  1. As another long-time Trekker I thought it was well worth seeing on the big screen. I may try to see it again on IMAX.
  2. Caught the launch in the break-room at work while I was making my lunch. Always fun. I'm jealous of my daughter. She got to see one in FL while she was doing her college internship. Been a space-freak since the Mercury missions.
  3. Seriously. What's the big secret? Post some links, guys...... Later.... I think this is it. Will need to try it this weekend. http://allaircraftarcade.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=15300
  4. A shout out to the techies here... I am shooting a very weird problem with memory on my Presario. I recently replaced the power supply btw. When I install BOTH sticks of memory (512M total) I get errors in Memtest. When I run with only one stick (either one in either slot) I get NO errors. They are, as far as I can tell, identical 256M sticks of Kingston memory. Could I be having a problem with the motherboard where communications between the two memory slots is porked? I really can't think of anything else. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks. Kirby
  5. Agreed. Unless you want YAP2 I would even go for SF2: Vietnam. A quality product for 20 bucks. And the community is already full-bore on getting freeware add-ons working with it.
  6. I downloaded it just a few days ago but I cannot get back to the site. I suspect there my be a problem with the website. PM me and I'll see what I can do to help.
  7. Well the fact it exists in the first place. There is no documentation telling you where to go to make changes to the controls folder for instance. I do not run Vista. Saying SF2:V was updated to run under Vista means nothing to me. Just a little frustrated. This could have been put in the readme.
  8. I did not see it in the readme or manual. I've been struggling for hours trying to figure this out. I have only purchased SF2: Vietnam so I did not get any information that may have been provided for SF2. I understand the Vista issues. I just don't understand why the folder changes were not documented somewhere.
  9. Some of you may have encounter this document. A very good explanation of how we got Red Flag and lots of good information on the F-4. http://www.airforcehistory.hq.af.mil/Publi...SierraHotel.pdf From a larger collection of Air Force pubs available here.... http://www.airforcehistory.hq.af.mil/Publi.../titleindex.htm Enjoy!
  10. I understand some of the logic in that we have been fighting two wars in which an aircraft like the F-22 really does not have a role to play. We are getting more use out of drones and choppers, for instance. Yes, from a "I love airplanes" perspective I hate to see the F-22 die but I'll have to admit I'm not sure where it fits in today's conflicts. The F-35 might just be a better use of our money. The bottom line is that this defense budget is STILL bigger than last years.
  11. FreeFalcon 5 takes a shot at these but is a little limited in terms of avionics. You need to have Falcon 4.0 to install FF5. F-22 ADF and F-22 Total Air War are probably the best sims for replicating the real F-22. The FM is somewhat simplified but who knows how an advanced FBW plane would respond anyway :) Super EF2000 is still probably the best study sim of that aircraft. The problem is going to be finding copies of Falcon 4.0, TAW and SEF2000.
  12. I'm glad it's over. I can only take so much dark drama. Week in and week out just got to be a chore to watch. Not that it was not a good show but ol' Walt Disney once said you need a laugh for every tear. BSG was woefully short on laughs.
  13. more tools...... These sims were built to be modded. Having a more robust toolset would get more folks involved. STUPID REQUEST: Allow enemy levels to be set to 0 in Create Flight. It'd be a quick way to generate a Free Flight type experience with any flyable aircraft over any terrain you have installed.
  14. Leonard Nimoy gave it a thumbs up on a recent radio show he was on. Good enough for me. ST needs a breath of fresh air and I, too, am a fan of Abrams other work.
  15. Yes, I think some of it is simple "sticker shock". We, as a community, have gotten a bit spoiled in regards to freeware. And the worst of us are probably the ones who have never worked on a mod and do not understand the tremendous number of hours it takes to produce even a simple one. To be brutally honest I simply can't afford OFF right now. Games are at the top of my "luxuries" list and are the first thing to go when the going gets tough. And I have more sims right now than I have time to play. I recently got back into F-22 Total Air War and it's substantial modding community. I have ODS to play with. I have only touched the surface of MAW for CFS3. Nice problems to have :)
  16. No. It would be nice. I would not pay for it.
  17. You can also just delete the entire entry for the radar screen. The sim does not mind.
  18. See if there is an f86reflect*.tga in the cockpit folder. A lot of folks use that file to dim the canopy. The file can be safely deleted. Otherwise it might be an issue similar to the A-6 in WOV after the first patch. The LOD file apparently has a transparency value for the canopy that dims it somewhat. This cannot be changed without having access to the source files for the LOD.
  19. You will most likely want to go to your laptop vendor. You can also try Intel. Microsoft will have a driver but it will be only the most basic functions (they provide just enough of a driver to get the system up with basic graphics.)
  20. I hate graphics drivers!! I agree it looks like a driver problem. I have tried to upgrade by Nvidia drivers for my 6800 and it always seems I hit problems that force me to regress to a previous version.
  21. The Default.ini member in the Control(s) folder has settings to control dead zone, sensitivitiy, etc. I have found modifying the dead zone for my throttle a bit solves a similar problem.
  22. I would start with going to the Microsoft web site and finding the absolute lastest version of Directx. (yes, it will be 9.0 but there have been many small updates to directx.)
  23. Sorry. You need to load the map and then download it to the devices. (There is a download icon on the main control manager panel.) For me it's just not worth it. TW sims do not model brakes the way something like MSFS does. It's almost easier and more usable just to map the "B" key to a joystick or throttle button. I was hoping someone with more CH programming experience than I have (and more free time) would come up with a better idea.
  24. This is very sad. I guess we get accused of a "cowboy mentality" here in the states but I'm not apologizing for it. We recently had an incident here where some punks pulled a gun on a shop owner. The shop owner was also armed and shot both of them in self-defense. He was cleared as having justification for using deadly force. End of story. Yes, I feel for the families of the victims but what do you expect when you threaten someone with a gun. You can't fix stupid.
