Hi there,

I had a look at my released mods and some of them are outdated and already remade in better quality or are not useful anymore.

I haven't found something to simply delete my old stuff. Do I miss something?

I have used the "hide"-function in the past, as this was the closest I could find, but lately the hidden stuff reappeared without any notification...

We should always use recoverable storage by moving these types of files to the under review section. Deleting kills support threads which  can never be recovered.

As the file owner the proper move is to hide them. The file owner will still see them but they aren't visible to anyone else or for download. They were more correct in this setting/configuration than deleted. Is there a reason you want them to be fully removed or are you just trying to clean up you file list? You are the only one who sees them after hiding. Let me know so I can undo this before it's not reversible.

Thank you.

@Nyghtfall I am successfully hiding files that I decided are outdated. Yes, some of them popped up again after Erik's site shakedown weeks ago. But after cleaning again, all is good. So, hide your files, and trust our staff will take care of it.

The  point is, that I am NOT seeing them after I was hiding them. That was the reason, I reuploaded some of my stuff a while ago, because I had NOT seen them anywhere.

To my surpise A LOT of the hidden stuff was up again lately. A-4- and A-1-templates were now twice in the download-section and the templates for the old OV-10-model and Kuwait-A-4 should simply be gone, because my decision.

If that lead to confusion, I am sorry.

P.S. My trust here is a bit shattered, so yeah...

List them out, like you did above, and we'll "put them someplace safe for storage", and not visible to the General Public (tm)

@Nyghtfall

Let me work down that somewhat toothy reply from the top to the bottom.

  1. As a regular member, read not a modder or staff, you won't see the things that you've hidden even though you can hide them. In most forums regular members don't have this option. The option to hide content is a function of the software, not configurable for your user type, it was something broken in the last update and has been fixed to work correctly. Either way your hidden content is not present on disk, support threads are gone, and history gone.
  2. If it is hidden by you or by us it is not visible to you or any other member in the public so how you saw something that is not visible to your user type is beyond me. Send me a screenshot and I'll dig further if this is otherwise. We do not as a rule delete things because we are a library aimed at preservation, that has always been our goal from day one.
  3. There is no confusion, zero. Provide a list of the files you want removed or just hide them and let me know you've done so and I'll remove them personally.
  4. I'm sorry your trust is a bit shattered, so is mine. We either move on together or mire in the mud, which side of the table are you on? :friends:
  5. If you want greater flexibility over your files get with Wrench and discuss upgrading your member type to Modder.

Please address your concerns back to me so I can handle them personally.

Thank you.

so if any of the rest of us want to clean our rooms of this house, do i understand that its preferred to simply hide them?

and if it is preferred to totally zonk them (preference by site staff not author) do you want to build a list up and handle it all at once or take it case by case?

this thread reminds me that i've redone several of my earliest mods as my skills got better, and it would probablly be a good idea to remove most of my 2012-2014 work

If the files on your File Page are outdated and need to be hidden, you have the ability to hide them. By hiding them it removes them from public view so they can't be downloaded. As a file's author you have that ability. Since our goal is preservation of works like a historical library our last resort should be to delete anything which includes the old files, the support topics, and meta data that goes along with that. If the file has issues and has absolutely no merit in staying then by all means tell us and one of us can remove it. The focus I was after was to give all author's the ability to manage their own files but as the author you will always have control over that file. That means if it's hidden it will still show in your library but it will show as hidden. Think of it this way.

Hidden = File removed to backroom so it can't be downloaded. But this file can updated, changed, renamed, and otherwise edited to be re-released. By doing this it keeps the support topic, revision history, etc intact. In some cases author's have been uploading new files and starting an entire new support thread for different versions, not wrong just a little more messy.

Deleted = File taken to the burn pit and lit on fire with yesterday's latrine buckets.

I'm not a fan of deleting anything, defeats the purpose of preservation which was our goal from day one. If you're thinking of removing items just because you think it's clutter, I'd caution you to think otherwise. Ultimately you have the say over what you want downloaded, so hide the stuff you don't want to be seen and it won't be.
