Were there any friendly fire A-A kills in 2003? I know the Patriot batteries - that (in the GR4s case ) were running in some auto aquis mode with misidentified the GR4 (and maybe the FA-18C). There is an account in 1991 of an F-15 pilot (Steve Tate??)making a kill at 12 miles out after Electronic ID was made - the Iragi Jet (Mirage - I think) was getting into position at the 6 of two other F-15s. Even in Vietnam there was a "Free Fire" allocation given when no other friendlies were in the area so F-4 pilots had an opportunity to fire BVR - although no accounts of this actually being used - apart from later in the war by the Navy from what ive read - they would evacuate an area of all Navy Jets then the F-4s could fire at the Migs BVR. The F-4Ds and F-4Es seemed to have an IFF in 1972 (combat Tree) but in the pilot accounts ive read they still didnt trust it - and closed to Visual range........ Of course back then against Migs with Guns and rear aspect AA-2s closing to WVR was still a safe option. Closing into something these days that may have already fired an R-77 is something different altogether (unless you are VERY confident in your Counter Measures) - you may be forced to take the BVR risk as soon as its IDd! Certainly any Stealth jet getting WVR is negating its main advantage and surely would never do it unless really forced to.

Well as everyone is now a massive BOB fan after Daves thread below someone has posted the last 10 mins of what for me is the best BOB film series ever. what? - even the Stock F-15 that comes with the game?? Do you get the F-15s radar modes okay like TWS etc? Are playing the game with everything set to easy?

Well we all want this that and the other - but thats not going to happen - unless you are prepared to mod the game yourself - if you read the link in my signature about 3rd wire you may understand why. What radar guided missile are you using here? and on what jet? In general a cockpit light tells you the missile is locked and in range - it doesnt signify that the missile is within its correct parameters to be fired. Relax the stick before launching it - the later Sparrows are better - but in the F-15 you will find that the AI Migs will beam you at range breaking your lock and making the sparrow go balistic - therefore launch Within Visual range.

Most of the Migs were engaged over North Korea from what ive read - intercepting UN bombers and in fact Mig Alley is near the North Korean / Chinese Border - so if they ejected they stood a good chance of landing their side of the DMZ. It is said that for obvious political reasons communist bloc pilots seldom ventured over UN held territory - so they wouldnt be captured and start WW3 etc - Im pretty sure Russia has admited to sending its pilots to fight over N Korea btw

Unless the cabling was damaged or sabotaged after it was installed - theres no excuse for that. Like the way they use they are in a war zone as an excuse - unless they are pinned down by bullets when doing the job it should be done properly without fail.

The HUD is dependant on the cockpit and jet you fly - looks like hes flying an F-14 above Dont know what game you have but in WOV only the A-7E had a full HUD in that era AFAIK - and you can download that on this site - all the others in Nam at best had a lead computed gunsight only.

Will assume Win XP SP2? You havnt got a Direct2Drive version have you? Also check out Lead Pursuits web site - because I think there maybe something relating to a similar error on there. The only patch you should need is the full 1.0.13 one from LPs site - not the incremental one. Whats the current version of the game? Have you tried reinstalling it?

The AIM-120 wasnt used (fired) in the 1991 gulf war and AFAIK: In September 1991, IOC (Initial Operational Capability) was achieved for the AMRAAM on USAF F-15 aircraft. The F-16 followed in January 1992, and the Navy in October 1993. Full-rate production of the missile was approved in April 1992, marking Milestone III. (f-16.net) Although the site manages to contradict itself elsewhere by saying the block 30B was wired for AIM-120s in 1987 - although will assume that was for testing etc. So AIM-9L/M would probably be correct - nothing concrete on whether the Block 30 was wired for the AIM-7 in USAF service either.

Have you extracted the campaign_data.ini file from the cat file in the flight folder as stated in the above link? The extraction tool is on this site - you need to download and install the SFP1E extraction tool.
