  1. I went through this when I upgraded to Windows 7. Installing a lower version of DirectX does not affect how the higher version runs. The avatars want to be square, so your Hurricane is being smashed from a rectangle into a square. Try adding some white space to the top and bottom of the image to make it a square.
  2. The level of detail is outstanding. Nice work!
  3. I agree with Ojcar, the cockpit is... Wow!
  4. The Japanese seaplane tender looks great! I'm glad that you could find another use for some of my ships. I like that FE and SF are so modular.
  5. Thanks for your work on this. A nice addition to First Eagles! I'm discovering that taking off and landing on water is a very different experience. Nice work ojcar!
  6. The RAF BE 2c, with v-strut landing gear, staggered wings, cut out in the upper wing, bump on the vertical stabilizer, and sump under the engine. The model is pretty much done. I'm still tweaking the rigging for the animations and linking. I still have the unwrapping for the skinning, the cockpit, the LODs, and entering all the model data into the FM. So I'm probably about half done. The gunner won't move past the struts, but I continued the gun rail and will include instructions for making him rotate in a wider arc. I tried a lot of different things and this is the best solution I could find. The rails on the side sort of look like a swivel mount. I'm planning to make another version with no gunner that can be used as a one man bomber.
  7. Thanks, got em.
  8. Well, it's flattering to be wanted. But it does get frustrating when I see long lists of "here's what I want." I'm simply not going to be able to get to them all. Priority is going to the people who have been helpful to me. As I said before, if you really want your plane, help me do the research. Right now I'm looking for photos of the cockpit of the RAF BE2c. I've spent days searching the internet and only turned up one or two photos. Any help you can offer will be appreciated.
  9. I saw the camo scheme on a plastic model during an internet search. I have no idea if it's historical, but I liked it so I used it. Purists in the community probably shouldn't use it.
  10. ojcar - I'm looking forward to the campaign. You refer to the "standard two weeks"? Hansa - It does need to be a separate install because it's really the stock FE using different ground objects, the two will get mixed up if they aren't separated.
  11. I have uploaded the Hanriot HD.2, a float version of the Hanriot HD.1. The download includes two skins and a set of decals. My thanks to ojcar for making the data file and for providing resources for the plane. My thanks also to Nix for the engine sound.
  12. View File Hanriot HD.2 The Hanriot HD.2 was a French, single seat float plane version of the Hanriot HD.1. It had a larger tail, shorter wings, and mounted 2 Vickers machine guns. It was used by the French as an interceptor, defending seaplane bases, and as an escort for reconnaissance planes. Since it's a float plane, the Hanriot HD.2 works best in the North Sea terrain, or in Flanders, Gibraltar or other terrain that has a lot of water. The plane will actually take off and land from a conventional airfield, but it looks strange to see the floats going under the ground. I have included two skins, a generic linen skin and a 4 color camo skin. The camo skin may be fictitious and uses the French 4 color camo pattern, but with blue and grey colors instead of greens and browns. I have included a set of decals. My skinning templates are included with the download. Credits Thanks to Ojcar for making the data file for the Hanriot HD.2 and for providing information for the cockpit. Thanks to Nix for providing the sound for the engine. Installation Instructions For FE1 - Unzip the file and move the folder named "HanriotHD2" into the FirstEagles/Objects/Aircraft folder. You also need to move the sound file "clerget9b2m2.wav" into the FirstEagles/Sounds folder. For FE2 - Unzip the file and move the folder named "HanriotHD2" into the FirstEagles/Objects/Aircraft folder. Then in the FirstEagles/Objects/Decals folder, create new folder named "HanriotHD2". Move the folder named "D" from the Aircraft/HanriotHD2 folder into the Decals/HanriotHD2 folder you just made. You also need to move the sound file "clerget9b2m2.wav" into the FirstEagles/Sounds folder. Submitter Stephen1918 Submitted 06/14/2013 Category Other Entente Aircraft

  14. Thanks for catching that ojcar. I have uploaded a new version which includes all the files (I'm pretty sure.) Maybe it's time for me to retire...
  15. I have uploaded the North Sea Terrain for First Eagles. Ojcar did a lot of work on testing and modding the terrain to make sure it will play in FE1 and FE2. Everything you need except the planes are included in the download. Ojcar's AI flyable airships are also included. This was made so I would have a place to fly my seaplanes. It's reasonably realistic, but it isn't intended to be historical. The ships are all generic and some of the ship names are fictitious.

It's realistic, but not historical. The ships are all generic. I didn't attempt to recreate actual ships, but the types are similar to World War I era ships. All nations have the same ships, but with different flags and skins. My intention was to make it look reasonable from the cockpit. There is no land at all in this terrain, so it will require a separate install of First Eagles. Otherwise you will find trucks and tanks driving over the water and land based aircraft taking off from the sea. I have included installation instructions. There are no campaigns (yet), but you can fly all the mission types as single missions. Supply ships replace trucks in armed recon missions. Torpedo boats replace the tanks in army co-operation missions. Airships replace balloons in the balloon busting missions. All of the ships and airships are armed with anti-aircraft weapons. There are a few neutral country merchant ships cruising around the edges, be careful not to create a diplomatic incident by attacking a non-combatant. I created a new kind of airfield (WWI_SeaPlaneBase.ini) which uses seaplane tenders. The tenders had hangars on the decks and planes were moved in and out of the water using cranes. WWI seaplane tenders carried small numbers of planes, usually 4 to 6, rarely more than 8. But my "airfields" have take off positions for 16 planes because First Eagles sometimes assigns large numbers of planes to missions. I have included ojcars AI airships in this terrain. I have adjusted the formations to keep them from colliding. This download includes all the ground objects for the North Sea terrain. I have created two new effects which make the static ships appear to be moving when they're really just sitting still. I have made new formations to spread the "trucks" "tanks" and "bombers" out more. I have made a new view list so you can use the F7 key to see all the ground objects. And I have made new icons for the in-flight map. All the ships have a separate skin for the flags, so you should be able to quickly make Austrian, Italian, Russian, or Turkish ships for different sea terrains. Installation Instructions: Start by making a new install of the game. In FE1 the following changes will be made directly in the game folder. In FE2, the changes will be made in the game's mod folder. If you haven't already done so, download the seaplanes from Combat Ace/Downloads/First Eagles Add-On Aircraft. Open the Objects folder. Delete the entire GroundObject folder and replace it with mine. Open the Aircraft folder. Delete all the planes, do NOT delete the pilot skins. Copy the two folders from my Aircraft folder into yours. Then install the seaplanes following the instructions in each download. In the new game folder, open the Effects folder. Copy the three files from my Effects folder into yours. Open the Flight folder. Copy the five files from my Flight folder into yours. Open the terrain folder. Delete all the terrains EXCEPT "wwiVerdun." You need the Verdun cat file for my terrain to work. Copy my wwiNorthSea folder into your Terrain folder. If you have FE2, open my "TerrainDataForFE2" folder, copy the wwiNorthSea_Data file and use it to replace the data file in the new North Sea folder. ** A note about the water - In the download, I have included a water tile (FRLAKE.tga) which is intended to look good in Medium graphics mode. It will still work in High graphics mode, or you can delete it and the stock Verdun water will be used instead. Ojcar has made a new data file which takes advantage of the graphics effects in FE2. This only works in FE2. If you are running FE1, use the original wwiNorthSea_Data in my terrain folder. ** Other notes - The stock campaigns and missions from the original game don't work anymore because you have deleted all the planes and terrains for them. When you run the new version of the game, it will hang if you click the "Campaign" or "Instant Action" buttons on the Main Menu Screen. 18. That is very cool! Now I want to drop everything and make a torpedo plane. There are so many interesting things to make, I can't keep up.
  19. Thank you quack74! Excellent work, as always. I'm looking forward to flying these. What's the story behind the poster on the wings?
  20. Forgive me for jumping in here Quack. Don246 - If you have added the planes to your Aircraft folder, you should be able to fly them. But when flying a single mission, First Eagles will randomly assign you to an airfield, and it may not be the right kind for your plane. You can still start your mission in the air and land at the seaplane base. In Campaigns, you can assign a plane to an airfield, so you can get the right kind of plane with the right kind of airfield. But, as you point out, that's a pretty complicated process. I have a naval terrain coming soon. It will only use seaplanes and all the airbases will be for seaplanes. This will require a separate install of First Eagles, so if you're new to this, you might want to check the knowledge base to see how that is done. I will try to include installation instructions with my terrain when it is done. Ojcar has been testing the naval terrain in FE2. I expect to have it finished (or good enough to use anyway) in a week or so.
  21. Looking good, sinbad! The cut outs through the upper wing look great. Are the squadron markings decals or part of the skin?
  22. The Hamble Baby was a slightly modified version of the Sopwith Baby. It had different floats and tail, and had a full wing aileron which was also an adjustable flap. A few of them were converted for land use (the Hamble Baby Convert - your link is to a reconstruction.) But you're right, it would be great to have a land version too. I'll see what I can do.
  23. I have uploaded my third float plane, the Sopwith Baby, a single seat recon plane and light bomber. The download includes two skins, including an Italian skin with decals. My thanks to Ojcar, who did a lot of work making this plane take off and land properly. This upload makes the 30th plane Ojcar and I have made! (That's not even counting revisions and multi-pacs.) Ojcar also revised the FMs for the Albatros and Rumpler. Those will be available as soon as the moderators review them.
  24. View File Sopwith Baby The Sopwith Baby was a British, single seat float plane used for reconnaissance and light bombing. It was built in fairly large numbers and was used by the British, French, Italian, Australian, Canadian, and American navies. My version carries a Lewis machine gun on the upper wing and a has a loadout for a light bomb load. Some Babys had a Lewis gun mounted at an angle through the upper wing and some had a synchronized Lewis mounted on the fuselage, but the horizontal upper wing mount seems to have been the most common. Since it's a float plane, the Sopwith Baby works best in the Flanders, Gibraltar or other terrain that has a lot of water. Ojcar has done a great job making this plane take off and land realistically on water. The plane will actually take off and land from a conventional airfield, but it looks strange to see the floats going under the ground. It would be best to start the missions in the air.
