Also the pic of Mav on his Dad's shoulders was an-A-4, yet they flew F-4 according to Viper. No F-4 Was ever deployed on an Essex class carrier. The XF4H-1 did carrier suitability tests. No phantom squad was ever based on those ships. I'm done on this.

They should do a prequel instead of a sequel, any serious commitment the Navy had to ACM died with the Tomcat. :tomato: Honestly the mid eighties was the most exiting time at top gun, with the wide variety of aircraft participating

both as aggressors and fleet/reserve aircraft. Now days Naval DACT it is just a bug convention with the occasional harrier or perhaps an air force squadron or two thrown into the mix.

Funny you should say that. I remember reading somewhere that Top Gun was actually conceived as a sequel to An Officer and a Gentleman. I think Jerry Brukheimer (sp?) worked on that movie and had read an article on Top Gun and put 2 and 2 together.

Here's another quote:

Jester: That was some of the best flying I've seen to date - right up to the part where you got killed.

Am I a rivet counter for seeing this film when I was seven and knowing even then that there were 4 catapults??

Reporter: Hey Topper Harley, now that you've killed the bad guy and made the world safe for democracy, what are you going to do to cash in on your new found fame?

Topper Harley: I'm goin' to Disneyland.
