+Sundowner Posted September 8, 2024 Posted September 8, 2024 I've found exactly the same type of things with the F-4B/C/D and all the RF4's, so many tiny little things that you dont realise are out of place or shape until you start to go into greater resolution skins..........are they worth correcting is a hard debate as everybody has been happy with the old poor but good enough models for all these years. Very few folks really know how much time it take to make the "small" fixes in max so personally I only make them because I want to make them for myself......time permitting. In the current climate everybody only seems pure "eye candy" and "historically accurate" in markings only type stuff. This is not a dig at DA or any one else as they are doing a great job of polishing the turd as the saying goes. 3 Quote

+ravenclaw_007 Posted September 8, 2024 Author Posted September 8, 2024 got it done , vents are moved forward front gear door changed and the landing gear has a new position and since i have now more space in the nose gear well i adjusted the the max travel of the damper and changed the animation for it , so now for the first time we have a fully extendet nose gear that was not possible due to the position of the nose gear before i had to change some entrys in the data.ini because the nose gear was hanging in the air but after adjusting the stroke length value everything works fine and the bonus a now fully extendet nose gear and now i´m going to enjoy the rest of the sunday evening 7 1 Quote
+ravenclaw_007 Posted September 18, 2024 Author Posted September 18, 2024 (edited) new textures for the AN/ALE-40 chaff / flare dispenser i decided to make the canopy part new , the old one was to edgy and did not look good with the rest of the aircraft old and new the panel lines on the front fuselage are almost done only some minor things are missing but it seams that i have some problem with the mapping , when i started to add the screws to the front fuselage i notice that on some parts of the front fuselage the screws appear larger then on the rest of the front fuselage , the screws on the template have the size of 5 pixels , so to make them smaller is almost impossible , dont know what to do with that mapping problem the new canopy section i mapped now for the 6th time and i´m still not happy maybe i have to let it like it is for the mean time until i find a way to fix this the top rear mirror is new , the mirror has the correct position now and is moving together with the rear canopy the mirror itself is slanted and a bit back in the housing like the original , the cockpit has some new textures as well making this new 4096 x 4096 templates is very time consuming and with each detail i add i get a new surprising result on the aircraft , mostly a very unpleasant surprise that needs a long time to fix and in some cases i even cant find a solution to the problem i just hope that all the work is worth doing one thing i did not expect was that i had to change or remodel so many 3d parts of the aircraft so the overall look is better and i´m scared like hell by just thinking that the wings are next and what surprises they have for me Edited September 18, 2024 by ravenclaw_007 10 1 Quote

EricJ Posted September 18, 2024 Posted September 18, 2024 I mean I think it's looking good, but I understand the need for it to look right, but looking good man... 1 Quote
+swambast Posted September 18, 2024 Posted September 18, 2024 Volker, absolutely looks outstanding. I thoroughly enjoy seeing artist's work with so much love and care and attention to details. It is surprising sometimes how "high-res" textures don't take advantage of the space available to properly craft the details and instead blob out "rivets", decals, etc. when so much more artistry can be applied. I've had the extreme privilege of partnering with a few rare masterful painters like this (working on some current projects right now) and it is a true joy - keep up the wonderful work. 2 1 Quote
+ravenclaw_007 Posted May 25 Author Posted May 25 update on the early F-4G templates still working on the lower side , still a lot to do , i had to make a lot of changes on the existing 3d model to get it look like the real F-4G , it will be a nightmare to transfer all this changes to the F-4E and F-4F will see how i can do that without getting nuts problem is to find good quality pictures of the lower side 12 Quote

EricJ Posted June 14 Posted June 14 You know what's going to happen ravenclaw is that I'm gonna ask to be a moderator, and "punish" you with warning points because you're dragging ass on allowing us to download these aircraft. Seriously the latest shots in the Screenshots Topic are just beautiful. 1 1 1 Quote
+ravenclaw_007 Posted June 15 Author Posted June 15 (edited) some more details that i added /changed on the new model no more gap between wing and flaps , aileron arresting hook actuator piston some arresting hook and lower tail details new canopy`s with hinge new air refueling receptacle nose gear front door is now linked with 2 strut´s to the nose gear , still a lot of work on this whole nose gear section still so much work to do , currently i´m reworking the front gear well and adding much more details to the templates still thinking what to do with the engine nozzles , i would like to make them more in 3D but maybe i´m just adding new textures i´m planning to add specular map´s but i don't have any experience with this kind of maps , will see how what i can come up with , the bump map´s will be no problem i hope Edited June 15 by ravenclaw_007 4 2 Quote

Wrench Posted June 15 Posted June 15 I cannot believe those stencils are actually legable!! You can read every word!!! Fantastic Detail!!! (tm) 1 Quote
+Sundowner Posted June 15 Posted June 15 These are the only pictures I've found so far....not much different to what you have.. Also it might be worth me mentioning that the top edge of the flap/aileron join has a small curve to it, most folks miss it out when modelling but it's definitely there. 1 1 Quote
+ravenclaw_007 Posted July 18 Author Posted July 18 some update on the 3D model and the texture i added a new 370 gallon drop tank with more details and a new pylon for it i added anew LAU-7A launch rail with the correct length and more details new outer wing weapons pylon new inner wing pylon new 600 gallon drop tank ( nestable ) , i also have the welded version , the welded version will be used on early F-4E´s the nestable version on the mid to later F-4E´s and early F-4G´s the lod has now 9.34 MB , and i´m not yet done so the lod will further increase in size pictures where taken over a version from Rent´s Germany terrain , so far i dont have any problems may be a small hit on the FPS but no stutter or freezing what surprises me a lot given of the lod size , especially since i have been warned not to create lod´s with a large size and that since the beginning of my modding for SF2 given the fact that i´m still on an old computer , win-7 64 bit with 32 GB ram and an i7-4790k CPU and a RTX 3060 graphics card with 12 MB ram , i begin to wonder what are the limits with regard to lod size and large textures especially with new more powerful computers and graphic cards 6 1 Quote
EricJ Posted July 18 Posted July 18 I'm the type of person who suggests getting a new computer, but if you can crank out beautiful details like that, then why bother? 1 Quote

yakarov79 Posted July 18 Posted July 18 Things are getting hairy the moment you have several different high-quality models with hi-res textures...on some crazy big terrain. But still, this new update looks lovely. Worth even flying solo.. 1 Quote
+ravenclaw_007 Posted July 21 Author Posted July 21 (edited) i wanted to make the engine nozzle as 3D part but i was running in to problems with the fuselage and the lod size would increase to much , so i decided to just change the texture and make some minor changes like adding the inner nozzle and deepen the after burner area to the corecr size thats how they look like now this is the best i could come up with right now , maybe in the future i will get the 3d nozzle working like i want to and added to the aircraft Edited July 21 by ravenclaw_007 12 Quote
