When I consider how much money I have spent going to movies that might have entertained me for 2 hours, I don't have a problem with giving TK some more money.

Agreed. I've spent $50 on a meal I wish'd I hadn't ate.. And also, I feel that this is a bit of a "thank you" to TK for all those years of enjoyment. I bought the sims, and then this wonderful community here helped me continue to play those sims for many years past what was probably envisioned. Yes, I know we also say thank you to TK by buying stuff, add-ons, etc..but the community IS small, and I'm guessing he isn't buying Ferraris with the proceeds of Strike Fighters sales. I'm just happy he is taking a glance back at the PC world. I'm convinced he wants to make the best sim he can for the money, and I'm willing to play the lottery with some of my money to maybe help that happen.

I love DCS for what it does, but sometimes I want the relaxed atmosphere of SF2 type sim-play and I don't really see ED heading much in that direction. I have a dozen modules for DCS World that I don't know how to use (and I still love them), whereas I can crank up SF2 and be dropping bombs (and getting shot down) in minutes. I feel it is important to support this type of sim. I get that others may feel another way about it..and that's fair.

And if I can throw in my wish list - VR in Strike Fighters would be INCREDIBLE. Playing in Green Hell and rolling in in my A-6 with flak popping all around me. Heaven. And if I could do that with four or six other people at the same time (MP)..that would be nirvana. I know VR and MP aren't really scheduled for this fund raiser, but I can always dream.

VR implementation may really boost SF2 sales

This may be the last hope for TW

This is what I like with SF2:

If I read an interesting account of a mission over VN (or Israel, or Korea or ...), I can play it in SF2 in 2 clicks

If this fundraiser ends with like 75 people contributing, then I don't think any additions to the game are justified. It is almost like Third Wire improving a game just for their own use. I cant compare it with other game fundraisers or kickstarters, since normally I don't care for them, but in my view this amount of contributers is very, very small. Where are all the potential customers? They can't all be into DCS?

Still, there should be a real desire to at least make SF2 Windows 10 proof, otherwise all the assets and investments from the past become totally unsellable.

If TK wants to sell more SF2, he needs to introduce a "disruption" and VR MAY (I am not even sure of it) be it.

If he does not invest, then the number of player will decrease slowly and SF2 will die, and this si likely what will happen.

Going "open Source" may slow down the phenomenon, but I am not sure it will increase significantly the number of players.

I will keep my old install ... and continue playing it for quite a longtime, but like everybody, I wish it can improve and more people discover this hidden gem.

There is some room for a middle core jet era fighter simulation, but SF2 is not up to date for this.

Would need better nicer terrain, VR and multiplayer (if we compare to heliborne, for instance).

The rest is ok, I think.

Lets turn it around in the extreme: Whatever TK invests or does is of little consequence here. The survey flight sim customers, that were a thing in the 90's, are gone or out of reach. This fundraiser being a measuring tool to make that conclusion, and the measurement is pretty clear on this.

Edit; It should not discourage anyone to at least do a $1 vote, to state one personally cares for those extremely moddable survey flight sims by Third Wire. Despite what the rest of the world is currenly doing.

TK banked everything on the in-game mission editor, the F-14 Tomcat, and the new terrain engine and the dice went snake eyes. The new terrain engine as implemented in Iceland/SF2NA failed to impress me yet took a tremendous amount of time and effort for TK to implement. It wasn't readily supported with clear documentation for modders to make new terrains, which killed a critical aspect in the future of the game. The mission editor was ok, though I was happy with Kreelin's editor.  The F-14 looked and worked very well, yet did not draw the money that might be expected from all the forum chatter about it prior to release. I am surprised he is even trying this go-fund-me as bad SF2 development/profitability went for him.

Now that I've retired money is a bit tighter (I'm still 9 years away from getting state pension) but I'll have this wonderful lite sim to help occupy my time so I've donated.

I asked TK on Facebook, If we could ask for features, here's the answer, so there was hope ( I say "WAS", cause I doubt we could reach the 25k).

If I were TK, I'd open-source the engine under a strict-ish licence, keeping myself as the manager/maintainer and concentrate on selling games based upon it, content for them and let the community do the heavy lifting that I no longer have the financial means to do.

Anyway... I did my part not by contributing to what I consider a ill-managed fundraising campaign, but by buying one more SF2 complete package.

if TK depends on the income to pay his bills he is unlikely to do that - but give him enough funds and if SF2 starts to sell well enough again, it is more that likely he will become motivated to invest more and more of his time on it.

Like others here, I am retired(2 and a half years away from state pension), but have contributed what I could afford, at this time.

Let's hope TK does something that greatly enhances the sim.

TK could do no worse than use that screenshot to advertise the series on his own store.

Cancel that as it is, indeed, from his own store!

      Hi everyone,
I recently got into weapon modding and wanted to edit some missiles.
I went for the Weapons Folder with the Weapons Editor, and some weapons were missing, even tho i can see them and equip them in-game.
I wanted to edit the AA-2D Atoll for my Su-22M3, but there's no AA-2 folder inside Weapons folder, nor inside plane folder, even tho the missile is equippable and i can see it/use it in-game.
Since there's no Atoll folder, i have no idea how is it possible for me to have it in-game, and even less i know on how am i supposed to edit it through Weapons Editor, since i can't select the folder.
I thought it may be a sort of "built-in-game" missile and for this reason not showing in weapons folder (idk i just made an hypothesis).
So i tried using the CAT Extractor, but seems like not working... no matter which CAT file i select, it says "error opening this .CAT file, no files can be extracted", how's that? How do i fix it? Am i doing something wrong?
Thank you in advance for helping me fixing all these issues or helping me find what i'm doing wrong

I am new to this game but I am loving it and the dynamic campaign is amazing. my only and only problem is that planes just dissapear in the distance, literally just dissapear a short distance a way, around 200 - 500 meters away? not too sure but its very off putting and its clearly an issue for gameplay.
I am using Patch July 2013
      Wings over Korea mod
I play on 3840x2160 4K resolution (I'd prefer playing on that) I have extracted the flightengine ini into SF2 Filght folder as well as to the korea folder and made some changes like turned off fade away and increased mesh values, but still to no avail? Anyway to fix this? Its literally the only thing destroying the fun I have with this game.

      Dear friends,
Update 5.202 is live. It brings a lot of new content and improvements in different parts of the sim.
The Battle of Normandy has been expanded to include 9 aircraft instead of the standard 8: Spitfire Mk.IXc, which we released today. As it was a mainstay of the RAF in early 1944, it is a great addition to the career mode during the Normandy period. This addition is retroactive, so all existing owners of Battle of Normandy will get this new bird for free.
The second and last 'long' version of the IAR fighter, I.A.R. 80-B, is also included in this update, which means that IAR-80/81 is officially released. Owners will get two aircraft in the same purchase, the 'short' 80-A and the 'long' 80-B, each with its own set of historical modifications, including fighter/bomber ones, and paint schemes.
In this update we also show some love to our older planes - our engineering team has thoroughly checked and improved the FM of several planes thanks to new historical data found by enthusiasts. P-47 critical AoA and maximum wing lift have been increased and made less stable (please be more careful with the flight stick until you get used to it). All Fw 190-A roll rates have been increased. The P-40 received the 1942 engine modification that allowed it to run on emergency power for a longer period thanks to reinforced ball bearings. WW1 aircraft shaking from damage is reduced and visible damage is tuned to better match actual damage. We were also able to add manual fuel gauges to more aircraft: all Il-2s, all Fw 190-A series, all He 111s, Ju 87, and I-16.
These FM improvements are even more enjoyable because the control mapping process has been streamlined: not only can you search for an assigned command by pressing a button on your control device or entering the command name, but many new on/off commands have been added to assign them to HOTAS switches - parking brakes, engine superchargers, cockpit open/close, bomb bay doors, air brakes, Ju 87 siren, individual engine propeller feathering, etc.
There are also many improvements to mission generation. Flying Circus pilots get their own Advanced Quick Mission Generator on the Western Front WWI map, which was previously only available on WWII maps. There are several improvements to the career mode: the flight altitude over the Western Front during WWII is higher than on the Eastern Front, 12-13,000 feet, and there is a new mission type, Airfield Defense (see other changes below). AI pilots should now generally do a better job of attacking head-on. The historical campaign Lightning Strikes has been heavily reworked and improved, and there are fixes for the Ten Days of Autumn and Steel Birds campaigns.
New experimental mission editor features mentioned in our last DD are also in - to enable them, you can add the line full_editor = 1 to the [SYSTEM] part of the data\startup.cfg file. Changes you make to water and forest maps in the editor will be visible in the game in Mods On mode. The landscape change menu will also be accessible, but it's intended for enthusiast teams working on the new maps (a map with a changed landscape will not load in the game in Mods On mode and will cause an error during loading).
All in all, we have done our best to include something nice for everyone in this update, and we hope you enjoy it!
      See you in the skies!
      5.202 Changelist
The Romanian I.A.R.80/81 fighter is available in both variants (short and long) for all owners of the corresponding Collector Planes kit; British Spitfire Mk.IXc fighter is available for all owners of Battle of Normandy; Advanced Quick Mission mode has been added to the Western Front WWI map for owners of any Flying Circus module; A search by command name and assigned key/axis has been added to the control mapping settings; For easy assignment of HOTAS toggle switches, several cyclic commands are duplicated as separate on/off commands: bomb fuses, bomb bay doors, air brakes, Ju 87 siren, engine superchargers, canopy open/close, all propeller feathering, specific engine propeller feathering, tail wheel lock, and parking brakes; P-47: updated FM, reduced stability margin to better match historical data, increased maximum wing lift and critical angle of attack; P-40: added "Engine V-17190-39 (1942)" modification to reflect improvements in engine design that increased the allowable operating time at emergency modes; Fw-190 A-series: roll rate brought to historical values (increased); Fuel gauge switch control is implemented on all IL-2s, I-16, all Fw 190-A series, all He 111s and Ju-87; Career: the altitude of intercepting and escorting bombers in Rheinland and Normandy careers has been increased to 4000-4500 meters; Corrected the visual display of damage and reduced shaking when WWI airplanes are damaged; IAR 80/81: its unique bomb control system has been improved to better match the historical prototype - in the bomb drop mode the bombs are released by the main trigger (command "fire all guns"); Career: updated Airfield Defense mission; Career: Spitfire Mk.XIV fighters in Rheinland career are equipped with E-wing (two 12.7mm instead of four 7.7mm machine guns); Fixed a problem with AI pilots pulling away from a frontal attack too early; Improved routine for detecting an enemy attacking a group of AI planes from blind spots; Fixed a problem with AI gunners aiming in tanks with coaxial machine guns; Experimental features for editing water and forest maps have been added to the editor: to enable them you can add the line full_editor = 1 to the [SYSTEM] part of the data\startup.cfg file. Water and forest map changes you make in the editor will be visible in the game in Mods On mode. The landscape change menu will be also accessible, but it is intended for enthusiast teams who are working on the new maps (an existing map with an altered landscape won't load in the game in Mods On mode and will result in an error during loading). Career: in the transport escort missions for the Eastern Front career, the front line has been restored; Career: fighter-bombers have been added as targets in the Attack Intercept and Attack Escort missions; Career: Fixed rocket launches in the air without gaining the right altitude in Assault Escort missions; Career: fixed very long attack of a target by attacking aircraft on the runway for Attack Escort missions with start on the runway; Career: for Transport Escort missions for Eastern Front careers, fixed smoke hanging in the air that should be on the ground; Career: redesigned the template for escorting transports that bring cargo to the airfield instead of dropping it on parachute containers, fixed a bug with escorted transports not being able to land; Career: Fixed early scoring of mission success when the plane has not even reached its airfield yet; Career: Fixed takeoff at Malye Chapurniki airfield on Stalingrad map; Career: Added a new engine for AI P-40 fighters in Stalingrad and Kuban careers; Western Front" map: fixed takeoff at Braizieux airfield; Updated "Lightning Strikes" campaign; Added sound for all La and LaGG on the release of the bomb drop button; On La-5F and La-5FN, changed the limitation of camera downward movement when the canopy is open; IAR 80/81: Bomb racks removed from fighter modifications; Fw-190 (all): corrected animation of cockpit canopy opening handle; Ju 88 C-6: fixed a bug displaying one of the bombs in the bomb bay; Several popular multiplayer servers have their icons in the server list (please contact our Community Manager if you want to assign one to your server); Small fixes have been made to the "10 Days of Autumn" and "Steel Birds" campaigns; Improved air behavior of parachute containers and Ar 234 rocket boosters; Fixed a problem with artillery gun crews when repairing them by MCU Command: Damage.

      Hi,
after seeing the TMF F-14 has wrong and inaccurate speed and fuel indicators, i found out the default Third Wire F-14 has working and accurate ones, but i dont wanna use it cause the TMF Tomcat is better and the cockpit too more realistic too, so can you switch the speed and fuel indicators on the TMF F-14 with the default Third Wire F-14? And for fuel too? Do you need to 3D model and/or do something else other than edit some text files?
And is it or it's not possible to do?
Down here are 2 pictures from the correct cockpit in the default Third Wire F-14:

And 2 from the TMF F-14 (the inaccurate one):

      Thanks for helping.

      Hi everyone,
I was wondering how to customize the numbers after your callsigns, since it always gives me the same ones.
I think i managed somehow once, a bit of time ago, but now i forgot and have no idea how to.
I'm not talking about how to customize the callsign name, but the unit number after it.
As you can see in the Roster and in the picture under, i get "Fast Eagle 1-1" and "Fast Eagle 1-2"
      Here are some examples:

The numbers on the tail, wing and nose numbers are customized, cause i managed how to change them, choosing them individually for each unit in the mission file by changing "AircraftNumber=" and typing the number, like "2" (as for 202). It doesn't change by typing the whole number tho, like 202 by typing 202, but it goes by typing the number that corresponds to the list of numbers you have. For example, In a list that goes from 200 to 400, you will have to type 10 to get 300. Here i just typed "2" and "7" since the list starts from 200

IIRC, in the past i just used to type the Aircaft number just like that, and in-game i had the proper number after the callsign, like "Fast Eagle 102", not just the number displayed on the plane livery.
How do i do? I'm pretty sure that it's possible to have "Fast Eagle 102" on my screen HUD and in the Roster
Thanks in advance for helping me.
