  1. Hello logan4, That I know, I've seen it many times already. The part about no common sense and development was related to the NK government. I just couldn't help not to find comical, (even their "leader" was laughing) seeing two guys running in squatting position side by side, and one of them carrying some cockpit front panel cardboard while "sighting" the other. I think what might be implied here, is that they might not have the means ( $$$ ) to do much more than these less expensive forms of training in the long run.
  2. One doesn't know if should laugh or cry... from so much laughing. It's sad when a country and society, has no development whatsoever; no common sense; and... no money. Even these guys from LONG ago, had more realistic fighter pilot training...
  3. The same here. Very good skills there.
  4. Impressive aircraft... Although the russian 5th. gen fighters are rapidly evolving I believe this will still be the top "fighter" for some years to come.
  5. Hello, Yes, also have read that in some DACT a Tomcat jockey turned off the engines temporarily, so that the opponent couldn't get a heat-seeker lock on him when they were facing each other, at the begining of the merge. But again, CombatACE forum members; I'm counting on you people, jet fighter enthusiasts, simmers, US jet fighter knowledgeables, everyone, to shed some light on this matter - feel free to say what you think on the F-14A diagram: - do you think there were other modes ? - possibly manual seeker uncage (instead of automatic), in some of them ? Heck, some of my assumptions like : the "seeker moving search pattern" (in SEAM mode) may also imply automatic seeker lock / uncage, come from Fleet Defender manual. Even bearing in mind it was just a PC sim, some info there is quite logical and consistent - can give examples if needed.
  6. Sad news. Well-known here in Portugal. Began to listen his music somewhere in the early / mid 90's when I was a teenager... they were magical times alone. His music greatly contributed to it - impossible to not remember old girlfriends when listening to his music. RIP
  7. I know the several modes / submodes add more confusion in the 1st. diagram ( F-16C and AIM-9 L ), let me explain in example : Slaved to Radar & AIM-9 caged - if Radar lock is lost, the AIM-9 seeker also loses the target. ( AIM-9 seeker was only "looking" at target, pointed by Radar. ) Slaved to Radar & AIM-9 uncaged - if Radar lock is lost, the AIM-9 seeker will stay on target. ( AIM-9 seeker now has true "lock" on target. ) Besides the above stated, in the F-16C, the seeker uncage process can be manual or automatic. I'm trying to establish which and how, of these possibilities were on the F-14A & AIM-9 G, or J models, and their interaction with Boresight (also called "caged" back then), and SEAM modes.
  8. Thank you for your attention guys. 331Killerbee, great deal of information there ! You got me confused: - the "Lima" (AIM-9 L) is supposed to be the 1st. graph (working in the F-16C) ; - i thought the SEAM feature was not available in the Lima ; - G&C stands for "guidance and control" ? Thank you for your time.
  9. Hello everyone, Decided to ask this here at CombatAce, because who better to know about the F-14 Tomcat ? I know this theme might not mean much for many of you, but to everyone who could shed some light on this matter, F-14 avionics, I would really appreciate if you could leave your opinion about the diagrams below. It's of great interest for me to know: How did the old AIM-9 Sidewinders (G or J models) seeker was operated in the F-14A. (Employment modes / procedures.) - Never had Fleet Defender, although I've been consulting the manual; - Aerosoft F-14X is very simplistic yet about the AIM-9 procedures; - On the upcoming Leatherneck's F-14, the forum members don't know much also. So I've done a great deal of research, (streakeagle shared knowledge also), with several people through web forums, from aircraft sim manuals, etc. Most of my guess work on the " F-14A, AIM-9 G employment modes " is attained by comparison and pure speculation. Used mainly BMS Falcon 4.32 (and it's manuals) to establish how an AIM-9 L or M seeker is used, and from there and searching the web, tried to establish how an old variant (AIM-9 G or J) was used in the Tomcat. As a starting point (on the F-16C), I do not refer in the picture to JHMCS, or Radar specific ACM modes - I'm mostly focused on the AIM-9 seeker head behavior / procedures. On the F-16C, AIM-9 L picture, I'm most certain of the options in the diagram I made. It's on the F-14A, AIM-9 G picture I would appreciate your opinion. Pictures reading labels: TD - treshold; seeker automatically uncages if heat signature rises above preset value. BP - bypass; bypass treshold mode, pilot press button to uncage. SEAM - Sidewinder Expanded Acquisition Mode. "auto looking by Radar" only, means that if the AIM-9 seeker isn't uncaged also, it will lose sight of target in case Radar lock is lost. (Although TD and BP modes are part of the F-16 software, doesn't mean they where called exactly like that on the F-14.) Thank you for your time.
  10. Hello, Since one's probably buying several software / sims along the time, it's useful to save a print screen with the email, or online store following info: - product serial number / activation key ; - product download / activation link ; - username e password.
  11. + 1 on it's worth the money. Most things have been said already, and for me: Su-27 and F-15 "Professional Flight Models", are outstanding, very realistic indeed. (Stopped flying LOMAC some 10 years ago, as I felt MiG-29 flight model was somewhat inaccurate, i.e. it was easier to dogfight against a Mirage 2000 flying with the F-15 or Su-27, than the MiG-29). Though the Su-27 is much more realistic as already stated now in FC3. In FC3 there's what I think you call " 6 DOF " in cockpit view now, which I believe didn't exist in LOMAC at first. The terrain / scenario graphics are outstanding too. Also must keep in mind the necessity of a "good" PC, because with the latest graphic quality improvements, it's going to need some processing power.
  12. Hello streakeagle, Currently have FSX:SE uninstalled (nowadays I'm getting more time on DCS), but last year my FSX had: - Aerosoft F-14X ; - VRS TacPack ; - Mile High SIms NAS Miramar (TOPGUN, circa 1986) - outstanding add-on ; To those who appreciate the TOPGUN concept, I've found it very immersive, and flawlessly represented. Since you mentioned San Diego, have you considered trying the ' MHS ' NAS Miramar scenario ?
  13. To be honest on PC sims, sometimes i don't really know where i do draw that line. - updated from Win XP to Win 7 because of SF 2: North Atlantic ; - upgraded basically the entire PC hardware (+ 1000 euro) because of FSX + Aerosoft F-14 X ; - added more RAM memory because of DCS Flaming Cliffs 3 & MiG-21 bis ; Somewhat keep "obsessed" with certain sim features, like avionics missile sights symbology, etc. - particularly about the F-14 and AIM-9 G SEAM mode details. After many research and talking with several members, in this forum and others (StreakEagle and Caesar, for instance), got to understand that: - the particularities of the "SEAM" mode are probably more related with the AIM-9 G itself, than with the F-14. So, regarding the forthcoming DCS / Leatherneck F-14 A/B, already asked on their forum about this and what I concluded is: Nobody knows yet if the discontinued AIM-9 G will be featured... if it doesn't, then probably there would not be the "SEAM mode feature".
  14. Hello. It was Norton as it might well be some other. See post #38 at the link below ( on your AV software, you must exclude your SF2 install and mod folders, and probably the .dll files also) : http://combatace.com/topic/80293-and-so-sf2-decided-to-crash/page-2 Regards
  15. Well, was there (London) many years ago by school. What I best recall is: London Dungeon (if you like horror); Madame Tussaud's; and Guard change at Buckingham Palace.
  16. Yes, and so I did and already used in it's full extent. What I'm saying is, because either: - the AIM-9 L version doesn't have "SEAM" acquisition mode (IIRC is AIM-9 L the one represented in game actually); - the Aerosoft F-14, or the VRS TacPack don't feature the "SEAM" capability either. Anyway, the light is there at the ACM Panel; Nr. 15 " Mode STP (Missile mode selected) ", and the SEAM mode would be a realistic feature to have... bet DCS Leatherneck's F-14 will miss that too. EDIT: The "BRST" light is there but never turn's on, it's always on "NORM" in the Aerosoft F-14X for FSX. On the other hand, on SF2 TMF Tomcats, the BRST light do work.
  17. Well this just goes to show my ignorance in modding, but here it goes anyway. In fact I believe that adding to the Vietnam scenario anything that somewhat resemble's the People's Resistance Park, is one of those details that would greatly add more immersion feeling. (Although Stary's GreenHell already does a lot!) Some couple years ago, I tried JSF Aggies's great Southwest US for SF2, terrain... and in no time I was editing some specific file (I don't recall which type, right now - was on Notepad I believe), in order to orientate buildings and terrain objects to get the former " Naval Air Station Miramar " more resembling like the real thing - and it got quite satisfactory. So my question is: you mention those " STOCK TODs and GH/GH3 " stuff, so it means that re-orienting some buildings & objects position in the ground on Vietnam scenario wouldn't be possible like I did, changing some coordinates on Notepad ?
  18. So far, I bellieve only the AZ and CZ versions are updated already, the others will follow. In the CZ, the new HUD symbols level of detail is outstanding! For CZ (and maybe AZ too) you will need to put the 30mm_DEFA553 guns in the guns folder.
  19. Very good mod - it highly improves the immersion factor on SF 2 ! Thank you.
  20. I'm astonished - it's not always one get to see this level of avionics (i.e. in HUD symbology) high detail and accuracy on a "lite sim" ! One question by the way: doesn't this F1 version has internal guns? Or were they deactivated ? Congratulations!
  21. Ooops... Some hours ago I've just put the EF-2000 (RAF) to enter service 5 years sooner. (However tweaking with the Litening Pod .INI like EricJ recommended, already got me what I wanted.)
  22. Very useful tutorial thank you.
  23. Very useful! Thank you.
  24. Ok I will give that a try, but I don't understand: If the EF-2000_RAF_DATA.ini say's: ServiceStartYear=2005 ServiceEndYear=2030 ExportStartYear=2000 Then why is the Mission Date (at Create Mission menu) locked at year 2000 ? Rather than like other aircraft wich present several different mission dates (years) option ?
