2020 Critical Update for every Terrain
Crusader replied to swambast's topic in Mods & Skinning Discussion
The black smoke coming from the chimney... really hot stuff inside !! -
Pilots can have low-res lods (1 or 2 ?), as defined in the pilot's ini. Edit: 2 lods, it seems. Main lod and one low-poly.
-
The 0,0,0 position of Thirdwire stock pilots is the center of the head (visible with lodviewer).

It isnt the AwayImageFilename function. It is the ShowAnyWeapon function added to LCOS section which activates the missile tgas in the cockpit ini Gunsight section. Which is good for 60's sights but not really suited for 70's avionics.

Question re Sparrow&Phoenix failure in SF2:NA
Crusader replied to Flapsfull's topic in General Discussion
He wont change the weapons data, he will shoot with different airspeed/distance/aspect/altitude difference. Thats how I read it. I had two AIM-7E failing (exploding shortly after launch) today during a forward quarter (about 120L aspect) IL-28 intercept at ~5000 ft alt. Tricky business, the early missiles -

With Aurora huh..

Question re Sparrow&Phoenix failure in SF2:NA
Crusader replied to Flapsfull's topic in General Discussion
High aspect and high closure speed is good for AIM-7/-54 shots. Some of the Russian planes have internal chaff dispensers. Another cause for failing missiles. -
ML / MLA There were only about 200 ML aircraft .. still with old gunsight and R-23 missiles. Then came the MLA .. (1100+ aircraft .. cant recall exact #) with better radar, new gunsight and R-24 missiles. And it was this MLA of which export variants were sold to all the many export customers .. Cuba/Angola, Iraq, Syria, NK, East Germany, Czechoslovakia and others. The Russians seem to have never changed public info to "MLA", they continued to use the "ML" designation .. and thats why the many exported aircraft are usually referred to as "ML" when they really are a improved MLA variant. Iraq received one of the last produced MLA batches in '84. The further improved MLD were all (and only) modifications from RuAF MLA's. None of the original ML's were modified.

SF2 Chengdu F-7M Fishbed Series Pak by Mod Mafia/TMF
Crusader replied to Wrench's topic in File Announcements
Dec 2012 to Dec 2019 - this definitive is the "Bump of the Year" -
But see in the comments on the site (by Herman C. Cook III ) : I still believe that the "missile off" comment is by the Connelly/Enwright crew commenting on their wingman's Sparrow shot.

Audio transcript http://fly.historicwings.com/2013/01/splash-two-migs/ " Gypsy 207 Pilot Connelly: “Okay, he’s got a missile off.” " If the transcript is correct... Gypsy 204 has not fired yet...

Audio/video from both incidents exists, for the 1981 incident the audio recorded by USS Biddle (was on the now defunct USS Biddle website but its still on webarchive) And for 1989, there are 2-3 slightly different (runtime) audio/video files on YT and elsewhere. No use of radar by the MiGs in '89 - the F-14 crews never mentioned anything on the tapes referring to the RWR, right.. they surely would have done so in case of radar emissions by the MiGs.

The LAU-88 launcher for AGM-65 could be a better stand-in than the TER.

Black Mamba Viper

The 1981 incident vs the 2 Fitters.. one of them fired an Atoll Only the Tomcat pilots were shooting in '89, according to the incident audio/video (not the version shown above)

Fuel Flow settings (cockpit ini) and fuel usage
Crusader replied to Cliff7600's topic in Mods & Skinning Discussion
Fuel usage.. uhhm it could be Easy - you wont run out of fuel Normal - halfs the fuel consumption Hard - fuel consumption as set in the data Could be that TK had something on that on TW forum And the map size - thats just to make the map/distances to fly smaller/shorter to speed up gameplay.. it has no effect on how the planes function. Yes, Ive done the fuel gauge setup a few times. Ill have to find my notes to be sure, but its like this: The Value= entry is lb (or kg as set by ValueUnit=) per second For example, you have a fuel flow scale with a max flow rate mark of 10000 lb/h To have the entry for the 10000 lb/h mark, you divide 10000 by 60 = lb/h, then again by 60 = lb/s for the Value= Example from TW A-7E cockpit ini [FuelFlowIndicator] Type=FUEL_FLOW_INDICATOR NodeName=needle_fuelflow MovementType=ROTATION_Y ValueUnit=LB Set[01].Position=-222.10 Set[01].Value=0.083 <------------ 300 lb/h Set[02].Position=-15.50 Set[02].Value=1.389 <------------ 5000 lb/h Set[03].Position=46.10 Set[03].Value=4.167 <------------- 15000 lb/h Its a non-linear scale - values set for each range of the scale -
