I mean, really what should you do to live? Besides Eject and hope you're not KIA or become a PoW. Should you turn off your engine or something? >_<

Burn?

A handful of times, I have had small fires go out after cutting out the thrust, even before the engine toggle feature. However, the flames return worse if you increase thrust after. I haven't noticed this for a long while now.. I hope it wasn't disabled in the patch.

I cut the engine and hope it goes out. If the damage is light enough and your engine has fire suppression you should be able to put it out. Again depending on the severity you can decide if you want to turn the engine back on. Most of the time this is a very bad idea, and sometimes you can't get it to turn back on. My rule of thumb is, if you have the small fire, you may be ok, if its the big fire that engulfs most of the plane you should ditch before it blows up.

1. Cut out your engines

OR...

2. STOP, DROP AND ROLL!

Yeah, I've had that happen in SF2.

if you can cut the power to a point where the flame goes out and you still have some thrust, head back to base immediately. Otherwise glide your way as close to friendly territory as possible, I can't quite pin down the exacts, but it seems the closer you are, the less likely you'll be POW or MIA.

If you bail out over friendly territory you shouldn't be captured.

 I'd hope not.

If I'm ever on fire, I typically go with the GTFO option. After a few explosive ends, I don't try to stay with the jet anymore. Just join the Martin-Baker fan club.

Don't make any very sudden manuevers either. I was on fire in an F/A-18 and I pulled all the way back on the stick and BOOM! Lieutenant Commander Ace Pilot is KIA. Make gentile turns...if you still have control surfaces :biggrin:

Just bumping this to push out the fflippin OFF posts..

+1

I managed once or twice to put out fire by 1) minimizing throttle 2) diving fast -all in SF2 experimental WW2 install, I think it was Hawk75 or Buffalo

you could pray to god it doesn't explode up on you, but that will happen, so just bail out or banzai your aircraft into your target, go out as a hero, just like independence day.

Unless you're a commie: in case of bailing out over your own country or Socialist Brother Territtory, you would be shot for treason, cowardice, sabotage and destroying properties of the Revolution, the Glorous Working Class and the Rodina. :haha:

And if you're allied, you have a foreign accent and/or LOOK too much like a commie and would come down in western territtory, the nearest farmer would probably work you over with a pitchfork in the best Battle of Britain traditions................

Hou doe,
