Try being nicer about it. Alot of noobs are coming in here asking the same questions over and over, when a simple search could find the answer, or some time in the KB. It get tiring answering the same questions. So, for your problem: Go into the options.ini in the root folder of the sim. Let's use WoE as an example. Open it with a text editor. Scroll down and look for 1989 as the end year. Change that to 2020 on each and every entry you find. Leave the start at 1965 or whatever it is, unless you want it to start earlier. Save and upon restarting the game, you should be good to fly to 2020, granted the aircraft you want has service dates that far out. Understand? -S

Talked with one of the guys I go to church with about building one for him. Found out he was a flight sim guy also and on how he has always wanted a 'pit. Now to decide on what style. Ghost's is nice, but I prefer the "bathtub" style where you drop in and it surrounds you more. We'll see. I do like the dual monitor set-up though! -S

I'm looking to reduce the overall size of the explosion effects in order to get my rates back up into a playable level. Tries to intercept a flight of RE8s and their escorts, but with all of the flak and tracers, the game was nearly a slide show. Anyhow, I'm looking for which folder contains the ini files for these? I'm used to WoX file system and the add-on effect loaded into the effects folder. Since these are stock, I dont know where to look. Thanks! -S

Interesting little aircraft. Thanks for the work on both. -S

Well given that you've got a few actual pilots on the boards, lets try this: Pilot: Fast Cargo A Major who longs to get back into an operational squadron and back to his beloved B-1B. However, red tape prevents this, so he resigns his commision. Reading about the on-going conflict in this far away land, he sells off his belongings and buys a one-way ticket. He joins up with (insert country here) and begins a new life on the front lines. Given his vast experience and resume as a former Instructor pilot, he is given his own flight to mold into an elite fighting force. Pilot: Jug A quiet man, who reflects on the days of old, flying solo recce missions. His steads included the RF-101 Voodoo, the RF-4C and the U-2 Dragonlady. While doing some contracted consultation to (insert country here), he gets caught up in the emotions that only come out when a a man's life is on the line. He volunteers his services. And then there is Dave. NOT a quiet man at all, but smart as anyone. He longed to be a pilot, but the AF had other plans for his career path. After many years as a Boot Camp Instructor, he was given control of the base's nerve center, the Command Post. From there he made a name for himself. Any emergency, natural distaster or civil disturbance, he had the ability to foresee everything before it evolved and had the pieces in place to counter it. His last post was as a GCI (Ground Control Intercept) station Senior Controller. His coolness underpressure nearly guaranteed a pilot's successful air battle. His abilities and calm voice over the radio was almost as good as having him in the backseat or in another jet alongside. ------------------------------------------------------------- How's thats for starters? -S

The P-8 is also air refuelable, so duration is only limited by the crew. -S -
F-4E-2020 Terminator and F-5-2000
ST0RM replied to Viggen's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
The Turkish F-4E-2020 Terminator was a joint upgrade by IEI and TuAF Logistics. It was based off of the Kurnass-2000, but with the most current avionics of the day. On the other side, the Greek Peace Icarus was based off of the German ICE program, but included a significant A-to-G capability. Just based off of what I've read about each aircraft, and this is purely my opinion, the Greek Phantom appears to be more flexible and more of a complete weapon system. I've yet to see a Turkish Phantom, but the Greek jets looked sweet with the IFF blades and a targeting pod slung underneath. When I last saw one, it was at a TLP at Florennes and there were some German AF F-4Fs with them. You could definately make out which were which due to those smokeless engines. Good luck! Jeff -
I just got FE for Christmas. Installed it and have been playing it exclusively since. I like the flight back then. Actually seeing your opponent up close and taking aim to place your shots into the engine and bring it down. The only thing I've changed was the sound effects. They were a bit soft and I added ones that had a deeper sound. It's another great part in the Century of Flight. Eventually the Thirdwire series will allow us to relive nearly every key air battle over the last 100 years. Now EAW?!? Wow. I truly spent hours on that. Even when it didnt have as many mods. To me, that is what killed my interest. It got so busy with mods and a lack of coordination, I couldnt keep up and lost interest. -S

The P-8 Poseidon is the US Navy's replacement for the P-3 Orion. The A&EW E-737 is being called the Wedgetail. Here are pics of both. E-737: And the Poseidon: -S -
Wow, that is a great collection. I had all except for Harrier and the Stormovik sims. I have agree that we've yet to see anything close to mission planning and the F-14's avionics as we saw in Tornado and Fleet Defender. Although the Falcon series has given it a strong go with the Viper. You are sitting on a small pot of gold there Vanessa. Cheers!

Welcome to CA Dingo. When the Tiffie gets A/R certified on the KC-135 MPRS, I'll be anxious to get one on the hose. Cheers! Storm

The last tank sim I had was Panzer Commander. I spent hours on it, but nothing since has really captured my eye. Reading bad reviews of what was available didnt help either. -S

I too am sorry to hear of your Grandfathers passing. May he enjoy a new life in Heaven. Jeff

Troops being able to deploy flares?
ST0RM replied to WDH's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Nah, just trying to help you fill in some empty spots. Good luck! -Jeff -
Is that a MiG-15 or -17? I've seen it twice, but couldnt stop either time to take a close look and count the wing fences to see which it was. It looked to have Hungarian markings, as the star wasnt solid. -S

How about the MiG-27 and MiG-23BN for a Soviet CAS platform? -S -
F-101B Voodoo V1.1
ST0RM replied to ErikGen's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - File Announcements
Offline for a couple of days and another Voodoo gets released. Thanks very much. Looking forward to flying with the 60th FIS. -S -
It's on my Christmas list, so I hope it's waiting for me in couple of days. One of the MiG-21Fs is at the museum at Eglin AFB. I remember back in the early 90's when it arrived, but had no clue that it was a former Red Hat aircraft. -S

I had one in Germany, but it got pretty beat up on the move back, so I scrapped it. Maybe, one day again...

Another fine MF product. Thanks guys! -Jeff -
You're telling me. And yet, we are at our busiest pace ever, while being at our smallest.

In today's fight over Afghanistan, each aircraft does pretty well for what they are each tasked to do. You dont have the huge Superpower slugfest of the Cold War where large flights of jets would battle it out for Air Supremacy or take on battalions of armor. The Super Hornet (or ATARS config'd D-model) can run a fast recce route using the SHARPS pod, while still keeping a good portion of it's bombs. The A-10 can loiter over an area and use the targeting pod, but doesnt have the capability to utilize a recce pod. Both aircraft have been using their guns during strafing runs and with the current loads, they are pretty close in what they bring to the fight. However, down in the valleys, the A-10 has the manueverability to stay close overhead, while the Hornets will need more room. The A-10 has issues at high altitudes with a full combat load, where the Hornets do ok at the higher elevations. In reality, tactics are what makes or breaks any aircraft. You must evolve and keep ahead of the emerging threats. I think both communities have done a great job in meeting the challenge of an urban environment in Iraq, and the mountainous villages in the 'Stans. If I was having to build an Air Force, those two aircraft would be high on my list of equipment to purchase. -S

If the sim allows, I will create a separate profile for another nation and fly it's aircraft using that pilot. This way, I dont get burned out on the same thing and get the build up 2 pilot's careers. -Storm
