  1. Actually, that's a really good point. Not a whole lot of sims do have those less thought of greats. Like, how many sims have an F-106, or the Viggen for example. This is part of the reason I dig this sim, there are tonnes of planes to cover most, if not all tastes. But despite the advancements of the leading edge aircraft and the inability of this engine to accomodate some associated technology (like thrust verctoring, like data linking, like stealth at the moment), it's still great to have these aircraft as options (and to be spoiled for choice) and the individuals involved, especially the likes of USAFMTL, Wpnssgt, Fubar et al, all make quality work due to either consumate professionalism or some kind of OC behavior No, seriously, the modders here produce "the sh*t!" And it's always worth the wait!
  2. Fair enough. One thing that I think was been distinctive of Russian aircraft though, is the cramped, ad-hoc style cockpit. Everything is just sort of crammed in there, where ever there is space.
  3. Who said the communists ever left? Ever noticed how the lions share of the filthy rich have inherited their wealth from family members who were once ranking party officials...? Besides, no questions asked 2nd tier weapons exports from a country strapped for cash that is only now recovering from the Soviet collapse is a legitimate business. And that's all it is really, just a modernisation of business practices and shedding some of that old party dogma. There won't be any empire building from Russia since everyone is too aware of what the consequences of that are. They will, however, fight tooth and nail to keep the influence they have over the former satellite states. There was talk about re-integrating Belorus into Russia... Also, FastCargo, the latest variants of Flanker have fully adjustable seats to 25 degrees. It's not quite as comfy as you viper jocks make out, but it's better than those seats built like an L... They're part of the glass cockpit upgrade and with each new production model.
  4. Twobob, let us know how you go. Any troubles, make a post here somewhere and we'll help you out. That goes for anyone, new or old. Don't be backward about coming forward. Until you have a play around with the settings, or try installing new aircraft, or terrain, or any other type of mods, it can seem a little daunting or annoying. But it's a good payoff once you know how to tweak this sim and can then tune it you your own tastes. I agree in that I'd like to see more happening on the ground too. Although I haven't seen the active battlefield in FE (I don't own it, not really a fan of WWI sims) I remember what it was like in Apache Vs Havoc and it was a total blast having a shootout somewhere, RTBing to re-arm/re-fuel and then having to play catch up with the armoured column you were supporting while they push forward. While I do like the current form of ground units, it is a little static which I think can kill replay. Also, what's the word on buildings? Is it possible to add building sat this size (maybe not this dense since it'll chew up the frame rates): One of the things I've always dug about the Ace Combat series was being able to fly breakneck speeds, head height whilst threading my ride through a city. Also, one element of the first Red Baron game I like was having an Ace challange you and you having the option of specifically suiting up or not. It could work well (in terms of immersion) for FE...
  5. Good luck dude! I don't mean for the surgery, that'll go great guns. I'm wishing you luck for cute sexy nurses... Take it easy RoboDave! Good luck nevertheless!
  6. When you said F/A-27, I was thinking... Something similar to its Ace 2 skin: I hear this can be augmented in Ace X...
  7. He's like a man posessed, he's done a bang up job!
  8. But with shock absorbing panels, and the extra space to crumple, it's safer than a Volvo!
  9. K, I understand he's gonna find out who's naughty or nice, but I remember the days when, if you were naughty, all you got was a lump of coal, not a burst from a .50 cal...
  10. I like how you hear the pilot appologise shortly after they all come to Still, those birds are death traps, you'd never ever get me in one! If it's smaller than a LongRanger, then nuh-uh
  11. It should just be a case of simply deleting your main directory. eg If you installed it in "C:\ProgramFiles\Thirdwire\Strike Fighters, just uninstall it and then delete the Thirdwire folder and its contents. A better bet would be to install it to a different place (or a different drive if you have one) and see how it goes from there.
  12. If they're not there, just add these to the bottom of the weaponsdata.ini and make sure they're in sequence. eg, if your last weapon is "weaponsdata1213" then make sure your next entry is "weaponsdata1214" and so on. If the iranian weapons are already there, you'll just have double entries. So when you go to load up, there'll be two entries for the mk82, mk83 etc. By the way, I think WP means warsaw pact.
  13. For me, I still think the F-15 has a hint of the "Brute Force" era (Muscle jets like the Phantom, Mig-25 etc) from which it was born. The Flanker's just a little more asthetically pleasing to me in that it's design was charged with doing what the Eagle does, only better and it shows. Only problem is that this doesn't necessarily help with it's stealthiness. This is why I fell in love with the 37. Watch the sequence from at 1:03 I mean, as thrust vectoring becomes more widely available in modern fighters you'll see more aircraft doing this. Still, I'd never seen anyone throw a fighter around the sky like this... (Just ignore the crappy Sukhoi CG sales stuff)
  14. Don't worry, not even death can keep ol' Cap down... I love my Zombies...
  15. ^^Totally. LOMAC is great is you want to be a faux pilot, the SFP series is great if you don't. I don't want to be a Su-33 pilot, nor do I want to have to learn how to fly it over a month (I get very little personal time these days compared to when I used to be a bum at Uni ). I just want to take one for a joyride, fling one off the Kuznetsov when playing LOMAC but since it's a pretty indepth sim, it's a little unforgiving if you don't want or aren't used to sims with a lot of realism. I agree, you shouldn't really compare the two, it'd be like comparing the Sims and Grand Theft Auto in terms of a "sim-life" style game. IMHO, I think that the SFP series fills that nice but sparse no-mans land between the realistic sim end of the spectrum, and the Ace combat end. If you have a system capable of running it, I'd say give LOMAC a go, it's a very nice sim, especially the mission builder although avoid any copies that require you to install that crap Starforce software as it can cause your system to FUBAR.
  16. Sorry, this won't help at all, but why waste your time with the F-104? (admittedly, the F-104S wasn't too bad, but only after practically redesigning the whole thing!)
  17. Gerald14 was kind enough to make a model, but after that... there's not a whole lot of info.
  18. Dude, you missed Malaysia in that list. I think why folks (like me) were excited about it was that having the Flanker represented finally having one of the two biggest kids on the block. Quite a lot of people are waiting for either the Flanker family and/or the F-22 to have their own showdown. I have to say, I'm a big fan of the airplane and believe it is (or can be) superior to most of the final generation of conventional US fighters, by that, I mean the later generation Flankers (Su-35/37, Su-30 etc). Having been developed and having it's maturation at a later stage has helped it immensely in becoming the future Eagle Killer, not to mention India and China acquiring huge numbers of them. I don't think you can rest your opinion of an aircraft's successes soley on it's combat performances simply because there are a lot of countries that aren't involved in armed conflicts to vett their new aircraft. I mean, if that were the case, the Mig-29 would be the engineering disaster of last century with it's combat record absolutely tanking. Also, ecconomically, this plane is much more feasable for some non-alligned countries since it's unit cost (Approx 38-41mil US for Su-27sk) and training & maintanace packages are much cheaper that US or European counterparts. (even though some russian aircraft can be monsters to maintain) And... there are some bloody annoying vocal Raptor fans out there, and this gives us a chance to shut them up, temporarily. One last thing: Don't forget, the US is also very willing to pull support for it's foreign military sales to place pressure political pressure on governments such as with Pakistan and the F-16A/Bs. I can't quite remember but I think it was over the nuclear testing in 99. Plus US contractors get pretty toey when their technology is sold or distributed to competitors in the industry and Russian ones are still pretty keen for funding and a larger slice of the international market since their industries were denied access for so long.
  19. You know we're in trouble as a race if people ever start killing in the name of Buddha! I think we should just agree to disagree about religion and blame it all on the fundamentalists, any and all of the fundamentalists! Coz lets face it, they don't put the fun into anything!! Abstain from this, worship that, fear the wraith of... etc. Where's the love? A fundamentalist will NEVER shout the first round! Anyways, off topic. Dave, a very nice lady i work with(with that sexy Irish accent too! ) hails from Gaoth Dobhair (used to be called Gweedore?). She game me a link that may explain some Irish history for you, if it helps. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OKBCCDOUS9U
  20. Not quite. The stock Su-27 has a pretty high alpha rating and simply yanking back at the right speed will give you something close to it. Only problem is you'll stall it and you'll need to recover. It's not too dissimilar to the way the J-35 does it...
  21. You gotta loooove that Sylth! The fighter that caught my eye was the FFR-31 Sylphide. That very first opening scene of EP 1 stuck with me the second I saw it. Propably my favoutite furball! What about the Japanese carrier aircraft from ep 3(?) The Eurofighter thingos?
  22. Screw you righties!! Us lefties will rule you all one day soon...
  23. Firstly, I have to ask this, you're played the SF series before, yeah? Is this based on installing it and playing straight away? Have you tried re-installing? Could just be a bad install or a bad patching. I had something similar after re-installing SFG a while ago. As for the rest: Visuals: Have you changed any of the settings in the options? Are you running high quality visuals or low? Have you customised any of the visual options under the \options\graphics tab? As for views, sounds like you're using the F5 chase view, this would explain why it resets to the tail position after a few seconds. Try the F6 freelook mode. Flight: Again, have you changed any of the options in the options\gameplay tab? The realism and elements of the flight model are scalable. If you're playing on easy, then it would seem pretty unrealistic, like the Atari sims... wait, did Atari make sims for the Jaguar?? Sortie: If you're getting bored flying from point to point, I'm guessing you're not using time compression or the "trip skip" functions. I don't recall what "trip skip" is called in the SF series, but for the other games, it's default is alt+N. This takes you from whereever you are, straight into action (so long as you're in flight and high enough). These options should be available in the controls customisation screen. Appologies if I sound condescending, I need a little more detail. I mean, if it's just a case of coming from pretty looking sims like Ace Combat to the SF series... well, there's nothing we can do about that... yet.
  24. Sweet, F-4 AWACS! Haha
  25. Are you talking about Catapulting and trapping (landing)? Or do you mean installing the carriers and operating from them ingame?
