NF-104 'X Plane" Mission
By bop1701
After reading about the flight research done around Edwards in the 50s, 60s, and 70s, I wanted to make a similar mission. This is an entirely fictional scenario, as I don't have any actual X-plane ad-ons to use for the sim, and I wanted to fly over Hawaii. The terrain is incredible.
You'll need:
Spillone104's terrific NF-104: https://combatace.com/files/file/11594-lockheed-nf-104a-for-sf2/
Menrva's beautiful Hawaii terrain: https://combatace.com/files/file/17485-hawaii-central-pacific-1959-2028/
Menrva's RealSky makes it great: https://combatace.com/files/file/16901-realsky-environment/
You MUST have the 'Start On Ground' setting selected on the Options page or you go BOOM.
The scenario starts with you dropping out from under a B52. Full throttle and light the rocket off and have fun. After burnout, try and glide to one of the runways for a deadstick landing. For more challenge, simulate the high drag lifting body (M2-F2/3, HL-10, X-24A/B) vehicles by popping your boards at the top of the descent.
I suggest maintaining 350+KIAS until beginning your flare.
If you go over 115,000', the sim gets goofy and you're out of the cockpit. As far as I can tell the aircraft continues on a ballistic trajectory. Sometimes you'll come down in an upright or inverted spin, and it's fun to try to recover and still be able to glide to a runway.

Training Missions
By Hornet54
Training missions
Just a trifle ...
Simple landing missions - one for landing practice on a carrier, the other for landing on AB.
To install, unzip the zip file and copy the uncompressed .MSN files to the "Mission" folder in SF2 NA or, after editing, to any Strike Fighter2 saved mode.
In the game settings, editor, loading or in mission files (.MSN) it is possible to change practically all parameters as needed.
Maybe they will come in handy ...

Beat the Clock! Anti-Runway Strike vs. Scramble
By Spinners
It's May 1977 and Israeli Forces are flying in support of Dhimar. You are commanding CRAB flight, a two-ship element tasked with destroying Parani airfield P11 but beware! A two-ship flight of Parani MiG-21PFM's from P12 are already in the air and a four-ship flight of Parani Mig-21bis are desperately trying to scramble from the very same P11 airfield whose runway you are trying to bomb!
It's a race against time. Will you get there before the MiG's get airborne?
Simply add this game generated mission to your Missions folder. A quad-merged install is required.
[MissionHeader]
AircraftType=KfirC2
MissionMap=DESERT
MissionType=STRIKE
StartTime=12:19:44
StartDate=05/14/1977
The game generated this mission and I just love those missions when MiG's are trying to get off the ground just as you get there so I saved it. i hope it works for you.

SF2_Norway_1986_v2.0
By jmarso
(Excerpt from README file)
This mission pack is designed to coincide with / complement Eburger68’s North Cape campaign. It is essentially the same scenario as the ‘Fighting Withdrawal’ campaign, told a slightly different way, with a twist and a new pack of single player missions designed to have some ‘story continuity’ to them.
Part I is an eight-mission pack in which you are assigned to VF-84 as an F-14A (82) pilot in Carrier Air Wing EIGHT, in September of 1986. When the war begins and the Nimitz battle group begins its fighting withdrawal, you are going to have your hands full fighting off hordes of Soviet bombers and aiding your Norwegian allies every way you can.
Part II is a ten-mission pack in which you are assigned to VA-86 as an A-7E pilot in Carrier Air Wing EIGHT. When the war begins and the Nimitz battle group begins its fighting withdrawal, the two A-7E squadrons are detached temporarily to land bases in Norway to press the fight against the Soviet invaders in the north. Two of the missions are transits, with eight combat missions in between.
Disclaimer: the weather in these missions isn't nearly as good as in the screenshots. ;)

Excerpt from README File:
Setting
In this ten-mission pack, you are assigned to VA-86 as an A-7E pilot in Carrier Air Wing EIGHT, in September of 1986. When WWIII begins and the Nimitz battle group begins its fighting withdrawal from Norwegian waters, the two A-7E squadrons are detached temporarily to land bases in Norway to press the fight against the Soviet invaders in the north.
This mission set is designed to coincide with / complement Eburger86’s North Cape campaign. It is essentially the same scenario as the ‘Fighting Withdrawal’ campaign, told a slightly different way, with a twist and a new pack of single player missions designed to have some ‘story continuity’ to them.
Requires Eburger86's North Cape user made campaign mod.
This is actually Part II of a two part release. Like the SW movies, they are being made out of order. :p

SF2 USAF Red Flag Nellis AFB Proving Grounds
By Viper63a
SF2 USAF Red Flag Nellis AFB Proving Grounds
Viper63a
This is my mod install for testing new aircrafts, objects and weapons. Once installed, I backup/zip the whole mod folder so I can reset it after testing whatever mod I am testing. It's also a Red Flag simulator. So if you want to take your favorite plane to Red Flag, here you go!
Red Flag Nellis AFB is a stripped down Strikefighter2 installation based in Nellis AFB with only a handful of flyable planes against the pre-loaded USAF F-15s/16s and Navy A-4s/F-5s/F-14s Aggressors (All AIs). There are no Campaigns, only Instant Action and Single Missions. I recommend setting the Enemy AI to "Hard" to get the most out of this install.
I added, tweaked, adjusted and created new items for this mod, but the lions share of this mod was created by other faithful modders on CombatAce - ALL CREDITS TO THEM! Thank you!
This mod is an expansion for "Hurc's Nellis Range Mod 2.0" mod, so you will need that mod as well...
http://combatace.com/files/file/12573-hurcs-nellis-range-mod/
Enjoy!
*******************************************************************************
Installation for fully merge installs only...Using SF2 Europe as an example.
* Creating a new "StrikeFighters2 Nellis" Mod Folder:
In the "C:\...\Thirdwire\" folder..
1) Copy "StrikeFighters2 Europe.exe" to "StrikeFighters2 Nellis.exe"
2) Copy "StrikeFighters2 Europe.ini" to "StrikeFighters2 Nellis.ini"
3) Create a short cut of "StrikeFighters2 Nellis.exe" on your desktop.
4) Run the "StrikeFighters2 Nellis.exe" short cut. Once the game starts, Exit.
5) You have now created a new "StrikeFighters2 Nellis" mod folder in \user\...\Saved Games\...
Mine looks like this...Yours may/will look different.
C:\Users\<Your_Name>\Saved Games\ThirdWire\StrikeFighters2 Nellis\
* Download and install "Hurc's Nellis Range Mod 2.0":
1) If you haven't already - download, uncompress and install "Nellis Range 2.0" into your new SF2 Nellis Mod Folder.
http://combatace.com/files/file/12573-hurcs-nellis-range-mod/
2) Run the "StrikeFighters2 Nellis" short cut to start the game.
3) In the Single Missision Menu, Ensure\Select the F-15A and the Nellis Terrain. Exit Menu to Main.
4) Optional, set up the Pilot and Options menus to your liking or do this later. Exit Menu to Main.
5) Exit from Main.
* Configure and install the "Red Flag Nellis" Mod:
In the "C:\Users\<Your_Name>\Saved Games\ThirdWire\StrikeFighters2 Nellis\" folder...
1) Under the "Objects" folder, delete both "Aircraft" and "Decals" folders.
2) Uncompress "USAF RED FLAG..." zip file...
3) Copy the contents of "To_Mod_Folder" to your SF2 Nellis Mod Folder. Overwrite.
* Last steps...
1) Copy the "INITNELLIS.BMP" file from the new "Red Flag Nellis" Mod folder to "C:\...\Thirdwire\Menu" folder...
2) Edit "C:\...\Thirdwire\StrikeFighters2 Nellis.ini"...
a) Under [startup], change "LoadingScreen=" from "Menu\INITSCREEN.BMP" to "Menu\INITNELLIS.BMP". Save.
3) Edit "C:\Users\<Your_Name>\Saved Games\ThirdWire\StrikeFighters2 Nellis\Options.ini" file.
a) Under [instantAction], change "MissionMap=" from "GermanyCE" to "NELLIS_RANGE". Save.
* Now you have completed the install of the "USAF Red Flag Nellis AFB" and "Nellis Range" mod packs.
* I recommend setting the Enemy AI to "Hard" to get the most of this pack.
* Install any new or your favorite plane mods to test at the Nellis AFB.

SF2_2014_The Senkaku Conflict.7z
By jmarso
“The Senkaku Conflict” is a set of 11 single player missions in which you fly as a member of the JASDF (Japanese Air Self Defense Force) against the Chinese in a limited, regional conflict. The missions form a 'linear' style campaign experience with the aid of an included briefing book. I've been frustrated by SF2's campaign mechanism and wanted to put out mission packs that tell a bit more story and are a bit more immersive in nature, rather than letting the game's campaign code just generate mission after mission with no real sense of continuity or panache.
The premise of the missions is a gradually escalating dispute between Japan and China in October of 2014. While the conflict is fictional of course, the dispute over the Senkaku Islands is quite real and has the potential to turn into an actual flashpoint in the eastern Pacific. Some of the facts behind the conflict are mentioned in the Intelligence Overviews in the Mission Brief Book.
A full explanation of all facets of the mod is included in the README file in the zip file. That is the place to start for a full description of the mission pack, as well as information on required mods needed to play.
The Senkaku Conflict Mission Brief Book is included in the zip file in .pdf format. You'll need adobe acrobat reader in order to use the briefing book- I don't expect that will be a big issue for anyone here. The briefing book for this mission pack is what ties the missions together and tells the 'story' of what is happening and why. Unlike some of my other mission packs this 'campaign' does not branch, so the briefing book is somewhat simpler than in other mods where I've used the concept. A full explanation on the use and purpose of the briefing book is included in the README file.
Enjoy!

SF2_1991_War Plan Tripwire.7z
By jmarso
A companion mod to Operation Nordic Storm (Nordic Storm is not required to play this). This is a pack of 19 single missions designed and written to form a slightly branching campaign experience with the aid of an included briefing book to guide you through the process. I've been frustrated by SF2's campaign mechanism and wanted to put out mission packs that tell a bit more story and are a bit more immersive in nature, rather than letting the game's campaign code just generate mission after mission with no real sense of continuity or panache.
The mission pack is basically the land war happening in Germany before, during, and slightly after the events of Operation Nordic Storm. It's still WWIII in Europe, essentially, set in 1991. The premise is based on Tom Clancy's "Red Storm Rising", and although it doesn't follow it exactly, much of the scenario driven verbage in the briefing book will be familiar to fans of the novel.
A full explanation of all facets of the mod is included in the 'README first!' file in the zip file. That is the place to start for a full description of the mission pack, as well as information on required and recommended mods needed to play. None of the required mods were altered in any way by me, and all credit and kudos go to the mod authors for their work.
The War Plan Tripwire Briefing Book is included in the zip file in .pdf format. You'll need adobe acrobat reader in order to use the briefing book- I don't expect that will be a big issue for anyone here. The briefing book is what allows you to play a string of 'single missions' as a branching 'campaign,' as well as go beyond the game's often-simplistic definitions of success and failure for various mission types. A full explanation on the use and purpose of the briefing book is included in the WPT README file.
Upcoming projects similar to this one will include a short conflict fought between China and Japan over some territorial rights, and a fictional future conflict involving the US and an Iran deeply in cahoots with the Russians. Enjoy!

SF2_The Final Countdown.7z
By jmarso
A three 'single mission' pack based on the movie "The Final Countdown." It's one of my Top 5 favorite movies of all time.
The basic requirement for this mod is SF2NA patched to Jul 2013.
See the README file for details on mod requirements and installation instructions, as well as modding credits where due. Access the README file using wordpad to see it in its proper formatting.
Also included is a .pdf file titled "The Final Countdown Mission Brief Book." You'll need adobe acrobat reader in order to access this file. The brief book is in no way required to play this three mission set, but I included it for fun and immersion purposes. If you haven't seen the movie or 'know the story', so to speak, the brief book will bring you up to speed. The narrative in the briefing book provides some perspective on the 'crazy situation' from the deckplate level, so to speak. ;)
The three missions are titled as follows:
101 Splash the Zeroes!
102 The Great Hawaiian Turkey Shoot
103 The Battle of Hawaii
The first mission is straight out of the movie. The other two involve the 'alternate ending' we never got to see but really wanted to. For fans of this absolutely iconic movie, the screenshots included will give you some hints as to the content that awaits.
Again, all instructions and the few mod requirements needed are outlined in the README file. Enjoy!
Special shout out to JonathonRL who can be considered the forefather of this mod, and generously gave me permission to alter and use one of his terrain sets. Thanks!

SF2_!991_Operation Nordic Storm.7z
By jmarso
This is something nobody else may have done before, as far as I know. This is a pack of 30+ single missions designed and written to form a slightly branching campaign experience, with the aid of an included briefing book to guide you through the process. I've been frustrated by SF2's campaign mechanism and wanted to put out a mission pack that tells a bit more story and is a bit more immersive in nature, rather than letting the game's campaign code just generate mission after mission with no real sense of continuity or panache.
The mission pack is basically a more detailed, story-driven version of the campaign you play in SF2NA. This one is based a little more closely on Tom Clancy's "Red Storm Rising", the biggest difference being that the Soviets hold ALL of Iceland, not just part of it. Although it doesn't follow Clancy's novel exactly, many of the scenario driven elements of these missions will be intimately familiar to fans of the book.
A full explanation of all facets of the mod is included in the 'README first!' file in the zip file. That is the place to start for a full description of the mission pack, as well as information on required and recommended mods needed to play. The required mods list is a bit on the heavy side, but totally worth it. None of the required mods were altered in any way by me, and all credit and kudos go to the mod authors for their work.
The Operation Nordic Storm Campaign Briefing Book is included in the zip file, in .pdf format. I really enjoyed creating and play-testing this mod, and if it is well received I may do a similar mod based on a circa-2010 fictional conflict against Iran (with some Russian help) in the Persian Gulf. Feedback and bug reports are always welcome. The important thing is to read the README file in its entirety. Use wordpad to access the README file to see it in the proper formatting. Enjoy!

Combat Lancer
By paulopanz
Combat Lancer (March 15, 1968 to November 22,1968) The Combat Bullseye I tests of early 1967, clinched the USAF decision to rush a small detachment of seven F-111A's to Southeast Asia, under the name Combat Lancer, to boost night and all-weather attacks while testing the aircraft's over-all combat capability. Combat Lancer was preceded by Harvest Reaper, started in June 1967, to correct known F-111A shortcomings and prepare the aircraft for combat. The Harvest Reaper modifications (mainly more avionics and electronic countermeasures (ECM) equipment) would enter the F-111A production lines, if successfully proven in combat.
F-111A 66-0016 flew the first Combat Lancer mission on March 18,1968, attacking a truck park and storage area with 12 Mk11 7 750 pound bombs.
A simple strike mission made following John Tiller's WOV Combat Lancer Scenario http://johntillersoftware.com/ModernAirPower/WarOverVietnam.html.
WHAT YOU NEED:
- SF2V + Eburger68 Epansion;
OPERATIONS:
- Fly a night test mission with new F-111A over North Vietnam;
Install:
- all mod folder content in your mod install
- overwrite
That's all
Enjoy

The Great GuyRan's Missions Collection SF-2I/Exp.1
By paulopanz
After Exp.2 editor realise I hoped that many missions could be made, but it wasn't.
So I decided to look at our old ones .....
Here are my favorite WOI missions by the best (for me) historical mission designer, upgraded to SF-2I/Exp.1 current patch, I'ld like to share:
1955 - First Jet Kill - Meteor 8
1955 - First Jet Kill - Vampire 52
1966 - Hunting the Hunter - Mirage IIICJ
1966 - The Hunter Hunted - Hunter 73
1973 - First Nesher kill - Nesher
1973- First Nesher kill- MiG-21MF
1973 - Scramble at dawn - A-4H
1973 - Scramble at dawn - Mig-17F
1973 - Scramble at dawn - Mig-21PFM
1973 - Scramble at dawn - Mirage IIICJ
1973 - The Israeli Ace Epstein - MiG-21MF
1973 -The Israeli Ace Epstein - Nesher (Hard)
1973 -The Israeli Ace Epstein - Nesher
1973 - The Ofira Air Battle - F-4 Kurnass
1973 -The Ofira Air Battle - Mig-17F
1973 - The Ofira Air Battle - Mig-21PFM
1988 - Dogfight - F-15 Baz
1988 - Dogfight - Mig-29a
- planes edited, Squadrons, textures added
- more mission for each air battle using all the involved planes.
Please test both upgraded Hunting the Hunter (Mirage IIICJ) and new The Hunter Hunted (Hunter 73):
the old Hunter is very hard to catch when IRMs are finished and I was able (not an Ace like Giora Epstein .... )
to shoot down a Mirage or two in several missions .... a fantastic circus!
To install: all in main mod folder. You only need to add Syrian MiG-29a by TMF and make Vampire 52, MiG-17F, MiG-21PFM & MF & F flyables.
BTW Original readme are included.
Enjoy.

This mission pack follows the Operational Conversion Unit (OCU) training undertaken by Pilot Officer Ian Black during 1985/86, the last RAF pilot to qualify on the English Electric Lightning, as documented in his excellent book The Last of the Lightnings (ISBN-10: 075093073X; ISBN-13: 978-0750930734).
The missions in this pack are specifically designed to be used with Thirdwire’s Strike Fighters 2 Europe: Expansion Pack 2 (SF2E:Exp2), which introduced all Lightning types to the game. Where possible, stock objects and aircraft are used. Where necessary new aircraft, skins, weapons, and loadouts have been defined and are included in the pack.
The missions
The missions in this pack form a syllabus for an OCU course, similar to that undertaken by Ian Black at RAF Binbrook, which is broken down into the following phases:
Basic aircraft handling.
Basic navigation.
Basic radar operation.
Advanced radar operation.
Radar assisted interceptions, with a varying degree of difficulty based on the angle-off of an approaching enemy. Includes high and low altitude, high and low speed, and combinations of these.
Air-to-air refuelling (AAR), using radar to acquire the ‘tanker’.
Air combat manoeuvres (ACM) against solo and multiple bogeys, using training rounds to record ‘kills’.
Air gunnery school, using live weapons against drone targets.
Ground gunnery school, using live weapons against static ground targets.
Formation flying, culminating in a diamond-9 flypast to celebration OCU graduation.

SF2E: TSF: Submarine Hunters Mission Pack
By JonathanRL
SF2E: Operation Isbjörn: Submarine Hunters Mission Pack
By The Scandinavian Front Team
Stratos, this one is for you
Summary:
I am still trying to get this to work in the campaigns, but with Anti-Ship not working for defensive and all, it has been difficult to implement - to say the least since Scandinavian Forces always are on the defensive.
So I am releasing it in this format. An Aircraft, and a few Single Missions.
It is an Addon, you _WILL_ need Operation Isbjörn 1.1 or greater (current version is 1.4, so don't worry about that). This is due to Terrain and other Aircraft involved and me being sheer Lazy.
Link: http://combatace.com/files/file/12562-sf2e-tsf-operation-isbjorn/
So, what is this all about?
You will hunt Submarines, thats what. Best enjoyed with visual targeting and HUD on HARD. Good luck finding the sneaky little bastards. For you without Mission Editor, I have set up four different scenarios for you. Enjoy !

650404 F-100D Probable MiG Kill
By streakeagle
Four F-100Ds of the 416th TFS, call sign Robin, were tasked with RESCAP on April 4, 1965.
The flight had just started orbiting when they crossed paths with two MiG-17s almost head-on.
During the resulting dogfight, one of the MiGs was fired upon repeatedly by Robin 02.
Capt Donald Kilgus could see hits on the tail, but lost sight of the MiG in the clouds.
The gun camera had failed and no one was able to see what happened to the MiG.
So, the USAF only awarded a probable kill.
After the war, the VPAF admitted to losing three MiG-17s in air-to-air combat that day.
This was the first and last time F-100s tangled with MiGs in Vietnam.
Most likely, this was the first United States air-to-air victory of the Vietnam War.
Robin flight was on RESCAP and had just started orbiting .

/*****Design*******************************************************************/
After extensive testing, this mission uses the following design decisions:
Written for a stock SF2V install, no mods required.
The stock environment does not permit multiple levels and types of clouds/haze.
So the only the haze and cirrus layer are modeled.
The lead F-100D and second pair are on a SWEEP over the Thanh Hoa area.
The player is tasked as an ESCORT for the lead.
The initial aircraft positions reflect WSEG Report 116 Event III-2.
The F-100s are in an orbit at the Objective over water, south of Than Hoa.
The mission starts when the lead MiG is first detected by the F-100s.
The player and the other pair of F-100s are modeled as a separate flights with the same callsign.
This permits historical positioning of the aircraft and differing missions.
The player is flying as Capt Don Kilgus, Robin 02 (Rambler 01 of the 2nd Rambler flight in the game).
The MiG-17s have been broken up into two flights.
This permits historical starting positions and target objectives.
Outcomes are typically close to historical results, but depend greatly on how the player flies.
The MiGs tend to run away when being tailed.
However, if not pursued, they will get a good firing position and score kills.
/*****Playing Tips*************************************************************/
The mission begins with the enemy nearly head-on at 12:30 o'clock and closing fast.
The first thing the player should do is jettison all ordnance and break into the threat.
The F-100D has less power and is less maneuverable than the MiG-17.
Do everything you can to keep your speed as high as possible.
Do the following to make this mission challenging and realistic:
ONLY USE THE NORMAL IN-COCKPIT VIEWS: <F1>, <F2>, and <F3>
Do not use map <M>, target <T>, padlock <F4>, or any view target <F8> keys.
Doing so provides the player with exceptional situational awareness.
The player unrealistically always knows everyone's location.
This extra knowledge allows a skilled player to possibly kill both MiG-17s.
Be proficient with the POV hat, look up <NUM 5> key, and zoom view controls.
Due to the way the game renders distant targets, spotting MiGs is very hard.
MiGs that are not very close cannot be seen at all when zoomed out.
Learn to zoom in and scan the horizon for small moving dots.
This will be frustrating and the spotting distances may seem unrealistic.
The end results are exceptionally realistic.
The player may frequently get lost or disoriented.
Like real pilots, level out and/or use check turns to find your way back.
It will take skill and luck to spot MiGs.
It requires even more skill and luck to get one or more kills.
Of course, TrackIR makes this whole process much easier and realistic.
Play the mission several times following these restrictions.
Once used to it, the player will learn two skills critical to real pilots:
1) Visual scanning discipline to focus and pick out distant contacts.
2) Situational awareness to mentally track planes not within view.
Good luck!

Classified Mission Mod (Version 1.1)
By FastCargo
Classified Mission Mod authored by FastCargo
********** Version 1.1 ***********
Updated to be compatible with the Jan 2011 patch.
********** Version 1.0 ***********
This is a small mod designed around ONE mission. It's footprint is relatively small, but all encompassing and everything is designed to execute this one mission. Make sure you read the "INSTALL INSTRUCTIONS - READ ME FIRST.TXT" file and follow the instructions explicitly, or you will mess something up!
This is a complete modification to the Strike Fighters 2 sim (any of the SF2 series), and as such, is not guaranteed to be compatible with any additional mods or changes. Using anything from this mod, or adding anything to this mod, may 'break' the mod or the mod you are transferring stuff to.
In short, use it as a stand alone mod and don't screw with it!
************ Installation *************
What you will need:
1. Any of the Strike Fighters 2 series (SF2, SF2V, SF2E, SF2I or merged) patched to the June 2010 level.
*************Notes************
1. This mod's effect is based heavily on surprise, so I would recommend not reading anything in the 'To Read AFTER The Mission' until, well, after you've flown the mod. The mod quite deliberately restricts several things on the sim in order to increase the effect...nothing has been permanently disabled or broken. So don't post that I broke your sim...
2. Enjoy it, look for some easter eggs, and definitely read the notes in the 'To Read AFTER The Mission' for some background information, disclaimers and credits...a lot of folks helped in making this mod.

650404 First F-105 Losses for SF2V
By streakeagle
Three F-105Ds were shot down on April 4, 1965.
At least two of them were lost to MiG-17s from the 921st Regiment at Noi Bai.
These were the first US aircraft lost to VPAF MiGs in Vietnam.
Zinc flight of the 354th TFS was bounced while orbiting the Initial Point.
The lead pair of F-105s never saw the MiGs and did not respond to radio calls.
One pair of MiGs fired on the lead pair of F-105s and badly damaged them.
The trailing pair of F-105s evaded another pair of MiGs.
The damaged F-105s tried to divert to Da Nang, but could not make it.
Both pilots ejected at sea, but neither survived.
Zinc 01, Maj Frank Bennett in 59-1754, drowned before being recovered.
Zinc 02, Capt James Magnusson in 59-1764, was never found and declared MIA.

After extensive testing, this mission uses the following design decisions:
Written for a stock SF2V install, no mods required.
The stock environment does not permit multiple levels and types of clouds/haze.
So the only the haze and cirrus layer are modeled.
The F-105 mission is a STRIKE on the Thanh Hoa "Dragon's Jaw" bridge.
The initial aircraft positions reflect WSEG Report 116 Event II-1.
The F-105s are in an orbit at the IP, 10 miles south of the bridge.
The mission starts when the 2nd pair of MiGs are first detected by Zinc 03 & 04.
The lead pair of MiGs start very close to the lead pair of F-105s.
The lead pair of F-105s have poor pilot quality to simulate their unresponsiveness.
This almost guarantees that the MiG-17s will immediately shoot down Zinc 01 & 02.
The trailing F-105s are modeled as a separate flight with the same Zinc callsign.
This permits historical positioning of the aircraft and different pilot quality.
The player is flying as Zinc 03 (Zinc 01 of the 2nd Zinc flight in the game).
The MiG-17s have been broken up into two flights.
This permits historical starting positions and target objectives.
Two flights of F-100s were in the area and may have gotten one or more MiG kills.
However, the F-105s never saw them, so I have left them out.
Outcomes are typically very close to the historical results.
/*****Playing Tips*************************************************************/
The mission begins with the enemy very close at 7 o'clock and closing fast.
The first thing the player should do is jettison all ordnance and break hard.
The player should also issue a "break" or "cover me" command to his wingman.
If the player survives, try to support any other survivors.
Continuing the bridge attack after escaping the MiGs is the only way to "win",
but the game engine victory conditions should be ignored for this mission.
A true victory is landing at Da Nang with more than two F-105s.
It is possible to pick up some kills, but very risky, so consider disengaging.
In reality, the undamaged F-105s ignored the MiGs to help the damaged ones.

660629 First F-105 MiG Kill for SF2V
By streakeagle
June 29, 1966 was a pivotal point in the air war over Vietnam.
Restrictions on bombing in Hanoi and Haiphong were lifted by Washington, D.C.
The first targets were major POL storage depots (Petroleum, Oil, and Lubricants).
The USAF struck Hanoi and the USN struck Haiphong on this day.
About 56.8% of North Vietnam's POL storage capacity was destroyed.
However, another significant even took place on this day.
An IRON HAND flight of four F-105s was bounced by four MiG-17s.
Two F-105s were damaged.
One MiG-17 was hit and last seen diving into a cloud just above the ground.
This MiG-17 became the first confirmed kill by an F-105.
The pilot was Maj. Fred L. Tracy of the 421st TFS, 388th TFW.
He was flying in F-105D 58-1156, callsign Crab 02.
/*****Sources******************************************************************/
"MiG Killers" by Donald J. McCarthy, Jr.
Brief synopsis of the aircraft and pilot involved.
"Clashes" by Marshall L. Michel III
Detailed but generic account of the action, no name, units, etc.
USAF "Red Baron" WSEG Report 116 Event II-15
Incredibly detailed account.
/*****Design*******************************************************************/
After extensive testing, this mission uses the following design decisions:
Written for a stock SF2V install, no mods required.
The stock environment does not permit low level clouds experienced that day.
Only the higher level clouds are modeled.
The initial aircraft positions reflect WSEG Report 116 Event II-15.
the mission starts when the MiGs are first detected by Crab 04.
However, the AI cannot be "bounced" as was historically the case.
So all F-105s are immediately aware the approaching MiG-17s.
This means that the MiG-17s do not get the first pass on Crab 01 and Crab 02.
It also means that Crab 02 does not automatically get a point-blank free shot.
It does lead to the correct situation of trying to clear MiGs from tails.
The historical F-105 mission is SEAD until the arrival of MiG-17s.
This forced the F-105s to jettison their ordnance to evade attack and engage.
So the flight leader, Crab 01, has been placed on a SWEEP mission.
This makes the AI flight leader drop all ordnance and focus on the MiGs.
The player is flying as Crab 02.
Presently, players can only be the lead aircraft in a flight.
So, Crab 02 is modeled as a separate flight assigned to ESCORT Crab 01.
The player cannot issue commands to any other aircraft.
The focus is realistically shifted from MiGs to protecting the flight leader.
To win the mission, the flight leader must live.
As in reality, MiG kills are just an added bonus.
Crab 03 and 04 are also a separate flight.
This permits historical initial positioning of the aircraft.
The default game formation is too close together.
This is also necessary due to the player being assigned as a separate flight.
Otherwise, Crab 03 would end up in the wingman position of Crab 01.
Crab 03 and Crab 04 are also assigned to ESCORT Crab 01.
This largely makes them act as members of Crab 01's flight.
The MiG-17s have been broken up into two flights.
A three plane flight and a single plane flight.
This permit historical starting positions.
Historically, the F-105s got separated.
Each pilot made decisions based solely on what they saw or heard.
Some F-105s disengaged while others were still fighting.
This is an added advantage to having one flight get broken up into several.
Each flight decides to fight or flee independently of the other flights.
This permits outcomes that are very close to the historical results.
/*****Playing Tips*************************************************************/
This extra knowledge allows a skilled player to easily kill all of the MiG-17s.
The first thing the player should do is jettison all ordnance.
Then the player should maneuver to cover the flight leader's tail.
The flight leader, Crab 01, is very close and to the right of the player.
Crab 01 can be observed to jettison his ordnance at the start of the mission.
Historically, Crab 01 broke to the left, but the AI breaks to the right.
Next, a decision will have to be made:
Follow and protect the flight leader, or engage any MiGs encountered.
Play the mission several times following these restrictions.
Once used to it, the player will learn two skills critical to real pilots:
1) Visual scanning discipline to focus and pick out distant contacts.
2) Situational awareness to mentally track planes not within view.
Good hunting!

Historic mission: First jets kill over Israel

Historic mission: First jets kill over Israel
After IDF attacks on terrorists bases (Fedayoon) in the Gaza strip on August 1955, the EAF start penetrating the aerial borders of Israel. On September 1, 1955, a formations of four Vampires has crossed the border into Israel, northern to the Gaza Strip.
Captain Aharon Yoeli in a Meteor FR-9 (no. 36) and Captain Yoash Tzidon his wingman, from the 117 first jet squadron, were inside the cockpit, on the runway of Hatzor AB, in an intercept standby.
As soon as the aerial control unit has identified the invasion, the two Meteors were scrambled. They were vectored into an intercept course with the approaching EAF Vampires.
During the airfight that follows, over the Mediterranean Sea coast, near Ashkelon, two Vampires were killed by Aharon Yoeli in Meteor 36.
The EAF command soon announced that, two Vampires on a training mission had mid air collision.
This was the first jet kill ever, by the Israeli Air Force, and the first air kill since the 1948 war of Independence.
Flyable aircraft:
IAF Meteor F-8
EAF Vampire FB52
To install:
Unrar into a separate folder.
Drop everything into the similar folder on the SF2I Exp1 mod directory, overwriting files if asked to.

The Ace of Aces mission - SF2 Israel
By guyran
Historical missions for SF2 Israel:
(Updated from WOI mission)
The Ace of Aces
First fighter squadron 101 Neshers vs. Egyptian Mig-21.
Colonel Giora Epstein is a retired colonel in the Israeli Air Force (IAF) believed to have shot down more jet aircraft than any other pilot. Epstein was credited with 17 kills, all against Egyptian aircraft. With seventeen confirmed kills, Giora Epstein remains the world's top scoring jet fighter pilot making him the "ace of all aces".
During Yom Kippur War, October 20, 1973; already a double Ace with 10 kills, Giora Epstein maneuvers his 101 Squadron Nesher after a decoy of 2 Mig-21 Egyptian aircrafts. On the deck are 16 Mig-21 Egyptian aircrafts waiting in a perfect ambush. After 3 of the Neshers returned to base, Epstein fought alone against 11 Migs. The results of the battle were: 4 Migs-21 downed by the Israeli Ace.
The full story of this battle is in the Giora Epstein Story.txt file.
To install:
Unrar
Copy the msm files into the mission folder of SF2 Israel.
You can play Giora Epstein's mission either in normal or hard difficulty. The hard mission is very challenging.
You can also play the 'crazy mig' pilot role. Remember if you are playing the Egyptian pilot, don’t engage the Neshers on sight, lure them into the waiting ambush first.
I invite everybody who plays the mission to post (in the announcements topic), how many Mig's kill you've got in normal/hard mission.
For suggestions or remarks just send me a massage.
Enjoy
