Guest USNadpc Posted November 9, 2007 Posted November 9, 2007 Britain's Ministry of Defence shows off a prototype helmet for pilots flying the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter. USNadpc Quote
USAAF2 Posted November 9, 2007 Posted November 9, 2007 What are the green lights near the pilot's eyes for? Quote
bucklehead101 Posted November 9, 2007 Posted November 9, 2007 I swear, that has to be the ugliest P.O.S. helmet i've seen! Quote
+JediMaster Posted November 9, 2007 Posted November 9, 2007 As time goes on, the higher tech the helmets are the uglier they get. Quote
+JSF_Aggie Posted November 9, 2007 Posted November 9, 2007 The F-35 has a HMD (helmet mounted display), instead of a HUD. That's were the green lights are coming from. Ugly yes, but far from a POS. Quote
+Typhoid Posted November 9, 2007 Posted November 9, 2007 How heavy is that thing? probably heavy enough to break one's neck at 7g! Quote
+JSF_Aggie Posted November 9, 2007 Posted November 9, 2007 It's much lighter than it looks. I've worn the prototype and it didn't feel awkward or uncomfortable at all. I expected it to feel top heavy, but it did not. It's the only helmet I've worn, so I can't compare it to anything current. Quote
Wolf65 Posted November 9, 2007 Posted November 9, 2007 Well I guess they'd make it as light as possible, I mean you are supposed to wear it for a long time. Quote
+Gr.Viper Posted November 9, 2007 Posted November 9, 2007 Do they come in different "eye" colours? :patsak: Quote
Mannie Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 (edited) Do they come in different "eye" colours? :patsak: Would you go dating one, if the eyes were blue? I think its time for the world to move on to unmaned fighters, or alse who knows what's gonna come out next. Edited November 10, 2007 by MannieB. Quote
+Gr.Viper Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 Would you go dating one, if the eyes were blue? Nah... just thought of an action movie with green-eyed good guys, red-eyed bad guys and some Han-Solo-type yellow-eyed guy who switches to green in the last minute. Quote
Atreides Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 FUGLY ! Was FUGLY before and nice to see it's still F-U-G-L-Y. Personally, I like the EF2000 helmet. Quote
TX3RN0BILL Posted November 12, 2007 Posted November 12, 2007 Now why is it that I got the feeling someone's going to sooner or later add horns to those stubbs? And then paint it red and name it something unholy... Quote
+Gr.Viper Posted November 12, 2007 Posted November 12, 2007 someone's going to sooner or later add horns to those stubbs? Antlers should fit fine too Quote
Guest CW2. Wells Posted November 13, 2007 Posted November 13, 2007 USNadpc I have been looking at this picture for days now, trying to get accustomed to it, but I can't. I am freaked out by it. Eyes are the windows into the soul for me, and to see eyes like that kinda gives me the heby jebies. My wife once got these dark green contact lenses, I couldn't look at her. That just freaked me out too much. So add this helmet to my list of fears, right below the easter bunny and just above clowns. Freaky. Quote
+Fubar512 Posted November 13, 2007 Posted November 13, 2007 Looks like something Darth Maul would have worn while piloting his Sith Fighter. Quote
zagnut Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 Why can't it be cool like a clone trooper helmet or something? Quote
Kodiak Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 Now why is it that I got the feeling someone's going to sooner or later add horns to those stubbs? And then paint it red and name it something unholy... ROFLMAO!!!! Quote
Kodiak Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 If a pilot like that ejects at night and you walk into him with his helmet still on I bet your pants are full of crap LOL! Quote
Falcon161 Posted November 24, 2007 Posted November 24, 2007 ROFL!!! That is the creepiest helmet I've ever seen! Although it would look better if they got rid of the lights illuminating the eyes. Quote
MiGMasher Posted November 25, 2007 Posted November 25, 2007 Looks like a new generation salon hair dryer, complete with the choice of TV in a HUD, Internet browsing, or listening to radio or MP3s. Quote
