veltro'

      21° Stormo/53° Gruppo 'Tigres'

    5. F-8E "Crouze"

      ****Aeronavale F-8E 'Crouze'****

      You have downloaded the pride of the French Navy, or at least how I saw it...

      This is the air-superiority version of the F-8E. Not a pound of air-to-ground. The French operated the 'Crouze' longer than any other operator of the type, and probably far longer than even they expected to. It's a wonderful aircraft and one of my favorites to fly.

      I chose an overall grey livery, it was one that I saw in a book somewhere, and I don't know why the Aeronavale painted them that way, perhaps they ran out of white paint for the undersides, but it was one of the most intriguing looks I've ever seen on it. It didn't last long, they painted them this color around 1975-1978 and then went to their dark grey overall scheme, which has been on it since.

    6. F-4D (67) LORAN Equipped

      F-4D Phantom II, LORAN Pak

      -- For FULL-4 Merged SF2 (Prefered) and/or SF2:V --

      (it can acutally be used in any SF2 install that has the access to the F-4D_67)

      This is a repackaging of the MPPD's F-4D Loran equipped Phantom, originally made for WoV, into a stand alone package for the SF2 series. While designed for mostly SF2:V, they can be used (as stated above) in any install that can access the F-4D_67. REMINDER- this is the ORIGINAL Loran pak, not the Night Owl skin pak.

      All inis, decals and skin bmps are inculded. As it makes use of all stock items, minimal changes have been effected. In fact, the decals themselves have been pared down, due to the fact that I modified 2 of the skins to now have painted-on slimers, thereby reducing the package size.

      The canopy has been activated via a manual animation key. Use Shift/0 to open/close it. A minor adjustment to the loadout ini has been made, 'upping' the STRIKE bombs to M-117, 750 lb bomb. The SUU-23 gunpod, while probably not used all the time, is carred for all but one mission profile (Long Range), due to the need for the centerline tank.

      Included is mppd's original F-4D LORAN readme, full of historical details.

      As always, =READ= the enclosed readme for full, detailed instructions. This package has been broken down into the various folders that SF2 needs, to make it a LOT easier to install (read: drag and drop).
      Again, as usual, the expected "Notes & Ramblings of a Madman" section for fun.

      Enjoy!

    7. QF-100 Drone

      QF-100

      I made this drone mostly as spin off of other F-100 skins that the new Hgbn temps urged me.

      The daygloo paint is always pretty .....

      There are 3 skins inside the pack: red, orange and red silver tailed (my favorite).

      The fuel probe, the weapons and, of course, the pilot are removed.

      There is also a test mission engage the drone on the north sea with an F-4F

      (It comes towards you, so simply set the search radar at maximum range and wait).

      I have to thank:

      - Hgbn for his oustanding temps;

      - The wrench for his cockipit edits;

      - Storm for original SF-1 drone, I used as a guide

      - ChampionsVA56 for hangar/loading screens, hoping he will include this in his huge
      drone collection inside his great Mescalero proving ground.

      TO INSTALL:

      Simply put all in your main mod folder.

      You need my TuAF pack installed for showing nose/gear door numbers

      To fly the test mission mission You need SF-2 EU installed.

      To make the drone un-flyable go inside QF-100 folder, open QF-100.ini
      and change this:

      [AircraftData]
      AircraftFullName=QF-100 Drone
      AircraftShortName=QF-100
      AircraftDataFile=QF-100_DATA.ini
      UserList=QF-100_UserList.ini
      LoadoutImage=F-100D_loadout.tga
      //CockpitDataFile=QF-100D_COCKPIT.ini <-------------

      Happy trainings.

      F-104SM_ROCAF for SF2

      This is my modified F-104G to the F-104S series (which I really like). In the late 1960s, Taiwan was looking at purchasing F-104S from Italy, the deal never went through. Only the Turkish Air Froce bought 40 F-104S from Italy.

      34th Squadron "Black Bat"
      35th Squadron "Black Cat"

      A short history...

      The ROCAF/Taiwan's secret 34th Squadron's RB-69A/P2V-7U ELINT/SIGINT aircraft flew electronic reconnaissance missions over China and Vietnam. Overall, from 1953 to 1967, 34th Squadron flew 838 missions, 148 Black Bat crew members went down with 15 aircraft. A few were captured after being shot down and later released in Hong Kong. Last squadron's operational mission was flown on Jan. 25, 1967. After 1967, 34th Squadron stopped flying over and near Mainland China, and moved to special ops over Vietnam, until 1972. 12 members of 34th SQ also involved in CIA's Project Main Street in 1971 to 1972, involving tapping North Vietnam's communication link.

      The Black Cat Squadron was a squadron of the Republic of China Air Force that flew the U-2 surveillance plane out of Taoyuan Airbase in northern Taiwan, from 1961 to 1974. The formal designation of the squadron was the 35th Squadron, operating under the cover of a high altitude weather research squadron. 26 ROCAF pilots successfully completed U-2 training in the US and flew 220 operational missions, including 102 surveillance flights over the People's Republic of China.
      During the squadron's 14 years of existence, five U-2's were shot down by PRC air defenses, with three pilots killed and 2 pilots captured. One other pilot was killed while performing an operational mission off China coast. Seven other Black Cat U-2s were lost during training missions, killing 6 pilots.
      The squadron usually had only two U-2 assigned to it, sometimes down to just one aircraft. A total of 19 U-2s were assigned to the Black Cat Squadron, over fourteen years.
      The intelligence gathered by the Black Cat Squadron, which included evidence of a military build-up on the Sino-Soviet border, may have contributed to the U.S. opening to China during the Nixon administration by revealing the escalating tensions between the two communist nations. Shortly after Nixon's visit to Beijing, all reconnaissance flights over the People's Republic ceased, and the Black Cat Squadron was officially disbanded in the spring of 1974.

    12. New Zealand A-4K Skyhawk Pack for SF2 Re-dux MAJOR UPDATE 14/02/11

      MAJOR UPDATE: 14/02/11

      Thanks to alejandro all 3d models are now correct. Squared off tail fin, braking parachute, varies aerials and antenna unique to the New Zealand A-4K Skyhawks have now been added. Due to the way they have been created with the fake pilot method an overhaul was required. I have also re done the markings on all skins, things such as walkway lines, stencils, warning markings etc are now historically accurate. A few other minor faults have also been corrected.

      When you re install this mod you will need to delete all previous RNZAF A-4 aircraft folders (A-4_70, A-4_72, A-4G_RNZAF, A-4_Kahu and A-4_Kahu_II) and override all files when you install it.

      This is the ultimate Royal New Zealand Skyhawk pack updated from my old Royal New Zealand Air Force A-4K Skyhawk package for Strike Fighters 2.After doing some major research for a RNZAF Skyhawk model kit I decided to upgrade my previous RNZAF Skyhawk pack but realising how much needed to be changed I decided to throw it out and create an all new far more historically/ technichally accurate pack.

      Features:

      * 5 different versions with separate models (all stock Third Wire) that cover the major changes to the airframes over the 30 years it was in service.
      - A-4K_70 Original 10 single seater Skyhawks introduced in 1970 with avionics humps (empty) and straight refuelling probes.
      - A-4K_72 Around 1972 the fleet started being retrofitted with angled re-fuelling probes.

      - A-4K_85 In 1985 the fleet started being repainted in Euro 1 camouflage.
      - A-4K_Kahu In 1986 a modernisation project was started that saw the removal of the avionics hump, an AN/APG-66NZ radar installed along with a glass cockpit, HUD, ALR-66 RWR, ECM, countermeasures and modern weapons capability.
      - A-4G_RNZAF In 1984 New Zealand purchased 8 A-4G Skyhawks from Australia that were eventually converted to the A-4K Kahu standard.

      * Over 24 different skins that cover all models of Skyhawk in New Zealand service from 1970 to 2001. Most are for the entire fleet but some are for specific aircraft with an unusual feature/ scheme etc.

      * Use of the ‘StartDefaultDate=’ feature ensures a historically accurate skin is automatically selected depending on what year you choose to fly.

      * 3 different pilot models that cover the change in flight gear over the years.

      * Extensive RWR.TGA files and updated RWR.LST

      * Historically accurate serial numbers depending on the time period and aircraft type.

      * Files and instructions to integrate the RNZAF A-4K into two of the the NATO fighters campaigns.

      * Data.ini files reflect my research into the actual A-4K and it's features.

      * Opening cockpits 'shift' + '0'
      * Working landing lights.

      * Reflective white strips added to some skins of late model aircraft as seen on real aircraft.

      Instillation:

      Note: Only tested in an all SF2 games merged install however it will work in some of the others as long as they have the right Third Wire A-4 models.

      * Historical:

      -Simply put files from the ‘Main RNZAF A-4 pack’ folder into the appropriate locations in you mods folder. Override when prompted.

      * Extras:

      - To add the RNZAF Skyhawk to the 1979 and 1986 NATO fighters campaign put the files from the ‘NATO fighters campaign’ folder into the correct place in your mods folder and override when asked. You will need to back up your campaign files first. You will need NATO fighters IV installed up to the Post-Dec2009 Update Pack # 3. http://combatace.com...-update-pack-3/ You will also need Alternate 1986 Red Storm campaign for NATO Fighters 4+ Dec 2009 Patch and Beyond by Dave installed for the A-4K to work in the 1986 campaign. http://combatace.com...tch-and-beyond/ This is because that is what I had installed when I edited the files to add the A-4K and those are the files I’ve uploaded here.

      - Fictional and What if skins: This will add a series of grey, Red flag and desert storm skins. Put the files from the ‘Fictional and What if skins’ folder into the correct locations in your mods folder.

      - A-4K II: In the ‘Proposed A-4K II’ folder is an additional aircraft that represents Phase II of the Kahu upgrade project. In 2000 when the F-16 was selected as a replacement for the Skyhawks an alternative option was also put together by the RNZAF which was Phase II of the Kahu upgrade done in the 80’s. These additional upgraded would involve a self designation capability for the LGBs, a new anti-ship missile and a new ejection seat. To this end the Litening pod had been selected and would have been migrated to the F-16 program if it had continued. To install simple put the files from the files from the ‘Proposed A-4K II’ folder into the correct locations in you mods folder and override.

      Credit: Third Wire for the game, James Fox for his RNZAF skins & decals that I used as a base and wilco for his angled re-fueling probe mode for the A-4K_Kahu & landing lights mods and alejandro for the 3d mods to make it a true K model Skyhawk.

      Note: I've deleted the old RNZAF A-4K Skyhawk Pack for SF2 as this replaces it.

      Enjoy,

      Dan.

    14. Indonesian A-4E & H Skyhawk Pack for Strike Fighters 2

      Indonesian A-4E & H Skyhawk Pack for Strike Fighters 2

      This pack contains nation specific installs of the A-4 E and H model Skyhawk’s used by Indonesia.

      These Aircraft were obtained from the Israeli Air force via the Alpha Project in 1980. They stayed in service until 2003 when they were replaced by two Russian Su-27SK and two Su-30MK. However the Indonesian Air Force is planning to reactivate the A-4 Skyhawks by buying spare parts after the United States ended its weapons and spare part sales embargo. The aircraft made its final flight on 5 August 2005

      Includes 3 different skins: 11 SkU Camo (Tan and Green), 12 SkU Camo (Tan and Blue) & 12 SkU Camo (Tan and Blue) Low-Viz

      Included is a folder called “2005 plus” which if installed will extend the operational years to 2015 with a ‘very_rare’ availability representing the above proposed reactivation.

      These are basically the stock E and H Ahit with skins upgraded for SF2 from the Wings over Timor campaign. Credit goes to Third Wire and the ‘A Team’

      I made this after Wrench released the SF2 Modern Darwin terrain and I wanted some half decent opposition, to go along with some skins I updated for the SU-27SK & F-5, for the Aussie Hornets and Kiwi Skyhawks to do battle with.

      INSTILATION: Drop files in to appropriate folders, override when asked to.

      NOTE: Has only been tested/used in a merged install of ALL SF2 titles but should only require SF2I

      Credit goes to Third wire for the game and A-4 models, Dev A-Team of Capun and CB Productions for permition to use thier modified skins.

    16. F9F-5 Panther for SF2.RAR

      PASKO's, Column5's and Marcello's Grumman F9F-5 Panther.

      All I did was modifying it for use in SF2.

      Changes made:

      1) Changed the pit to the standard A-4B pit.
      2) changed the loadout to weapons available in version of juni SF2 (no EXP or anything added).
      3) Replaced the original skin of VMF-331 by one made by Wrench. This skin fits the plane best. The other skins show gaps along the back of the plane and on the nose. Hope he doesn't mind. I did not ask specific permission to use his skin.
      3) There is an error with LOD3. It shows the nose cone perpendicular to the plane. I solved this by removing lod3.
      4) Animation. Wingfold is active use shift 1.

      That's it. All other credits go to the orignal builders of this beautifull plane.

      The original readme is attached below.

      To install, just drop the files in the '[Drive]:\Users\[name]\Saved Games\ThirdWire\StrikeFighters2'.

    17. North American RF-100A 'Slick Chick'

      North American RF-100A for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2
      This is a very simple mod of the stock North American F-100A to create an RF-100A 'placeholder' until something better comes along.
      You'll need to have Expansion Pack 2 to access the F-100A.
      This little known Cold War warrior today can lay claim to being the world's first supersonic recconnaisance aircraft and I'd encourage you to read what you can about the handful of RF-100A's starting here;
      http://www.spyflight.co.uk/f100.htm
      Now I'm not a 3D modeller so I've done the best I could using MiG-21 recon pods to create the broadly similar shapes seen on the real RF-100A. To get them to load I've classified them as non-jettisonable fuel tanks so don't worry about dropping your tanks on the return dash - your precious wet film will still be there for the CIA boffins to examine. The RF-100A's carried no armament so I've deleted the 20mm cannon and removed the gun smoke but unfortunately the gun troughs are still there but you'll soon forget about that.

      INSTRUCTIONS
      1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the RF-100A folder into your Aircraft folder.
      2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the RF-100A folder into your Decals Folder.
      3. From the WEAPONS folder drag and drop the SLICK_CHICK folder into your Weapons folder.
      That's it!

      CREDITS
      As always, big thanks to Third Wire for the continuous improvement of a great little game/sim.
      A thank you to whoever created the MiG-21 Recon Pod and I hope you don't mind it being used here.
      And, finally, thanks to everyone in the wider Third Wire community.
      Regards
      Spinners

    18. EF-4C Phantom Wild Weasel IV for SF2

      EF-4C Phantom II (Wild Weasel IV)

      -- For FULL-4 Merged SF2 (Prefered) and/or SF2:V =ONLY=!!!

      First off, it should be stated that =ANY= of the SF2 series that have the F-4C_67 in their aircraft list, will be able to use this mod. Check your in-game player-flyable list to be certain.

      This is a semi-major overhaul of the EF-4C as released in 2004, based off the stock F-4C. THIS version uses the stock SF2/2V, etc, F-4C_67 version and accomplishes pretty much the same thing. Almost all decals are from the original version by Crab02, etal. The only new decal is the tailcode/fin color flash, and that one is based of a stock F4SqTail from 3rdWire, redrawn to add the proper squadron ZG code. Loadouts are all stock items, so no weapons pak is even required. The canopy is activated via an animation key; use Shift/0 to open and close.

      Mission statement have been reduced to "SEAD" and "RECON" (although, for a specalized, high value aircraft like this, even RECON is suspect). I was unable to find more information as to if the EF-4Cs were use for anything other than SEAD (unlike the F-105F/Gs, that were sometimes used for regular STRIKE missions)

      As always, READ the enclosed readme for full, detailed instructions. This package has been broken down into the various folders that SF2 needs, to make it a LOT easier to install.

    19. B-47E SF-2 FIX

      B-47E SF-2 FIX

      Hi Folks,
      here isn't a full plane (that You can download at Colum5 here http://www.column5.us/aircraft.shtml)
      but only a fix for removing white crosses and tailfin issue (no material assigned).

      The input came from our friend Gaunt aka Imre, who reported me that noisy bug.

      To complete the SF-2 standard conversion I added the userlist.ini (a very very simple task indeed).

      You have only to put the included folder in you mod/objects/aircraft one and let overwrite.

      This little work is dedicated to original makers of this fantastic plane (very good for an early '50 campaign).

      Enjoy.

    21. Series 1 Kuwaiti A-4KU Skyhawk Updated for Strike Fighters 2

      Kuwaiti A-4KU for Strike Fighters 2

      This is the A-4KU flown by the Kuwait Air force during and leading up to the Gulf War I. It is from the Operation Desert Storm SF1 campaign set and I updated it for SF2 as well as changing some of the data.ini information to more accurately reflect the aircraft.

      NOTE: The original A-4KU uses Strikefighter 1 series LODS so you will have to have WoV to use this aircraft. (I ignorantly didn’t know I wasn’t allowed to include the series 1 LODS in the upload so that’s why I have now removed them)

      Included is an extensive RWR.LST file and RWR.TGA files, a ‘Free Kuwait’ skin and pre invasion skin.

      INSTILATION:

      1,Drop files in to appropriate folders, override when asked to.

      2,Extract the original lod files from WoV ObjectData.cat using the CAT extractor. Following lods: A-4F.LOD, A-4F_lod002.LOD, A-4F_lod003.LOD, A-4F_lod004.LOD, AV-8A_LOD4.LOD & A-4F_lod005.LOD once extracted should go to the A-4KU_Kuwait folder.

      NOTE: Has only been tested/used in a merged install of ALL SF2 titles

      Credit goes to JSF_Aggie for the Operation Desert Storm SF1 campaign the original A-4KU came from.

    22. Top Gun A-4F 'Super Fox' for Strike Fighters 2 UPDATED 27/01/11

      Top Gun A-4F 'Super Fox' for Strike Fighters 2

      UPDATED 27/01/11

      - Correct angled refueling probe added along with a landing light thanks to wilco's mods to my A-4N
      - minor data.ini updates
      - Opening canopy 'shift' + '0'

      This is the modified A-4 Super F used as an Aggressor aircraft by the US Navy Fighter Weapons School (Top Gun) from 74 till 94. The Super F (Super Fox) was the ultimate adversary Skyhawk as it was equipped with updated J52-P-408 engine giving 11,200 pounds of thrust.

      The Super Fox also had its avionics hump and associated equipment stripped reducing its weight and giving it an impressive better than 1:1 thrust-to-weight ratio.

      Other modifications included the wing slats being bolted closed and removal of the cannons. However for the game I have kept the cannons and increased the rounds to 200 per gun (same as the A-4M) to give you a bit more dog fighting time :)

      I have retained the countermeasure dispensers as I couldn’t find any information indicating they were removed but with no ECM or RWR I would advise you to avoid being engaged at beyond visual range haha.

      Included with this aircraft is a Top Gun instuctor pilot skin.

      Best way to enjoy this bird is to set up a guns only dogfight with the mission editor and go head to head with a few Tomcats.

      INSTILATION: Drop files in to appropriate folders, override when asked to.

      NOTE: Has only been tested/used in a merged install of ALL SF2 titles

      Credit goes to column5 for their A-4E Super Echo which gave me the idea and provided a base for the skin.

    23. Lockheed NF-104A for SF2

      Lockheed NF-104A for Strike Fighters 2

      In 1963, three ex-USAF F-104As (56-756, -760, and -762) were taken out of storage at Davis Monthan AFB and modified as NF-104A aerospace training aircraft. All of the military equipment was removed and the original F-104A vertical fin was replaced by the larger fin that was used on the F-104G. The wingspan was increased by four feet (to 25.94 feet) and a set of hydrogen peroxide control thrusters were mounted at the nose, tail, and wingtips. A 6000 pound thrust Rocketdyne LR121/AR-2-NA-1 auxiliary rocket engine was mounted on the tail above the jet exhaust pipe. This rocket engine could be throttled from 3000 to 6000 pounds of thrust, and the burn time was about 105 seconds.

      The first NF-104A was delivered on October 1, 1963, with the other two following a month later. They were operated by the Aerospace Research Pilot School at Edwards AFB, which was commanded at that time by Colonel Charles E. "Chuck" Yeager.

      On December 6, 1963, the first NF-104A set an unofficial world altitude record of 118,860 feet for aircraft taking off under their own power. The official record at that time was 113,829 feet, set by the Mikoyan/Gurevich Ye-66A, an experimental version of the MiG-21 Fishbed. Later, the same NF-104A flown by Major R. W. Smith reached an altitude of 120,800 feet.

      On December 10, 1963, the second NF-104A (56-762), with Chuck Yeager at the controls, went out of control at an altitude of 104,000 feet and fell in a flat spin to 11,000 feet. Yeager managed to eject successfully at that altitude, although he was badly burned on his face by the rocket motor of his ejector seat. The aircraft was destroyed in the ensuing crash. An investigation later showed that the cause of the crash was a spin that resulted from excessive angle of attack and lack of aircraft response. The excessive angle of attack was not caused by pilot input but by a gyroscopic condition set up by the J79 engine spooling after shut down for the rocket-powered zoom climb phase. So it wasn't Chuck's fault.

      In June of 1971, the third NF-104A, with Capt. Howard C. Thompson at the controls, suffered an inflight explosion of its rocket motor. Although Thompson was able to land safely, the aircraft's rocket motor and half its rudder were blown away. Since the program was about to end in any case, this aircraft was retired.

      The number one NF-104A is currently on display on top of a pylon in front of the USAF Test Pilot School.
      -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

      IMPORTANT!!!
      You need SF2E to have the stock F-104G and SFP1 for the cockpit files.
      or follow these precious instructins: http://combatace.com/topic/57393-flyable-f-104s-for-sf2
      Another thing... there are some minor differences between SFP1 and SF2E models and one of these is a bit different mapping on the nose. So it will be included an optional SFP1 f-104_2.bmp file.

      Pilot Notes:

      -The rocket engine is set to use "Thrust vectoring" as a throttle control to permit separate control from the jet engine. The rocket will operate only with afterburning regime and with only 2 stages, half and full power. From idle to military it will not generate thrust and so will not affect fuel consumption.

      -This plane is equipped with hydrogen peroxide Reaction Control System like the real plane. To engage the system simply throttle the rocket a bit over idle.

    24. RAAF CAC Sabre Mk.32 -Version 2

      RAAF CAC Sabre Mk.32 -Version 2.0-

      For SF2 (any and all)

      Note: this version REPLACES any earlier ones in it's entirety!! You should delete your original, if you have it already. As the skins have been changed to jpg, the original bmp format will cause a conflict.

      Some ini modifications and 2 new skins for Zur's Avon-powered Sabre, as used by the RAAF in the 50s-60s.
      The skins are:

      3 Squadron
      77 Squadron

      Serial numbers are historically accurate; with the sources I used I've tried to match aircraft with the squadron served with ... I've come within about 98%; pretty much as far as possible.
      Decal Randomization is set to TRUE for both skins
      For End Users ™ with the Oz Mirage DLC, I've activated the squadron display on the Loadout Screen via my 'fake' sqtail decal.

      Other ini mods added the radar-ranging gunsight, landing lights, etc. Loadouts, however are =NOT= historically correct, due to some LOD issues. (More on that in the "Notes" section). A rather 'generic' SF2 style Sabre hangar screen is included.
      Weapons are =NOT= included - all excepting the drop tank reference stock, in-game items. You can obtain the drop tank in any of the other Sabre Paks or from the Gunny's Weapons Pak.

      As always, READ the enclosed readme for full, detailed instructions. This package has been broken down into the various folders that SF2 needs/requires/should have, to make it a LOT easier to install. Also, as usual, the expected 'Notes and Other Nonesense' comments by me.

      =================
      Changes for Ver 2.0:
      new large format jpg skins
      new SF2 compliant FM
      new sounds
      dds damage textures
      fixed shadow issue

      Happy Landings!!

    25. Lockheed U-2A for SF2

      Lockheed U-2A

      =For SF2 (any and all merge levels)

      *Note: as I'm not fully sure if "Dragon Lady" applies to this early model, I didn't add the name*.

      This is a slight overhaul of Pasko/Column5's Lockheed U-2A recon plane. This is a full aircraft pak, with a modified cockpit. All new serial number decals have been created, historcally accurate for the USAF version, and those discoverable for CIA usage (US civil N-series). Both the original skins (NM and 'dark gray') are included. A new SF2-style hangar screen is included, as is Pasko's "PilotU2" , dressed in the 1950s style pressure suit.

      The flight model feels pretty good in SF2, considering it hasn't been tweeked since 2005, but the aircraft is NOT a fighter, so don't expect massive manuverabililty. Other ini tweek remove some unneeded cockpit bits, add an audio-only RWR (couldn't find any info if A-models had jammer suites), landing lights, and a working Driftsight (ie: downward looking periscope). A destroyed model has also been assigned, for SF2 users.

      As always, =READ= the enclosed readme for full, detailed instructions. This package has been broken down into the various folders that SF2 needs/requires/should have, to make it a LOT easier to install. Also, as usual, the expected 'Notes and Other Nonesense' comments by me.
      You should pay special attention to the "Flying the U-2" sections below, as it explains the use of the 'driftsight' and other things you'll need to know for correctly flying recon missions in this bird.

      It is also highly likely this mod can be used in 1stGen SF/Wo* with minimal adjustments -- as 08 level game also use the /Decals subfolder, this should pose no issue whatsoever. Some data ini adjusment of the landing gear rolling radi may be necessary. Since I don't mod 1stGens anymore, this was not tested.

      And yes, for those that look for such things, there are 2 Easter Eggs in the cockpit (actually, 3, but one seems to have disappeared!).

      Happy Landings!
