This i mean with reworking of target areas. This is one point of many. The number of SAM sites is to low, compared with reality of Vietnam War. It were over 200 sites in 1968/69 and more than 300 in 1973. But in reality not all SAM sites were used by the Vietnamese. They moved their SAM batteries between the SAM sites, so that some sites were empty while others were used. If i could "switch on" the active sites by random ..... That would be a nice feature.

Short description: This terrain covers North Vietnam, parts of South Vietnam and Thailand. The timeframe of the terrain is from 1964 to 1979. It is made as a NavalMap so that you can fly carrier missions against North Vietnam. You can fly following missions for the Americans and their allies, the South Vietnamese: SWEEP,CAP,ESCORT,INTERCEPT,STRIKE,SEAD,ANTI_SHIP,RECON,CAS,ARMED_RECON For the North Vietnamese you can fly this missions: CAP,INTERCEPT,RECON DRV 2.1.2 is an updated version of DRV 2.1, which is an update of DRV 2.0, which is a rework of DRV 1.4, a terrain which i made 20 years ago. Update DRV 2.1 reworked the tiling of the terrain reworked the placement of TOD objects on the tiles. removed as many "potholes" in the landscape as possible added the north vietnamese airfield Cat Bi reworked all north vietnamese airfields to gives them a more or less correct layout reworked all american air bases, to give them a more or less correct layout renamed airbase Cam Thy to Tho Xuan renamed airbase Hue to Phu Bai Combat Base added the airfield Da Nang East (Marble Mountain Airfield) reduced the number of SAM sites relocated Gia Lam Airfield from west of Hanoi to east of Hanoi Update DRV 2.1.1 added RSBN Nav System to North Vietnamese airfields added radars to american airfields reworked some coastal tiles removed a fuel truck that parked middle on the runway at Udorn AFB changed the original Sampan boats to GKABS much better looking boats added a new tanker Update DRV 2.1.2 added some fishing ports, with some junks, fuel drums and a little bit Flak added rocks some miles east of Hai Phong solved the "distant mountains" problem, which was graphic glitch that appeared in DRV 2.0 till 2.1.1 reworked the farm-rivermouth tile added Red Crown with CG-16 Leahy class cruiser reworked some Flak batteries ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ II. I will include Udorn in a further update. The DRV 2.0 terrain had in major part the target areas of DRV 1.4. I made only some minor changes. I future i will rework the target areas completly. With the mighty tools we have today it is much easier and faster to do than 20 years ago. -

At the moment i'm working on DRV 2.0 terrain. I promised to release a Beta today, but the real life ..... You know. Shit happens. My wife broke our printer and then she said: "Can you repair it?" That's why the delay. I think tomorrow i will release the Beta. WIP screenshot. Thud near Korat AB. BTW is it possible to connect a ground object in the target areas with a random marker? I ask, because the North Vietnamese had over 200 SAM sites in 1968, but only 50 batteries, which were rotating through the SAM sites. With a random value i could simulate such SAM battery movements. -

So DRV 2.0 looks at the moment: Carrier ops are possible now. The target areas need a completly rework. This terrain is 20 years old now. It is still a lot to do, to bring it to a up to date standard. But i think tomorrow i will release a Beta version. Hopefully CA site is not to slow. If so i will try it on monday again.

The Su-27 is a 40 years old plane. It was made for Cold War. But today it is only useful in the air defence role. It can't survive in areas, which are covered by modern air defence systems. -

SitRep: Most of the tiles are now on the new standard. Still to do are the coastal tiles and the city river tiles. I hope i can do this tomorrow. The problem of my very first terrains are "potholes" in the landscape. To cure this will need some time. But i hope i can release a first Beta version of DRV 2.0 terrain on sunday.

I started a small update of the DRV terrain to bring it on SF2 standard and give it a better tileset. WIP Screenshot shows old and new tiles. The new tiles i have taken from Rio de la Plata terrain. They are basing on Green hell tileset.

Yesterday i was playing with the TFD tool to improve my USAMichigan terrain. My Anti-Virus scanner AVIRA started to a routine quick scan. Suddenly the window of the TFD tool disappeared and a restart of the tool was not possible. I was searching a while till i found the reason. Avira had the opinion, that the TFD tool would be a virus, stopped it immediately and moved it into quarantine. And what i have learned: If i'm working with the TFD tool and the Anti-Virus scanner starts, then i must close TFD as fast as possible.

It is the 170m Shelter. I have moded it a little bit with a hexeditor. In the original file the roof skin should be HangarA-2.bmp or Ind_Roof1.bmp. -
