    1. Colourful Korea - A skin and decals pack for Wings over Korea

      COLOURFUL KOREA

      Some assembly required.

      ---------------------------------------
      WTF is this ?
      ---------------------------------------

This is a mod of a mod, it's intended to be used as a "patch" for Do335 Wings over Korea mod, itself a mod of the semi-avorted Korean Air War mod.

Its intent is to add more units, more skins and, above all, more named planes to the Korean War.

It's meant to be a patch, to keep the footprint low, making it useless by itself.

It's also a backport from my own Korean War install meaning that some things might not be as originally intended (for instance, in my own install the SAAF 2nd Squadron uses slatted wings F-86F-10's, which is - mostly - historically correct, however a standard WoK install gives hard-wing F-86F-30 - of which they only ever had 1 - to 2nd Squadron).
My focus on these releases is maintaining compatibility with the WoK campaign at the cost of "authenticity" (which would require something much more grandiose with at least 3 campaigns, which is a work in progress but not aimed for release - too much unclearable content being used).

      ---------------------------------------
Why such a miscellaneous and crippled package ?
      ---------------------------------------

Because I'm slightly burning out on the Korean War, that Real Life is coming back and that rather than having "finished" work rot away on a hard drive, I'd rather release what can be so others can enjoy or build upon it.
Also because I'm too lazy to walk the minefield of varying licences involved in packaging someone else's content.
And yes, someday I'll finish the Thunderflashes, if Paulo doesn't beat me to it.

      ---------------------------------------
      What are the pre-requisites ?
      ---------------------------------------

      ---------------------------------------
      Probable questions
      ---------------------------------------

      - Hey, why are you using an inefficient ZIP format when RAR5 and 7Z offer much better compression rates ?

Because RAR5 breaks backward compatibility while using the same extension, leading to many confused people believing their download to be corrupted, leading to re-downloads, increased bandwidth consumption for CombatAce and overall a greater cost than a slightly larger archive and more headache for the player.
Because 7Z requires to install a dedicated software while Windows does manage ZIP files natively, making it much easier for players.

      - Hey, why are your skin in a funky PDN format instead of a standard Photoshop PSD file ?

Because, even with Creative Cloud, Photoshop can be too much money for some modders and I don't condone piracy.
Because Paint.NET ( http://www.getpaint.net/ ), the software using PDN files, covers 95% of skinner needs, especially when using the PSD plugin ( https://psdplugin.codeplex.com/ ) to open PSD files (DO NOT use RLE compression when saving in PSD format though) and the Alpha Mask plugin ( http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/topic/1854-alpha-mask-import-plugin-20/ ).
Because Photoshop makes me jump through more hoops than Paint.NET to obtain some layer interactions.

      - Hey, there shouldn't be rivets here / Hey, that colour is slightly off / Hey, 202 actually didn't have his code painted on the wing / Hey, the decal seems to be bleeding etc...

Yes, I'm probably already aware of all that, some of it can't be changed by anyone so you'll have to live with it, some of it is ignored to keep things simple and tidy, and finally many are ignored because I've reached the point where, at the moment, I'm not willing or able to do better.
Feel free to add your own corrections and changes and either submit them to me for another release (you'd be credited of course), or release your own mod of a mod of a mod.

      - How do I contact you ?

Well, PM me on CombatAce, when Real Life is involved it might be some month before I answer though, or you can mail me, but unless it's important, it's highly probable I'll just ignore it, sorry.

F-86F Template : Ravenclaw (90%), Wrench, The (9%), Gunrunner (1%), I mostly added a few details, a noise layer, reworked invasion bands, tail and nose decorations.

VF-11 Squadron Badge, 2nd Squadron Badge, "Elyana" and "Bowl'Em Over !" nose arts for Australian Meteors : from my "decal vault", if it's yours, drop me a line and I'll credit you or remove/replace it.

    3. JASDF F-86 Sabre Skin Pak

      JSADF F-86F-40 Sabre Skin Pak

      =For SF2 & SF/SFG/WoV/WoE and maybe WoI @ 08 Levels and above=

Something to fill the gap for early usage by the JASDF, from it's formation in 1954, until the mid/late 1960s when the F-104s began replacing them.

You MUST have the F-86F-40 installed first, before installing these skins (duh!). Although all Zur's Sabres are mapped identically, these are for the F-40 variant, and NOT the standard or garden variety F-86F (although the JASDF DID use/build a lot of F variants)

The 4 JASDF Squadron represented here are:

      1 Hikotai
      3 Hikotai
      6 Hikotai
      8 Hikotai

While designed with SF2 installs in mind (this was tested in my full-4 merged), it can also be used in 1st Gens, with some minor editing. I've suppled a 'blank' SF/Wo* F-86-40.ini (blank meaning it has no textureset listings), and full instructions for use in 1st Gens, found down below in the "To Insall" section. Be advised, I no longer mod for 1st Gen Series, excepet for WW2 (and I'm trying like crazy to get THEM updated...), so if you can't figure it out...

All have accurate serial numbers assigned, as per squadron (rated at 90%, as I couldn't find each and every one of the 18 A/C per squadron, so 1-3 are 'fill-ins'. Rest assured, however, they ARE correct either for NAA or Mistubishi/Fuji built versions). While the number.lst in included, it's been deactivated as for to keep you from running out of numbers while playing; what with only 18 aircraft per squadron, this is a VERY real possibility. It's easily reactivated by a simple rename. A 'generic' patch is included, also renamed to remove it. SF2 seems to have some kind of 'issue' with the paintchip/patch, in that it shfits the squadron selextions in the dropdown to the left a bit, making it hard to read.

For SF2 only, there are a new SF2 style plane-jane Hangar Screen, a new avionics ini that activtes the gun ranging-only radar (puts the yellow diamnomd on the target when within range),a =very= incomplete UserList.ini, and an extra main ini for SF/Wo* 1st Gen usage. The avioinics.ini =NOT= usable in SF/Wo* 1st Gens, except with the possiblity of WoI with the new Suez Expansion Pak. This has =NOT= been tested, as I don't have the WoI Expansion.

As always, READ the enclosed readme for full, highly detailed, step-by-step install instructions. For those wishing to install to 1st Gen games, =PLEASE= make double damn sure you read the special section for you. I've tried to keep it as simple a possible, while covering all bases.

It is HIGHLY suggested you read this document through before installing the mod, to make sure you understand what's to be accomplished.

      Good Hunting!!

    8. Ethiopian Air Force F-86F-40 Sabre Skin & Decal Pak

Ethiopian AF F-86F-40 Sabre Skin Pak
      = For SF2, Any and All =

A new skin/decal pak for the Sabre, representing those as flown by the Ethiopian Air Force in the 1960s through the mid-1970s. Designed specifically for the F-40 (as this model/lod has the least in-game problems -ie shadow probs), it can be used on any version as they're all mapped the same. However, what little data is availalbe seems to suggest the later 'hard winged' versions. So, stick to that one

A modifed Loadout ini, with Ethiopian nation-specific loads, is included, as they never seemed to have been fitted with Sidewinders. This A-A load has been eliminated via the magic of that recently (as of Sept/Oct 2011 patch) implemented trick. Ground attack loadouts using rockets keep the 8 HVAR loads. All others are the same as before.
A new "Userlist.ini" is also included, that replaces the one from my JASDF Sabre Pak. It would be advisable to add THIS package over that one, or you'll be editing the main ini to add the Userlist line.

Serial numbers are/have been extrapolated from the 3 known photos - one of which was a derlict camo aircraft, and are not 100% historically accurate (excepting 251 and 258). The aircraft is in Natural Metal, as delivered from the USA. Sometime in the 1970s, the EtAF recieved several dozen from Iranian stocks, which were painted in the same camo colors as the IIAF F-5s. That skin may be forthcoming...who knows!

As always, fairly easy to follow, yet detailed install instructions are included. Please read them!

      Happy Landings!

Hi this was my first attempt to add decals on the "Viper Team's" F-16C Block 40. They have the correct tail numbers for their time in Operation Desert Storm. They were from Moody AFB, GA 347th FW. They served along side with 4th TFS and 421st TFS under the 388th Tactical Fighter Wing Provisional in Desert Storm. Enjoy!!!

    13. F-4F (80) Norm 81B Camouflage

History of the Norm 81 camouflage:

Since the mid 70ies German fighter pilots from Jagdgeschwader 71 "Richthofen" and Jagdgeschwader 74 "Mölders" increasingly complained about the old one-fits-all aircraft camouflage of the Luftwaffe called Norm 72 (Standard 72, named after the year of introduction). Its large geometrically arranged areas in olive-green and gray worked well camouflaging an aircraft on the ground and even in low level flight over the equally geometrical fields of Germany. But the dark colours also drew massive attention in high altitude combat. Worse, the oversized Iron Crosses and serial numbers with their high contrast black and white lettering made the aircraft even easier to spot.

In the later 70ies, Luftwaffe command encouraged its fighter pilots to develop new paint schemes. “Richthofen” and “Mölders” in particular were eager in devising trial camouflages. Most of them massively reduced the greens and put stronger emphasis on grays, while shrinking the markings a lot. (I do not know if it was intentional or not, but some resembled WWII Luftwaffe interceptor camouflages.) These were to become the basis for the official Norm 81.

Norm 81 was to be used by fighters and fighter-bombers alike, and applied to Phantoms which were upgraded to Peace Rhine-standard. When they were upgraded to ICE-standard, Norm 81 was replaced by the more modern Norm90J – the first German paint scheme intended for fighters only.

Description of the Norm 81 camouflage:

The aircraft camouflage is dominated by two shades of light gray (Lichtgrau, Steingrau) on the lower surfaces and the sides. Only the upper surfaces of the wings and the topsides of the fuselage along the spine and the engines were painted with three dark shades of gray (Quarzgrau, Basaltgrau, Staubgrau) and one shade of green-gray (Grüngrau). The early schemes deliberately featured soft edges for the colours blending them better into each other. Later this was given up, as weathering did that job rather well, too.

The national markings were reduced in size and number; the Iron Cross was applied top to the left wing and bottom to the right wing, and on both sides of the fuselage. Early in the 80ies, the old Norm 72-warnings continued to be used, until replaced with toned down warnings.

For flight safety some aircraft sported high visibility markings, most notably when transferred to low level fight training in Goose Bay, Canada. These markings could be painted on the top fuselage, under the nose, on the wing tips and on the stabilizers varying in size and colour. Many crews seemed to favour red or yellow, but green or blue was seen often as well. Only few had white or dayglow markings.
Norm 81 was used in two variants, A for geometrical shapes on the wings, tail and the fuselage downside, and B for rounded shapes. B seems to have been the preferred choice by the units.

Advise on the use of the skins in SF2:

The combination of soft colour edges and Norm 72-markings makes these skins suitable for campaigns set in the early and mid 80ies. However in the late 80ies they would look rather out of place.

      Skins included:

I included one Norm 81B skin for every German wing equipped with F-4F:
      Jagdgeschwader 71 "Richthofen"
Jagdgeschwader 74 "Mölders" (flying 'denamed' as JG 74 today)
Jagdbombergeschwader 35 (flying reorganized as JG 73 “Steinhoff” today)
Jagdbombergeschwader 36 (disbanded today, flew as JG 72 in its last days)

      Requirements:

You need the F-4F (80), but the skins should also fit on the F-4F (ICE). Also, F-4F and F-4E may work more or less.

      Installation:

Just unzip and drop the folder in your SF2 mod directory, usually it is:
      C:\Users\xxx\Saved Games\ThirdWire\StrikeFighters2 yyy

    14. IAI Nesher for SF2I

      IAI Nesher for SF2I

This package includes all known single seat Neshers of the IAF. The Nesher was in service from 1971 to 1981 in four different squadrons, three of them before and during the Yom Kippur War, in which the type was used with great success.
By the end of the Yom Kippur War Nesher 510 had shot down 13 enemy aircraft, equalising the record for the highest number of kills for a single Israeli plane, previously held by the Shahaks 58 and 59.

      No. 101 First Fighter Squadron - 1971-1975
      No. 113 Hornet Squadron - 1972-1976
      No. 144 Arava Guardians Squadron - 1972-1978
      No. 253 The Negev Squadron - 1976-1981

A note on the serial numbers: The historical correct serial numbers in this package include two digit numbers as well as three digit serial numbers. All Neshers were numbered at first with the two digit serial numbers,
but with the arrival of the two seater, the single seat model's serial numbers where changed to 5XX while the two seaters were numbered 6XX.

      INSTALLATION:
Extract the content of the archive and put the Objects folder into your SF2I mod folder.
In case you can't see the full names of each skin in the loadout menu (lower screen resolution), navigate to the the folder named "optional" and copy the Objects folder to your SF2I mod folder. Let overwrite when asked.

Made for the TMF F-5E model. For use by the nation of Paran.
This skin is part of a Skin set, all in the same style, by the same author.

This work is based on existing skins and templates, Taking the required

USAF silver skin for the F-5E, which is also available.

      INSTALLATION:
Copy the included folder with contents to the folder that contains
      the F-5E files, for example:

When in the game select the skin in the loadout screen.

      NOTE:
Be sure to download and install my Damage Textures Pack released
on Combatace, which also contains detailed Damage textures for the
      F-5E.

For Game performance or loading times it may be desirable to scale down
      this skin to 512x512 size.

    19. SF2 Korean War Era P-51D Mustangs

SF2 Korean War Era P-51D Mustangs

      = For SF2, Full-5 Merged, =WITH= SF2:I Expansion Pak 1 (Required) =

Note: you MUST have SF2:I Expansion Pak 1 to make use of this mod, as it references the
stock 3rd Wire P-51D. If you do not meet this requirement, DO NOT DOWNLOAD THIS MOD, as you
will be unable to use it. This mod pak is also designed with a 'stand alone' KAW mods
folder, although it can be used in full-merged.

This pak contains 4 reskins for the 3W Mustang, for units/squadrons during the Korean War.
      This pak includes:

      12th FBS, 18th FBG, USAF
      2 Squadron, SAAF "Flying Cheetahs"
      77 Squadron, RAAF
51st PFS (Provisional Fighter Squadron), ROKAF

The 12th and 51st skins reference the stock Mustang serial numbers; on the ROKAF Mustang,
#18 carries 100% accurate 'nose art' for Col. Dean Hess. 2 & 77 Squadrons have 100%
historic serial number decals. Decal randomization is set to TRUE for all skins. All skins
are in bmp format, making them usable in all versions of SF2 (although the latest patch
      level is HIGHLY suggested)

Also included is a modified data ini with 100% correct lighting. The canopy opens/closes
with the Usual Suspect ™ keystroke, Shift/0. A new main ini (P-51D.ini) is supplied,
with the 12th FBS skin moved up to the #1 position. A new Merlin engine sound is included.
All weapons used are stock, availble from the SF2I Exp1 upgrade.

As always, fairly easy to follow, highly detailed install instructions are included. So,
please read them. Also, give the "Notes" section a read too. All screenshots herein were
taken over the KAW Korea terrain; coming soon.

      Happy Hunting!

    20. SF2 3W F-84F "Thunderstreak" USAF & ANG Skin Pak

      SF2 3W F-84F "Thunderstreak" USAF & ANG Skin Pak 5/17/15

      -- For FULL-5 Merged SF2 WITH SF2E Expansion Pak 2!!! --

*Note: MUST have (whichever!) Expansion Pack gave use the F-84F Thunderstreak. IIRC, it was SF2E Expansion Pack 2*

Here are several new skins for the stock 3rd Wire F-84F Thunderstreak (this is the swept wing one, not the slab-winged C/D/E/G). These represent USAF and Air National Guard units in the 1950s through the A/Cs retirment in 1971 (ish). This packge ONLY contains skins and decals. I've not supplied any parts for you to make it Player Flyable ™. There are other mods that do that.

      You have:

55th TFS, 20th FBW (1950s, based in the UK, in NM)
182nd TFS, Texas Air Guard (post-68 in SEA Camo)
119th TFS, New Jersey Air Guard (circa 1961-ish, in NM)

Most markings are decals, excepting the 55ths color bands. Decal randomization is TRUE. For the 55th, those numbers displaying a star (*) on the loadout screen (individual aircraft dropdown) are 100% historically correct for the unit. Those withOUT the star, while having served with the 20th FBW, could not be traced to a specific squadron.
The other two units use "generic" sets, either created by me, or in the case of the 119th, using stock 3W number decals.
The SF2 "date switch" is used for the 182nd, activating it automatically in 1969. By that time, all remaining American units HAD been swtiched to SEA camo.

As always, fairly easy to follow, yet detailed install instructions are included. So, please read them! And have fun!

      Happy Landings!

    22. 906th TFG/89th TFS Circa 1982-1989

906th TFG/89th TFS Skin pack for F-4D_78. It covers all schemes used (SEA, Euro and Hill Grey) and uses the actual tail codes the unit flew with.

This skin represents the 906th TFG/89th TFS, USAF Reserve F-4D's from Wright Patterson AFB, Dayton Ohio circa 1982-1989.

The 89th traces its lineage to that of a troop carrier squadron during World War II, flying the Douglas C-47 Skytrain from 1943 – 1945. The 89th earned a Distinguished Unit citation for their efforts in the air assault during the D-Day invasion of France on the 6th of June 1944. The 89th flew throughout the European campaign including the Battle of the Buldge. The squadron was stationed at Baer Field, IN, Sedalia AAFLD, MO, Laurin –Maxton AAB, NC, and various fields throughout the European Theater. The 89th also flew various types of gliders during the same period including the CG-4, CG-13 and the British made Horsa 1-A. Missions included airlift, airdrop, air evacuation and glider towing.

After the conclusion of WWII, the 89th was deactivated. In 1949 the 89th was activated in the Air Force Reserve as a Troop Carrier Squadron (medium). The unit flew the C-45 Expediter which was a military version of the Beechcraft Model 18 commercial transport. The squadron was stationed at Offutt AFB, NE, during the period.

The 89th also flew the C-46 Commando along with the C-45. The C-46 was a variant of the Curtis CW-20 commercial transport. The Commando carried more cargo than the famous C-47 and offered better performance at higher altitudes, but required more maintenance and had a higher loss rate. The C-46 was also flown by the 89th at Offutt AFB, NE.

The C-47 was flown again by the 89th during the same period as the C-45 and C-46 at Offutt AFB, NE. Missions included air, land, airdrop, and air evacuation. The 89th was ordered to active service during the Korean Conflict for a brief period in 1951.

In 1952, the 89th became a fighter-Bomber Squadron moving to Mitchell Field in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The unit began flying the F-51. The F-51 Mustang was best remembered by its former designation as the P-51. The F-51 was powered by a Packard built Merlin V-1650 piston engine producing 1600 hp.

In 1954 the 89th converted to the Lockheed T-33 Shooting Star. The T-33 was the first jet aircraft the 89th flew. Developed from the single seat P-80 fighter by lengthening the fuselage three feet to allow for a second cockpit. The squadron flew the T-33 at the same time as the F-51 and the F-80 at Mitchell Field, WI.

In 1955 the 89th transitioned to the fighter version of the T-33, the F-80. The F-80 was flown in conjunction with the T-33 at Mitchell Field, WI.

In 1982 the 89th Fighter Squadron reactivated flying the F-4D Phantom II. The 89th flew the –D model, which had an upgraded radar, inertial navigation and other improvements. Missions for the 89th included air-to-air, air to ground, formation and air refueling. The F-4 was affectionately known as the Rhino and was incorporated into the squadron insignia.

In 1989 the 89th converted to the F-16 Fighting Falcon. The F-16 was the most numerous front line fighters from the mid- 1980’s to the 1990’s. The 89th flew the –A and –B model block 10 series airplanes. The –B model was a two seat version of the –A. The 89th F-16A/B’s were powered by Pratt and Whitney F-100-PW-200 turbofan engine producing 25,000 lbs. of thrust with afterburner.

In 1994, the 89th Fighter Squadron was deactivated. The unit was immediately reactivated as the 89th Airlift Squadron and became half of the newly reactivated 445th Airlift Wing. The squadron took on the new mission of strategic long-range cargo transport starting with the C-141C in 1998. In 2005/2006 it converted to the C-5A Galaxy and in 2011 received its first C-17A Globemaster III aircraft. The mission of the 89th Airlift Squadron is to deliver personnel and cargo, on time, anywhere in the world.

To install just move the folders to your:

Thanks to Sundowner for the skin. Thanks to DA for all the help getting these skins right.

SF2 Korean War Era USAF ANG F-84E Skin Pak

      = For SF2, Full-4/5 Merged (Reccomended/Preferred) =

The pak contains 2 new skins for the RussoUK's F-84E, and is designed to be used with my Thunderjet pak found at CA at the following URL:
      http://combatace.com/files/file/12300-republic-f-84e-thunderjet-by-russouk-for-sf2/

Skins/decal sets included are for the:

154th FBS, 136th FBW (Arkansas ANG)
159th FBS, 116th FBW (Florida ANG)

All new, 100% historically correct serial and BuzzNumber decals have been created for all skins. Those skins have stars (*) in their number lists next to the ID number, denoting those with 100% positive identification. Those without stars (*) served in the KTO, but I was unable to run down exactly which wing/squadron.
There are only 18 serial/buzz numbers for each aircraft. All decals are Randomized.
Also included is a small update for the 7/8/9th FBS skins; the addition of the squadron patch for the 'paint chip' seen on the Loadout Screen.
