Derk 265 Posted October 14, 2011 Well timed ejection..... Saw one in Belgium (capt. Duvivier, BAF Mirage V, Sanicole airshow) that ended very sadly...... Houdoe, Derk
JediMaster 451 Posted October 14, 2011 The 2 best timed I've seen were the Thunderbird F-16 that pulled out too low, and the famous MiG-29 bird ingestion in the UK 20+ yrs ago where the pilot touched the ground at about the same time as the plane did! 1

DWCAce 19 Posted October 18, 2011 I didn't mean any ill-will towards the pilot. Not trying to turn this into a political debate (not the place for it), but China is on the short list of enemies. Just talk to their hackers about trying to get into our defense computers. 1
JediMaster 451 Posted October 18, 2011 I don't think they're enemies so much as competitors. Like any 2 racing drivers, or boxers, or politicians running for the leadership of their country. Do they want to see the other one dead? Most likely not. They DO want to be #1 and see the other no better than #2, though. Naturally some people think of competition in terms of violence, as in "the last refuge of" for those unable to beat their competitor any other way. While I don't see foresee a WWIII with them anytime soon (although in decades to come things could change which could put as at each other's throats, just as those we fought with in former wars have turned into allies today), I don't see it as unlikely that we could enter a new Cold War with them as we had with the USSR decades past. No outright hostilities, but perhaps limited engagements in some areas on behalf of allies as happened before in both Korea and Vietnam. Lots of espionage, lots of belligerent behavior in the air and at sea with occasionaly shooting incidents, but I can't believe either side wouldn't be aware that a real war would be more devastating to both sides than any other possible outcome. 1
+Typhoid 231 Posted October 18, 2011 You guys are seriously horrible people. When an american, german, english, french whatever pilot has to eject its oh the horror. "The guy is a hero for" for saving the crowed bla bla bla. There is a person behind that jet. He made it out alive and that is what counts. China is not your enemy! Jeez. Combatace is seriously turning into a one sided community of pricks. to be fair, I don't think anyone knew that one of them hadn't made it out. It was initially thought that there was only one guy and he was OK. Hence, the light-hearted comments. When one of our own survives such an event - the irreverent humor dominates. That is part of the brotherhood of tactical aviation. When one doesn't make it, regardless of the country, people are respectful of the loss. The fact that one didn't make it was only recently reported. Take that into account.
MigBuster 2,884 Posted October 18, 2011 News update today indicated that the plane that went down at the air-show in China was a two-seater, the pilot didn't make it. Gawd - well people including me have assumed he got out okay - without bothering to check it might have been a dual seater! RIP
SayethWhaaaa 245 Posted October 19, 2011 When one doesn't make it, regardless of the country, people are respectful of the loss. It's a nice sentiment, but unfortunately, this isn't always the case.
xclusiv8 35 Posted October 19, 2011 (edited) And once again the moderators feel the need to censor what i said. Did i say something wrong? Some are disrespectful towards someone that lost their life. Sure if this was Osama or hitler whatever but its a pilot that has done nothing wrong to any of you. So why the hell did i get censored? I say screw combatace. I am out of here. This community has lost everything that was fun about it, a love for everything aviation without a freaking nation code on the wing. It was fun as long as it lasted. If someone can please tell me how to delete my account i would appreciate it a lot. Edited October 19, 2011 by xclusiv8 1
+Dave 2,322 Posted October 19, 2011 I didnt delete whatever it was you said. I agree with Typhoid and you, a loss is a loss and at an airshow to less makes it more tragic. We all love planes or we wouldnt be here.
+Typhoid 231 Posted October 19, 2011 It's a nice sentiment, but unfortunately, this isn't always the case. perhaps not - but I don't recall seeing anyone at any time actually celebrating the death of an aircrew, even an enemy. We cheered a combat kill and the safe return of ours - but we didn't celebrate the deaths of the pilots. I don't recall ever seeing anyone celebrating the death of a pilot at an airshow! There may be some low-life somewhere. In the above discussions people were joking about the loss of the plane before it was known that the pilot didn't make it. Nobody is out to single out your view points or censor you. Your post was removed (shown above) because someone thought it was a flame or offensive. I can see why and it is easy to do when people forget to stay on topic and refrain from making things personal. No big deal we move on. Unless of course you meant to say that I am a horrible one sided prick. Your post is great. I would have only posted this much of it however and it would have been just as affective. When an american, german, english, french whatever pilot has to eject its oh the horror. "The guy is a hero for" for saving the crowed bla bla bla. There is a person behind that jet. He made it out alive and that is what counts. China is not your enemy! Jeez. I hope that helps. Being a Moderator is NOT an easy job, it's completely thankless and sometimes we make mistakes or error on the side of caution to prevent an all out flame war. You eluded to tolerance and acceptance implying that "others" have none. I would hope that everyone thinks about that before they post. Unfortunately they don't and unfortunately we all have been there. At ease sir we're all friends here.
JediMaster 451 Posted October 20, 2011 LOL, I'm sure he would feel differently if the situation was reversed. To wit: xclusiv8 is a seriously horrible person. xclusiv8 is seriously turning into a one sided prick. You wouldn't think that was over the line? We should allow that to stand? Lexx_Luthor 57 Posted October 20, 2011 I don't make jokes about any airplane crash, even if everybody walks away unblemished. However, at work I was talking with a some guys about how strange deaths can happen. Some examples we talked about... It started with a rap about Spain and bullfighting, getting gored then a guy heard some story of marlin or equivalent jumping at a boat and spearing a man. I heard a story of a high speed boat going fast where a manta jumped up out the water and collided with a woman. Totaled her. Then I brought up some aviation stories...That flight from Hawaii where the roof skin (or door, don't recall) came off and sucked out a female flight attendent at 30,000 feet. The Soviet airliner that cracked in two and all died, but one guy in the tail end survived as the tail glided down, fuselage wide open at the break, and it landed perfectly and as it came to a stop it hit a tree and the guy got thrown into the tree. Totaled the man. UGGGH so close. Another (good ending) was a guy in a Zeppelin bombing England and the ship got torched and one guy jumped (no chute) and he fell through a roof and landed on a big bed. Okay he became POW but we can deal with that. Other weird stories too. Oh and the one that I always *see* in my head ever since I read it -- some escort pilot witnessed a crew abandoning a B-24 over Germany, and one guy climbed out on a wing, realized he didn't have his chute on, and tried to get back in, but he slipped off.
