Tuba2 1 Posted January 11, 2009 Ok guys, what was your first taste of combat flight simulator, and by that I mean a game in contemporary or historical setting, with "real" planes and played from the cockpit. Mine was LucasFilm Games/Lawrence Holland's "Their Finest Hour : The Battle of Britain" (it was indeed, one of the first four games I owned, the other three being SimCity, M1 Tank Platoon and Zak McKracken), which I played, at first, in 1989 on a ridiculous 8088 with a CGA (4 colors, black, white, cyan and the dreaded magenta) display. Can't believe the time I spent playing at the time, anyway, that started a long, very long serie of simulators over the years. So, what was the first sim that got you hooked to the genre ? Boy you must be as old as I am. Played "Their Finest Hour" by the hour(s) in the 60's. Still go back and give it a go once or twice a year on an old computer (DOS). Great views since in the cockpit is much better than some of the external view floating sight ones that are much newer. I was very disappointed when Secret Weapons over Normandy came out in the form it did. I was expecting a TFH using the improvements in graphics.
jag 0 Posted January 11, 2009 Oh goodness. Everyone is showing their age now. Mine was Yeagers combat, and Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe (SWOTL).

Oh yhe,I think it was Super Huey on the Commodore 64,then the F-15 Strike Eagle but i'm not realy sure about this. Even programed a realy simple wireframe sim on the Commodore 128 a couple of years later. Those were the fun days.Everything was simple and naive .
