  2. See section 1 here 64 http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?s=&am...st&p=312185
  3. You can only run the latest patch with the correct version of Direct X 9 - assuming your system can handle the later game that is
  4. tbh I thought the over optimistic MiG performance was there to give people more of a challenge so i wasnt too bothered - there are ways to beat them still - but there were some ridiculous things I observed that totally went against everything else Id seen written - so if various test pilots / projects and people who encountered them in combat tell me you had to be superman to turn the thing over a particular speed I would tend to go with that to some degree.
  5. There is a lot of conflicting reports it seems - GV has provided the flight manual (in Russian)- which is going to be fairly accurate - although doesn't mean it wasn't written before some of the other issues were found out in combat I guess! It does confirm that some MiG-17Fs had all boosted controls - but this doesnt eliminate the force and effort required to move the stick at speed - which may explain why slightly built VPAF pilots avoided such encounters. One thing that I suspected was out was the climb performance in which I can go from 2000ft clean (at 400KIAS) to 17000ft in about 24 seconds (~70degree pull up) - the F-4C/D in clean and the same test beats this be maybe 2 seconds ?? The manual and other sources confirm its max climb times as 0 to 16600ft in around 2.1 minutes (clean) see last 2 pages here http://bbs.thirdwire.com/phpBB/viewtopic.p...91&start=88
  6. got to say - great work Dels! - any cockpits much appreciated by all
  7. I had no idea of the Cancer battle he was going through for 18 years!! - a great character and example to others.
  8. You should have noticed the SAMs have different models - the SA-2B and C were always easy to avoid in WOV - but the SA-2F was a bit of a death ray unless you used your "super chaff". It looks like the SA-2F has been toned down (and the chaff) since then but you still need to be careful with the F models. There is an SA-2E now by default although havnt had much dealings with that. From what some Pilots say from that era they were relatively to beat "if you saw them coming" - and quite a few different jamming methods were used in that period which ultimately made them fairly ineffective.
  9. Well could just say thats women for ya :) You are right people over here cant understand - and do take this current social climate for granted. Theres plenty like that in the UK - just don't take it personally - especially if they are obviously that naive to the point they believe the press.
  10. It does but you need a few fixes from a column 5 thread - there have been other threads on this subject so you should find it easily
  11. No it doesnt - Mike Shower in an F-15C (1999 Allied Force) fired 3 at one MiG-29 - 2 fired initially which both failed - so he then fired a third from about 6 miles which hit - not sure which version though.
  12. Kremlin films!! mite have to find me a subtitled version
  13. Well 1 factor no doubt - but if there was more of a threat (particularly in the air ) in the modern wars more tanks would have been jettisoned. Certainly some of the F-15s in 1991 dropped the tanks before firing Sparrows. The Israelis in the 1960s jettisoned their tanks for fun when there was a reported enemy jet nearby according to pilots - and dropped so many it had to be restricted to only when a confirmed Arab jet was sighted due to supplies getting low.
  14. Yes you might be right there :)
  15. Try positioning the pilot http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?showtopic=44033
  16. No but speed, sensors, stealth, range, and payload certainly are ............... One thing it has over the A-10 is that it can get to an emergency a lot quicker - and its quoted weapons load is similar in terms of weight! also over the A-10 it can also be used against a modern IADS (if required)
  17. The F-4 had an IFF system called 'Combat Tree' (APX-81) - used by the US from around 1971 in Nam - the Iranians also used this system in their F-4s and F-14s during the Iran Iraq war. They would ID the target but normally Vis ID before firing according to most accounts
  18. Heres the official version Well, many things you do can affect the campaign. All the static aircraft (fighter and bomber types) are drawn from the campaign squadron, so destroying them would directly reduce the number of aircraft they have available. Similarily, destroying tanks affects the ground units strength. Transport aircraft (both on the ground and in th air) "carry" virtual supply, so their destruction reduce the resupply the unit is set to receive. There are other indirect effects, destroying hangars may also reduce the number of aircraft they have available in the future, and destroying warehouse and fuel tanks also affect their supply status. But these effects are more indirect, and may not be noticable from mission to mission.
  19. The Nov 2008 version of FE should be at the level of the last WOI/WOE etc so should think so.
  20. This is something TK introduced (or became more prevalent) for the Wings Over Israel campaigns - although there has always been intercept missions where the bombers are over the base soon after you get airbourne. When you enter the sim initially there will often be other planes already airborne - what I meant about FE was that planes only spawn on the ground 'after' you have started a mission - as in they dont just appear out of thin air.
  21. Hi there This fix might might sort out number 1 at least: http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?showtopic=44864
