Some decades ago a american pilot said: "Our worst nightmare is a German in a MiG-29."

A German in a F-31 would have been much worser!

What if the 42ECS, which provides USAF personnel to the USN growler squadrons, gained it's own aircraft and deployed to RAF Upper Heyford in homage to it's historic EF-111A deployment..

But of course, that's a what-if because RAF Upper Heyford closed in the early/mid 1990's for redevelopment, and the 42ECS instead became part of the 48FW at RAF Lakenheath...

The squadron joined the other USAF Superhornets units based there, namely 493FS flying the F/A-18E, together with 492Fs and 494FS operating the 2-seat F/A-18F

very awesome! :drinks: i will make the suggestion to adjust the 49ths eagle abit, maybe making the wing take up the rudder and stretching the body and face along to near the front of the tail

and would very much consider doing the units that did historically convert form 106s to Eagles before the active duty FISs got disbanded

@daddyairplanes I have done a few more.....I chose Fighter Interceptor Squadrons which were still active when the ADCOM Tomcats would've came into service around 1975. Here's what I have so far:

2nd and 95th Fighter Interceptor Training Squadrons both at Tyndall AFB, FL starting in 1975 as they needed to train the new Pilots and the GIBs.

For Operational Fighter Interceptor Squadrons, I have the 5th Minot AFB (1976), 48th Langley AFB (1976), 49th at Griffiss AFB (1976), 84th at Castle AFB (1976), and the 318th at McChord AFB (1976).

As you mentioned, I need to rework the 49th FIS tail. Also thinking about moving the U.S. Air Force to the engine intake area and doing a couple of other things.
