thanks for the responses guys. i guess i could do different installs for the different terrians and eras im working with like an attempt at a WOE 1948 with the B-29 and F-80s. as for the SoCal thanks for the tip Baltika. I downloaded SoCal specifically cause my wife is from San Diego and want to see if she pays attn when i blast outta Miramar in a Phantom or Tomcat(prob not). and Silverbolt as for the wingmen been there done that with the screaming. I guess i get to see Darwin in action thanks again for the responses guys. now i just gotta figure out how to redo Europe WW2 so its set in the late 40's early 50's and im fighting russians not nazis

ok i have a few questions bout some of the terrains out there as used in SF2 series. 1 is there a limit to how many terrians one can load in the mods folder without compromising game performance? 2 downloaded Wrench's Southern California terrian and it kicks ass for fighting. However i was wondering if there was a way to convert it to more like real life so i can run training and testing there instead of getting smoked by zues23's 10 miles from home plate or should i have d/l anearlier version for that? 3 is there any way to change the FM's on the AI birds to compensate for mountains? i have been finding my self losing wingmen quite a bit to mountainsides since downloading that terrain. might not help that i like flyin in the weeds and rocks. those pesky migs and sams dont seem to like it there but niether do wingmen. also have a question bout the ww2 europe terrain but want to do a bit more research before i ask and get told to look in the KB as always thanks for the help

it could be something to do with being across the atlantic. i have screwy download situations and times all the time and i'm deployed to afghanistan. as for the speed dunno what to tell you im always runnin 12-15 kb every download. the moderators aare the ones whom you need to talk to the most here. -

A question about thirdwire version specific mods.

im interested in the game specific mod issue myself. i wont be getting SF2I until i get home in jan or feb and honestly have no plans to get SF2 or V. i know blasphemy but im more into the war that coulda been in western europe. however im already seeing aircraft specifically for SF2I and wonder if they would work in SF2E. if i understand right the mods for earlier releases will work but what about later releases? -

are you looking in the main directory or in the saved games folder?the one in users/(username)/savedgames/thirdwire/SF2I ? 2nd Gen saves different than 1st Gen if the saved folder aint there should be able to make one. also check the options.ini see that mods are enabled. just thought of that. hope it helps. -

not a prob. but Pave Tack!?!?!?!?!?! what are ya flying? pave tack was only flown on F-4s as an external pod and F-111s mounted in the bomb bay. it is big enough most phantom crews referred to it as pave drag. i would stick to the pave spike which was small enough to be mounted in the sparrow bay of a phantom with an adapter.

check the data.ini of the aircraft and the pave spike pod its self. if the aircraft was not cleared for designating pods or pave spike was not cleared for export in the campaign year then it will not show. once those are set straight then adjust the aircrafts loadout.ini and it will show in your loadout screen.

is pave spike available for the aircraft? first you may want to check the data.ini for the aircraft and the availble years for pave spike and export of pave spike in its data ini. historically i dont think we released it for export until 1990 and am pretty sure we didnt sell any to the canadians. however check those two items first and if they are availble add to the loadout.ini for the aircraft. that will make it availble to the squadron(they wouldnt stock anything they couldnt use)

@the folks talkin torrent: if your a cheap a$$(like me) participate more often your status will move up and you can d/l more @ all with low end systems: putting settings on low for everything related to the ground will have single missions running almost as smooth as normal. for some reason campaigns are a crapshoot some have decent framerate others OMFG! (talkin 1.9 and 12!) tried it with takin the terrian folder straight out. it didnt crash Dave but it was neglible results and germany is ssoooooooooo purty in the fall other than that it kicks a$$ guys. @dave and fubar512: the F-15C FM aint that unrealistic. got bounced on take off in 2009 by Su35s from 15 miles out. 3 times tryin the mission and i could only avoid the first 11 missle trails coming in the 12th within 30 seconds always seemed to get me. of course that was SF2E not my dedicated Nato Fighters install at the community: 6.95 a month huh? when i get back and can stop my wife from SPENDING gotta drop a couple of months down there. least i can do given how ya'll tolerate me heh heh heh and finally to all: have a great rest of ya day its b-day night here im going to the dutch mwr gettin near drunk on near heineken

it's 235 in the am here. 4 test flights looks great so far. @ Dave left the medium and high detail folders out of the terrian mods folder. played with settings some. 2 flights at 3 and 15frames one with all settings low at the highest ive ever seen 25 and 60. with everything but object and ground object set to low last flight bout normal. and was that a Frogfoot I saw in the list of single planes? well for 40 min of checking that it works it looks damn good. cant wait til im off duty tommorw and kick off a few campaigns. an excellent birthday present thanks to all that made this happen.

Squadrons and SQTail tga's

again thanks for the tips wrench. i believe the flight folder is where the squadronlist.ini is gonna go since thats where i got the cat file from. but i pulled a copy out a month and a half ago and dont quite remember. i just wanted to make sure changing the established squadrons wouldn't affect the game too much but reading the squadronlist for NF4+ it seems all should be in order. as for the slimers i figure i'll hunt around what i have and put in the appropriate ini edit and tgas. bout like i've been doing on the European 1 and SEA Wraparounds here! would like to have something to share with all eventually but may hafta wait til i get home in january. thank you again for your help. now will hafta postpone work starting tomorrow when everything for NF4+ is finally downloaded! -
still downloading hours later waiting on aircraft folder 1 right now. while im waiting Dave i see four seasons in the Terrain file. how well will it work if i have to take it out? ive tried just Four Seasons before on my install and framerates went to 4-5 graphics and 20-25 game even with advanced shader set to 1 and d3d9.dll and d3dx9_31.dll in my flight folder. with out i usually have 12-15 graphics and 35-50 game fps. im gonna try it out with but like i asked how well will it work if i feel i have to run stock terrian? and whats this bout new planes?

Squadrons and SQTail tga's

thanks for the tip on decal level! tho not quite what i was asking it did make them look better. on that topic i wonder if the squadron markings are set to 0 then if im trying to add formation lights also i would set the decal level for that to 1 or 2 to make sure its above the lettering? also how advisable is it to adapt the squadronlist.ini(saved in the Mod Folder of course not the system)? i am more into the wars that could have been in Western Europe and have no plans to get SF2V but notice many of the squadrons listed are vietnam based units. give the squadron/tga relationship i am thinking of changing up the list to represent more european based squadrons and stateside and gaurd units that would bolster NATO. so long as the modded tga's stay in a folder available for that skin and the squadronlist stays in the mod folder i cant see a prob but would like a second opinion before i start tinkering -
what controls the tailcodes used by the squadrons? would i be correct in assuming that the squadron number xxx in the squadron list.ini matches up with the corresponding (aircraft)_SqTailL(or R) xxx in the decals folder? i have been working on using stock tga.s and bmps from WOE to make some of the historical schemes for Phantoms in SF2E. i'm using gimp to change up the color and in the case of Seymour Johnson based birds the letters of the stock tga and then saving them in a folder with the decal ini looking for F-4D_75/Euro1/D/F4_SqTailL instead of the stock tailL. that way all codes are in one folder instead of many skins for the same scheme. it got me to wondering how the tgas are assigned in stock tho. appreciate any input on this guys. btw i know the tanks are wrong on the vietnam wraparound it was late when i took the screenshot and i hadnt put the proper painted tanks in the folder yet

@ eject the uncommented lines are the ones that work not the commented(//xxxxx.ini). they get commented for quick and easy change up as i understand it. that set me straight for therunways the game was looking for files in the desert terrian which i dont have.(SF2E only here) as for the trees i had noticed the same thing one time flying from an enemy airbase. was trying out the Il-76 and thought i had started in the forest! i have not noticed this with the friendly airbases and dont fly red air too often. myself i think this is a kicska$$ terrian and find myself doing my skin and WOE to SF2E conversion testing in the terrian since i got it working. hmm 3 months left here good time to figure out how to create a campaign maybe? hehehe -
welcome to combatace! as caesar said your member status has to do with your participation. theres alot of interesting topics going on in the forums always in addition to the downloads. plus when you run into problems in game the folks round here are very helpful at helping you figure it out, as long as you try to find the answer in the knowledge basse first! like with the military rank has its priviledge and the more you participate within the site the more you will be able to download. enjoy your time with us.

curious since i have a similiar issue what about skins like the Euro 1 skins in WOE and transfering them to SF2E? im doing a project for mine with taking those skins transfering them and turning th tail codes and nums black for an accurate Euro 1 scheme in my SF2E with any appropriate unit. would that not be uploadable when im done? im not messing with the LODs just the bmp's and tga's

i appreciate your quick response. it was how i was saving the files in GIMP. i was doing how i do for ini changes x'ing out the box (yes bill gates i would like to save my changes) but when i went in and saved as tho little longer to do it actually worked. now i just hafta find the tail num's and do the same(dont tell me where they are thatll take some of the fun and learning outta it ) thank you much

well yet another question from yours truly. i copied the Euro 1 skins over from WOE to the F-4E_78 folder in SF2E. i was trying however to change the markings to low viz instead of the Vietnam era higher viz markings used. i was successful in turning the national insignia over (insigniaLV) but not so with the tail codes. i took the stock tga's from WOE used gimp to fill the letters in black then copied them to a folder to use as a decal folder for the particular F-4. i then changed that skins decal,ini to read F-4E_78\Euro1\D\F4_Sq_TailR etc as appropriate. however my markings are still showing as white. is there something i am missing here? also another thought i had would it be easier for me to use the F-15s codes instead and make the appropriate ini edit? i can make this work i plan to then change up euro 1 into SEA Wraparound since the main chainge was replacing the tan with grey. oh and i have the F-4 skin pack 6 that has euro 1 for the F-4C and D, but the markings are on the skin not decals. also i looked at the KB tutorial on making a new one but couldnt quite figure out how to apply it to changing an existing decal
