  1. Note the line that 2 of the MiGs are ready - after 20 years!! Iraq seeks Serbian return of MiGs The Iraqi authorities say they are negotiating the return of 19 fighter jets which were sent to the former Yugoslavia in the 1980s for repairs. A defence ministry delegation has gone to Belgrade to discuss bringing the MiG-21s and 23s back into service. A spokesman said the aircraft, whose existence had recently come to light, would be an important addition to Iraq's defence capability. Two of the MiGs were ready for immediate use, a statement said. The statement did not specify how the discovery was made or what condition the other 17 aircraft were in. At the moment Iraq's air force has no jet fighters, only helicopters, and it had been planning to buy 18 F-16 fighters from the US manufacturer Lockheed Martin. It is not known if the discovery of the MiGs will change that. Sanctions and flying restrictions were imposed on Iraq following its 1990 invasion of Kuwait, after which Saddam Hussein's government was unable to repatriate military equipment located abroad. After his government's overthrow in 2003, the Iraqi state collapsed and its army was disbanded by Iraq's US-led occupiers. Baghdad has struggled to rebuild its military capability since then. The Iraqi defence ministry spokesman said four Iraqi navy vessels had also been discovered in Egypt and Italy, as well as "aircraft and equipment in Russia and France". Saddam Hussein co-operated closely with the communist-ruled Yugoslav government and its Serbian successor, led by Slobodan Milosevic. Serbia's defence minister visited Iraq earlier in August and Belgrade has recently signed deals to export hundreds of millions of dollars worth of military equipment to Iraq. 2. They just try and run for it when they hit a bingo fuel state I have found - and become easy targets
  3. Check the weapon service dates and make sure you have put the .lod and .bmp files into the "weapons" folder for the weapons. if they are still not there check section 23 here - ignore the bit about getting the SF2 weps editor - it applies to the one you already have. http://forum.combatace.com/index.php/topic/44026-converting-older-planes-to-work-in-sf2-a-basic-guide-by-migbuster/
  4. Absolute tragedy! - really sad to see another go down
  5. Never seen it - try some basics: 1.If its USB - Unplug the mouse and plug it in again after a few mins 2. Next step would be uninstall mouse drivers and restart the PC 3. Try reinstalling a game DO you have any other bits of hardware that you can use like a mouse that may interfere?
  6. oops - happy belated birthday KB - hope it was good
  7. oo Happy birthday old chap
  8. Some other people have had this issue - TK has suggested downloading a new exe from thirdwire and installing it again. Make sure you are an admin on your PC when you install it.
  9. Ive never seen any actual take off figures for the jets they all differ - but then again the flight models have changed a lot over the years - and it depends what weps load you are carrying also due to the weight. Ideally get airbourne before the wheels fall off - if you dont know where this point is practise taking off in the jet before using it in a campaign. WIth the Harrier for example you can roll to about 50 kts and then vector the nozzles to get airbourne. some jets need 200kts or more. And the figures may change in the future with other changes.
  10. Well its not all bad - they can shell Old Trafford from there
  11. Pah - I've no need for such things so wasn't even looking
  12. AFAIK the only Voodoo actually used in Vietnam was the RF-101C in a recon role RF-101B was used around 1972 - 1975 by the ANG
  13. With series 1: Install game Install latest patch Make COPY of entire game folder eg SFG Rename game folder to SFG_Mod for example Make a shortcut to sfg.exe thats it

  16. Seems a bit slower - but is loading pages in 3 secs still for me on a private broadband line.
  17. Depends on Jet e.g. The F-4C had a manually depressed sight but the F-4D had a lead computing sight according to a book I have - so expect TKs jets to have the correct sight for what they used.(you will notice the difference between the F-4C and D anyway) tbh your gonna be leading things anyway in the heat of battle - things happen a lot faster in jet world. No I dont believe the A-G mode is accurate - just strafe - for a start your jet would need to lock onto the ground target (if it has a ground radar even) - cannon is still an unguided weapon and the shells are affected by the environment as soon as they leave the jet at whatever angle/speed/altitude etc - all probably affects it. For precision weapons - see LGB/Walleye/Maverick
  18. Totally ace
  19. If you want YAP2 get WOV If you bother getting WOV I would recommend a separate install with the older games - SF2V is able to handle the mixing of jets used by countries better However I would recommend SF2:Vietnam instead for....all the bits discussed in previous threads.
  20. Assume this is on single missions what is the last year you can fly in?
  21. totally agree - As all pointless Vs threads - they normally get out of hand too - as long as fact prevails over fiction as much as poss it can still be discussed......maybe.
  22. I have the figure of 105.5 to 0 for F-15s (F-15C Eagle Units in Combat)- guess some may be disputed (think the 0.5 is the Israel HAWK/F-15 MiG-25RB shootdown) The man with links to Iran claims 159 confirmed kills for the F-14A - and the US Navy got 4 was it Vs Libyan Jets. The 159 figure may be optimistic as a lot were pilot accounts - a truthful Iraqi AF losses sheet would be helpful!! That being said there is apparently firm confirmation that 3 F-14s were lost to Iraqi AF fighters - the Mirage F1 received in the last years of the war is said to have made a significant difference - especially to an F-14 fleet going through 8 years of war with a makeshift spares supply.
  23. Guessing that something could do this that or the other is not really a fair assessment - besides a missile or cannon shell would kill either if it hits the right place. If as you say an F-15 lost a wing to a SAM - then it was nothing more than luck. I have some photos of supposed damage to an Iranian F-14A that was hit by an A-A missile that made it back to base "despite extensive damage to both TF-30s" I have photos of a couple of VNAF F-5As surviving SA-7 hits around the engine Nozzles in 1974 that made it back to base - and they look pretty damaged to me, and you would hardly think that was a jet that could take much damage.
  24. hmmm another drawing - wheres the real thing :)
