Brixmis Chipmunk T10 and templates This was a quick and dirty mod to provide templates for the rerelease of the de Havilland Chipmunk Trainer and a skin to represent the BRIXMIS recon mission. Requirements You will need the original aircraft available here https://combatace.com/files/file/17262-sf2-dhc-1-chipmunk-pack/ otherwise, this should work in any version of SF2 Installation unzip main folder. Place objects folder in the objects folder of your chosen install. place templates folder wherever you need to, in order to create more skins. templates are available in xcf for Gimp users and psd for Photoshop users note: the patches layers are set to create a ribbed effect on the pertinent airfoils. they are set so that you should be able to use them with any other design BRIXMIS History The British Commander in Chiefs Mission or BRIXMIS for short was a mission that used the legal ability of a certain number of British servicemembers to roam the Soviet Zone of Occupation, generally known as East Germany. Reciprocity was enjoyed by the Soviets in the former British Zone of Occupation. The airborne component of BRIXMIS flew out of RAF Gatow in Berlin. An observer rode in the front and took pictures of Soviet military activities and equipment within a 20 mile radius of Berlin, flying under cover of "exercising the right to navigate within the flight corridors to and from Berlin". Serials provided are in pairs for each period of time operated, but in one overall skin WK303, WK587 from 1956-1966 WP850, WP971 from 1966-1974 WZ862, WD289 from 1974-1988 WG466, WG486 from 1988-1990 Credits From the Original Big Al for the aircraft Bobrock for pilot figure (A-26) AvHistory for the engine sound Raven for the cockpit. Wrench for everything else. daddyairplanes: Brixmis Skin and decals, template created while making these paulopanz, Stratos: test subjects to make sure it worked elsewhere (no modders were harmed in the making of this template) Sources Google image searches "Safety of Flight Not Garunteed" https://www.16va.be/vols_brixmis_part1_eng2.html originally read about in one of Key Publishing's aviation magazines i hope you all enjoy the skin and that the template is useful to anyone wishing to add in other users. cough cough nudge nudge i'm wrapping up B-1s for now (SAC era complete, just gotta finish research on 14 in ANG service and knock them out) and KC-10 was on my improve list for this SAC Twilight thing i got going on. done by Sunday and off to testers if RL cooperates (dang if we arent supposed to stay indoors now). $0.02 thrown in even if your still looking for new blood for the base skin, the decals set up for the old one should do with minimal adjustment (depends on how the windows and doors are on model really). would save a lot of time for both the tanker versions and airliner versions later on. also to any and all who might tackle big girl here (me included): i wouldnt worry about the rivets themselves. tried it on the C-5 years ago. on something this big irl, the rivets would have to be the diameter of Whoppers to be visible at any realistic distance

just wow ravenclaw. just wow. new paint job for the fastest recon bird to actually operate over East Germany and his little friend too
-
soooo went on a recon/test mission this afternoon..... and had to wonder why none of these tankers were flying flags or had names on the hulls.....

final group for SAC, then off to the Guard and Australia dust in the wind i'm sure youre asking how long....

ok, so would we be able to see a Privateer here one day (preferably sooner than later)? again, it would be nice to have a recon version for cold war as well, and there were actually many operators (USN, USCG, Aeronavale, Canada, fire bombers and a few airlines). as Roger Rabbit said, p p p pp p p p p p puh leeeeeze? mandatory screenie: yet another thats gotta get new clothes
-
opinion time: original F101Burner (night shot) or revised F101Burner (dusk shot)? i didnt think the original stood out enough, esp afer watching daytime videos of AB takeoffs

Okay History Buffs, Veteran Navy, Cold War Researchers
daddyairplanes replied to Skyviper's topic in The Pub
also recalled from that era "In November of 1984, shortly before Gorbachev came to power, a Typhoon class Soviet submarine sub surfaced just south of the Grand Banks. It then sank in deep water, apparently suffering a radiation problem.Unconfirmed reports indicated some of the crew were rescued. But according to repeated statements by both Soviet and American governmentsnothing of what you are about to see... ever happened" ok, not historical, but given the topic i couldnt resist. let you all figure out what from tho -

yes i (likely speaking for the rest) thinks its awesome enough working with historical nose arts on the big boys, i've been having to either recreate some things from near scratch, pull from totally seperate sources(typically on being told it was from album cover art) or trace over very blown up original and redo (ok thats probably near scratch too) personally, i think i can sorta tell where theres a join of the two parts in the displayed tga, and not at all in game screenie (which is the ultimate goal).

Back to Bastion: Returning to Four Years After British Troops Left
daddyairplanes replied to Skyviper's topic in The Pub
while i wasnt at Bastion, that brings back memories. the tents, AC units, and t barriers are pretty common to anyone whose gone to that place called Southwest Asia and while at Kandahar, i liked to hang out on the Brit side more than the US. often cheaper stuff; smokes at the NAAFI, coffee at that shop and gettin pies and Irn Bru at Heroes. pretty good stories too once the guys figured out they didnt have to behave round this Yank better sense of humor than the folks AAFES brought in too. a funny memory of the year was buying cigarettes at the NAAFI (Brit PX). NOTE: European cigarette warning labels do not say "The Surgeon General says...." but rather "SMOKING IS BAD FOR YOU" so, my clerk at the register asks me if i want SMOKING IS BAD FOR THE SKIN or SMOKERS DIE YOUNGER the thing you find funny some days. and i picked die younger.- 1 reply
