  1. New Zealand A-4K Skyhawk Pack for SF2 Re-dux MAJOR UPDATE 14/02/11

    MAJOR UPDATE: 14/02/11

Thanks to alejandro all 3d models are now correct. Squared off tail fin, braking parachute, varies aerials and antenna unique to the New Zealand A-4K Skyhawks have now been added. Due to the way they have been created with the fake pilot method an overhaul was required. I have also re done the markings on all skins, things such as walkway lines, stencils, warning markings etc are now historically accurate. A few other minor faults have also been corrected.

When you re install this mod you will need to delete all previous RNZAF A-4 aircraft folders (A-4_70, A-4_72, A-4G_RNZAF, A-4_Kahu and A-4_Kahu_II) and override all files when you install it.

This is the ultimate Royal New Zealand Skyhawk pack updated from my old Royal New Zealand Air Force A-4K Skyhawk package for Strike Fighters 2.After doing some major research for a RNZAF Skyhawk model kit I decided to upgrade my previous RNZAF Skyhawk pack but realising how much needed to be changed I decided to throw it out and create an all new far more historically/ technichally accurate pack.

    Features:

    * 5 different versions with separate models (all stock Third Wire) that cover the major changes to the airframes over the 30 years it was in service.
    - A-4K_70 Original 10 single seater Skyhawks introduced in 1970 with avionics humps (empty) and straight refuelling probes.
    - A-4K_72 Around 1972 the fleet started being retrofitted with angled re-fuelling probes.

    - A-4K_85 In 1985 the fleet started being repainted in Euro 1 camouflage.
    - A-4K_Kahu In 1986 a modernisation project was started that saw the removal of the avionics hump, an AN/APG-66NZ radar installed along with a glass cockpit, HUD, ALR-66 RWR, ECM, countermeasures and modern weapons capability.
    - A-4G_RNZAF In 1984 New Zealand purchased 8 A-4G Skyhawks from Australia that were eventually converted to the A-4K Kahu standard.

    * Over 24 different skins that cover all models of Skyhawk in New Zealand service from 1970 to 2001. Most are for the entire fleet but some are for specific aircraft with an unusual feature/ scheme etc.

    * Use of the ‘StartDefaultDate=’ feature ensures a historically accurate skin is automatically selected depending on what year you choose to fly.

    * 3 different pilot models that cover the change in flight gear over the years.

    * Extensive RWR.TGA files and updated RWR.LST

    * Historically accurate serial numbers depending on the time period and aircraft type.

    * Files and instructions to integrate the RNZAF A-4K into two of the the NATO fighters campaigns.

    * Data.ini files reflect my research into the actual A-4K and it's features.

    * Opening cockpits 'shift' + '0'
    * Working landing lights.

    * Reflective white strips added to some skins of late model aircraft as seen on real aircraft.

    Instillation:

Note: Only tested in an all SF2 games merged install however it will work in some of the others as long as they have the right Third Wire A-4 models.

    * Historical:

-Simply put files from the ‘Main RNZAF A-4 pack’ folder into the appropriate locations in you mods folder. Override when prompted.

    * Extras:

    - To add the RNZAF Skyhawk to the 1979 and 1986 NATO fighters campaign put the files from the ‘NATO fighters campaign’ folder into the correct place in your mods folder and override when asked. You will need to back up your campaign files first. You will need NATO fighters IV installed up to the Post-Dec2009 Update Pack # 3. http://combatace.com...-update-pack-3/ You will also need Alternate 1986 Red Storm campaign for NATO Fighters 4+ Dec 2009 Patch and Beyond by Dave installed for the A-4K to work in the 1986 campaign. http://combatace.com...tch-and-beyond/ This is because that is what I had installed when I edited the files to add the A-4K and those are the files I’ve uploaded here.

    - Fictional and What if skins: This will add a series of grey, Red flag and desert storm skins. Put the files from the ‘Fictional and What if skins’ folder into the correct locations in your mods folder.

    - A-4K II: In the ‘Proposed A-4K II’ folder is an additional aircraft that represents Phase II of the Kahu upgrade project. In 2000 when the F-16 was selected as a replacement for the Skyhawks an alternative option was also put together by the RNZAF which was Phase II of the Kahu upgrade done in the 80’s. These additional upgraded would involve a self designation capability for the LGBs, a new anti-ship missile and a new ejection seat. To this end the Litening pod had been selected and would have been migrated to the F-16 program if it had continued. To install simple put the files from the files from the ‘Proposed A-4K II’ folder into the correct locations in you mods folder and override.

Credit: Third Wire for the game, James Fox for his RNZAF skins & decals that I used as a base and wilco for his angled re-fueling probe mode for the A-4K_Kahu & landing lights mods and alejandro for the 3d mods to make it a true K model Skyhawk.

Note: I've deleted the old RNZAF A-4K Skyhawk Pack for SF2 as this replaces it.

    Enjoy,

    Dan.

  2. Raytheon T-6C Texan II for SF2

Raytheon T-6C Texan II for SF2

This is the T-6C Texan II as used by No 14 Squadron RNZAF for the SF2 series of games.

The T-6C Texan II is an upgraded version of the T-6B with wing hard points, intelligence/ surveillance/ reconnaissance capabilities, a digital glass cockpit that includes a Head-Up Display, six multi-function displays, Hands On Throttle And Stick.

I created this version of the T-6 by using Dels amazing AT-6B and removing the parts that differentiate the AT-6B from the T-6C. This works perfectly as the T-6C is the upgraded version of the T-6B, which is what the AT-6B is the armed version of.

    Instillation:

Extract the files and place into your mods folder.

    Bonus Skins:

Included in the 'Bonus' folder are two what-if Grey RNZAF skins for the T-6C and Dels AT-6B.

A-4N Skyhawk ATSI (Grey) - A-4N Ahit (84) Operated but the private company Advanced Training Systems International in the Aggressor role. Two tone grey camo

I have included modified Yom Kippur and Lebanon War campaigns edited to include the A-4N as it was very active in both wars. You will need to have installed my Third Wire A-4E/H/F Ahit upgrade/ Enhancement for SF2 1.0 for the modified campaigns to work correctly.

    http://combatace.com/files/file/14397-third-wire-a-4ehf-ahit-upgrade-enhancement-for-sf2/

    Gameplay notes:
    - Cockpits are stand-ins however all the HUD displays, radar displays, RWR displays are correct.

    - To give the A-4N Ahit Pave Penny/ LGB the ability to use Laser Guided Bombs in the CAS role I created a ghost LP weapon station that can be loaded with a 'Shaldag FAC Laser Designation Team' which is the real life IAF special forces team that designated targets for the A-4N. If you don’t like the way it works just delete it from the weapons folder and stick to dumb bombs for everything except strike missions.

  4. 'What if' F/A-16C Blk 30/32 CAS Vipers

'What if' F/A-16C Blk 30/32 CAS Vipers

    Background:

In the 1980's, the USAF started setting aside F-16s for the planned A-16 modification, a dedicated CAS version. In 1989, the designation block 60 was reserved for the A-16. The A-16 Block 60 was to be equipped with a 30 mm cannon. This project failed because the 30 mm gun would heat up and singe the inner components of the left fuselage.

The Block 60 did not go into production and the A-16 became wrapped up in the debate about close CAS. The supporters of the A-16 project wanted the USAF to replace its A-10A Thunderbolt with A-16's, arguing that the A-10 was too slow to survive above a high-tech battlefield. Detractors argued that the A-16 had insufficient range and load-carrying capability to make an effective attack aircraft, and, in addition, it would be too vulnerable to enemy anti-aircraft fire.
However the USAF was ordered to retain two wings of A-10 aircraft for the CAS mission. No order for the A-16 was ever placed.

When the USAF was forced to opt for the A-10 instead of the A-16, the decision was made to retrofit up to 400 existing Block30/32 F-16C/D's with new equipment to perform the CAS and BAI (Battlefield Air Interdiction) missions, effectively killing the A-16 program. Modifications would include a GPS, Digital Terrain System, system hardening, modular mission computer, and an Automatic Target Handoff System.

A prototype Block 30 was based at Shaw AFB and went through numerous physical adjustments. Official designation, was to be F/A-16. In January 1992, this plan too was abandoned in favor of using LANTIRN Block40/42 F-16C/D's.

The USAF was reluctant to let the idea of a dedicated CAS F-16 go, and planned to replace its A-10's with F-16s fitted with a version of the Warthog's Avenger cannon. In November 1988, the 174th TFW New York ANG transited from the A-10A to the F-16A/B block 10, becoming the first unit to operate the F-16 in a CAS support role.

During Desert Storm, their F-16A/B aircraft were equipped with the GPU-5/A Pave Claw pod on the centerline station.

If the tests were successful, there were plans for a fleet of F/A-16C's with the same armament. To demonstrate the concept, the AF installed Pave Penny avionics, 30mm gun pods and European One paint jobs on 7 F-16C's. A single F-16D was given similar treatment with a Falcon Eye system as well. These aircraft flew from Nellis with the 'WA' tailcode.

The F-16s from the 174th were deployed to the Persian Gulf during Desert Storm, but the project proved to be a miserable failure. Precision aiming was impossible for several reasons:

    • The pylon mount isn't as steady as the A-10's rigid mounting;
    • The F-16 flies much faster than an A-10, giving the pilots too little time approaching the target;
    • Firing the gun shook the aircraft harshly and made it impossible to control;
    • Essential CCIP (continuously computed impact point) software was unavailable.

Pilots ended up using the gun as an area effect weapon, spraying multiple targets with ammunition, producing an effect rather like a cluster bomb. It took only a couple of days of this before they gave up, unbolted the gun pods, and went back to dropping cluster bombs.

And so the F/A-16C plan was quietly forgotten....

BUT...... What if the project was a success?

And so I give you the F/A-16C Blk 30/32 CAS Viper:

    3 separate aircraft:

    - F/A-16C Block 30 1986- 1993 (1986 Service date makes it NATO Fighters 5 compatible, 1991 would be more realistic.)
    - F/A-16C Block 32 1993- 2003
    - F/A-16CM Block 30 2003+

Unique CAS loadouts including the Pave Claw 30mm gun pods. There are heaps of extra loadouts if you have a look with the mission editor.

All F/A-16C have the Falcon Eye FLIR pod on the nose in front of the canopy. It was slaved to the pilot’s helmet which had a helmet mounted display. Basically anywhere the pilot looked at night he would see the world in infrared. It was also the West’s first HMD with targeting information, weapons cueing, navigation and terrain avoidance ques.

There are Euro-one style skins for the early F/A-16C, the latter blocks two have a mix of normal F-16 camo skins and a lighter ghost grey style like on the A-10.

    To install:

Drop into your C:\Users\xxxxxx\Saved Games\ThirdWire\StrikeFighters XXXXX

Included in the folder 'NATO Fighters 5' is a modified 1986 Red Storm NATO Fighters campaign that includes the F/A-16. It will show up as an extra campaign and not affect any of the NATO Fighters 5 campaigns.

    Credits:

    - The Viper Team for their stunning viper packs.
    - Ravenclaw_007 for his new weapon packs.
    - Migbuster fot the F-16C skin templates.

  5. F-106A Delta Dart in Vietnam (What if)

    F-106A in Vietnam (What if)

    Background:

During the late 60’s there were serious discussions in the USAF about deploying the F-106A to the conflict in Vietnam. Obviously this never eventuated but the possibility lead to project Six Shooter which saw a gun pack and an improved visibility canopy added to the F-106A. So what would the Delta Dart have looked like if it had served in the skies above Vietnam?

In 1968 the USAF conducted a Tactical Evaluation to evaluate the effectiveness of existing tactical manoeuvres by USAF and USN combat aircraft against the MiG-21 Fishbed. It was called ‘Have Drill/ Have Ferry.’ The ADC evaluated the F-106 and found its radar capable of acquisition of the MIG and that radar snap-up attack could be used to exploit the MiG-21's lack of fire control. The F-106 could use better acceleration to get beyond MiG-21 speed limits. A direct result of this evaluation was the ADC recommendation to “expedite fitting the internal gun, redesigned canopy, radar warning and ECM equipment into the F-106”.

So based on the above (factual) information I present the F-106A Delta Dart (69) ‘Nam’

To the SF2 F-106A I have added the following:

    - Permanently mounted M61A1 Gun Pack (Project Six Shooter)

    - Internal ALQ-100 ECM

    - Chaff dispensers

    - APR-25 RHAW (Audio only)

    - SEA camouflage (Day and Night)

    - Pilot in tiger stripped flight suit.

    - I have also applied the MA-1 FCS ECCM upgrade done to 314 F-106 in 1963. The ECCM system allowed the FCS to reject radar returns resulting from chaff dispersal by a target. As part of the upgrade a final modification resulted in increased missile performance. Modifications to the FCS permitted up to 35 percent more deflection of the Falcon missile’s control surfaces. This resulted in a more agile missile at launch, increasing the missile’s ability to react to a maneuvering target.
To portray this in the game I have made changes to the F-106 avionics as well as a specific ECCS AIM-4F missile.

    Notes:

    - The AIM-4G has been changed to have no audible growl (It never had it) and is slaved to the radar. This more accurately portrays the employment of the IR guided Falcons. You will have to use the radar to know when you are locked on and in range. (Just like a F-106 pilot would have had to done in real life).

    - The weapon bay doors are manually activated, I prefer this as the animation doesn’t work with most missile shots when it’s set on automatic.

    - There is a specific version of the M61A1 gun for the F-106 as when installed in the F-106 its rate of fire was limited to 4500 rounds per minute.

  6. BOL countermeasures fix for the F-15C, EF-2000, JAS-39C, Tornado F3, NF4 Tornado F3, F-14A/B, F-14D, F/A-18

This pack corrects the countermeasures on the following aircraft to include the Saab BOL Advanced Countermeasure Dispenser:

    *F-15C http://combatace.com...ck-version-231/

    *EF-2000 Eurofighter http://combatace.com...urofighter-sf2/

    *JAS-39C Gripen http://combatace.com...for-sf2-series/

    *Tornado F3 http://combatace.com...ado-f3-for-sf2/

    *Tornado F3 (NATO Fighters 4) http://combatace.com...-update-pack-4/

    *F-14A & B http://combatace.com...d-f-14b-tomcat/

    *F-14D http://combatace.com...297-sf2e-f-14d/

    *RAAF F/A-18 http://combatace.com...ike-fighters-2/

The BOL countermeasure dispenser is a 160 shot dispenser that has been integrated into a AIM-9/ AMRAAM launching rail (LAU-7, LAU-127/128/129,CRL,MPRL). The BOL is a non pyrotechnic dispenser that uses air scoops on the dispenser and the wing vortex of the aircraft to disperse its packets of Chaff. The countermeasure is launched rearward from a port in the rear end of the rail. For IR threats a new burning chaff product is being developed. For the above aircraft the BOL launchers are normally loaded with 160 chaff each which frees up the aircrafts existing pyrotechnic launcher/s for a full load of flares. That is what this mod recreates. The weapon station that carries the BOL launcher on the above aircraft has been made to stay even when the station is not loaded otherwise you would have chaff launching from mid air when you had no weapon loaded on that rail to make the node show up.

-USAF and ANG F-15C fighters had the four wing sidewinder/AMRAAM rails replaced with BOL versions around 2000.

-USN F-14A/B/D Tomcats had the BOL launchers fitted in the early 90’s in place of their two sidewinder rails.

-Australian F/A-18 Hornets had BOL dispensers added to the sides of the outer wing pylons, I have been able to paint these onto the skin.

-Unsure when the Tornado F3 was equipped with the BOL but they are on the two inside AIM-9 rail positions. I am unable to make the dispensing position move with the swinging wings so the chaff is launched from the position the rear of the sidewinder rails are in when the wing is in the fully swept position.

-I have been able to paint on the details of the BOL launchers on the Gripen rails as the way the skin was done allowed for it. The Gripen rails still disappear when not loaded as there is no dedicated position for short range missile rails like the other aircraft and the BOL launcher is only used when an air-to-air missile is loaded on that station.

  10. Third Wire F-8 Crusader Upgrade & Enhancement

This has been a labor of love for my all-time favorite fighter aircraft. The service period of this aircraft fits perfectly with the time period that the Strike Fighters 2 game engine gives its best: Gun armed jet fighters with short range missiles and early/ limited avionics.

    Changes:
    -    The ‘SF2V Air & Ground War Expansion v.2.0 Gold’ and ‘F-8 DATA & LOADOUT v1.0 update’ here at CA were used as a starting point for this project.
    -    Maximum G has been changed to 6.3 which is the airframe structural limit in all NATOPS publications.
    -    There are automatically operating ‘fake’ leading edge droops (slats) that simulates the pilot being able to lower them a few degrees with a button on the throttle for cruising flight and manoeuvring flight (aka dog fighting). By ‘fake’ I mean they are not player operated in SF2 or linked to the 3D model but the aerodynamic effect is realistically simulated. You will notice the droop indicator in the cockpit will change with them however. If they were manually controlled in the game the AI would not use them correctly.
    -    Single AIM-9 missiles and rails can be loaded instead of the Y-racks on all F-8 variants. This is done at the loadout screen (and by the loadout.ini file) it is set up so you cannot load single missiles/ rails and double missiles/ Y-racks at the same time.
    -    Cannons harmonized as per NATOPS manual and gun accuracy adjusted to real world levels.
    -    Adjustment to most decal positions and inclusion of Squadron codes on the wings.
    -    Additional details added to most stock skins.
    -    Additional squadron specific higher resolution skins with more accurate markings for that particular squadron.
    -    Included for F-8J (69) is a proposed SEA camo overpaint for the VF-211 aircraft on detachment at Udorn in early 1972 to school USAF pilots in Dogfighting. The repaint was initially agreed to but it would have added 1200lbs so it was abandoned. If you wish to use it and fly DACT against USAF Phantoms you can load the extra 1200lb at the load out screen via a unique station specific hard point.
    -    Overhaul of each data.ini and avionics.ini to bring them in line with the information in the F-8 NATOPS manuals, NATOPS supplements and F-8 Tactics manual.
    -    More detailed pilots and ejection seats.
    -    Fully compatible with ‘SF2V Air & Ground War Expansion v.2.0 Gold’ or Third Wire SF2V campaigns.
    -    Additional year specific aircraft to better reflect physical and avionic changes. As well as correcting a few mistakes and omissions by Third Wire.
    -    Below is the updated list of F-8 Crusader variants with the original Third Wire description where appropriate and the specific major changes made in addition to the general ones listed above:

    F-8C
The F-8C (F8U-2) entered service in 1959. F-8C is powered by J57-P-16 afterburning turbojet and can reach speed of Mach 1.6.
    -    Missing radar symbology added and radar performance/ parameters corrected. The radar cursor for selecting a target is a long horizontal line that moves up from the bottom of the scope and is only adjustable in range and not azimuth to select a specific radar contact.
    F-8C (66)
In 1966, F-8C received ALQ-51 ECM and chaff dispensers under project "SHOEHORN", after A-4 and F-4 were upgraded. The cannon ammo capacity is reduced slightly to make room for the ECM black box.
    -    Uses the TW F-8D model modified into a F-8C in order for it to have the Y-rack Fuselage weapon rails.
    F-8D
The F-8D (F8U-2N) was the all-weather interceptor version, entering service in 1960. It is equipped with AN/APQ-83 radar and more powerful J57-P-20 engine.
    -    Missing radar symbology added including steering circle, aiming dot, break X and missile max range.
    F-8D (66)
F-8D also received ALQ-51 ECM and chaff dispensers under project "SHOEHORN" in 1966. The cannon ammo capacity is reduced slightly to make room for the ECM black box.
    F-8E
The F-8E (F8U-2NE), entering service in 1962, was the final production version of the Crusader. It is equipped with better AN/APQ-94 radar, and two underwing pylons for air-to-ground ordnance.
    -    Radar frame lock, range and shoot cue lights all completely changed and now function correctly. See screenshot for more information.
    -    Missing radar symbology added including range rate circle, which also doubles as the steering circle, aiming dot, break X and missile max range.
    -    Missile firing order and cockpit weapon station section dial corrected.
    F-8E (66)
F-8E also received ALQ-51 ECM and chaff dispensers under project "SHOEHORN" in 1966. The cannon ammo capacity is reduced slightly to make room for the ECM black box.
    -    Significant use of the AIM-9C as after a lot of research it turns out they were commonly carried over Vietnam in this period, notably by VF-211.
    F-8E(FN)
The F-8E(FN) is the French Aeronautique Navale version of the F-8 armed with Matra R.530 missiles. Nicknamed "Le Crouze" by the French crew, it operated off Clemenceau-class carriers from 1964 to 1994 until they were upgraded to F-8P standard. F-8E(FN) introduced many of the features, such as double-hinged leading edge flaps and drooping ailerons, that were later incorporated into remanufactured F-8J for the US Navy.
    -    Equipped with the nose mounted IRST system like the USN F-8D and E.
    -    This is the TW F-8J model modified into a F-8E(FN) so the DLC is NOT required.
    -    Radar frame lock, range and shoot cue lights all completely changed and now function correctly. See screenshot for more information.
    -    Location of Matra R.530 missile rails corrected.
    F-8E(FN) (70)
    -    The nose mounted IRST system is removed from all French aircraft.
    F-8P(FN)
    -    17 F-8E(FN) are upgraded to extend their service life, included is the Sherloc RWR system.
    -    This is the TW F-8J model modified into a F-8P(FN) so the DLC is NOT required.
    F-8P(FN) (94)
    -    F-8P(FN) are fitted with a GPS navigation system and antenna.
    F-8H
Starting in 1967, F-8Ds were remanufactured as F-8H, with improved AN/APQ-149 radar, ALQ-51 ECM, and the same underwing pylons as F-8E.
    -    Retains the AN/APQ-83 radar from the F-8D but uses the physically larger and higher resolution cockpit radar display from the F-8E.
    -    Missing radar symbology added including steering circle, aiming dot, break X and missile max range.
    -    Radar frame lock, range and shoot cue lights all completely changed and now function correctly. See attached for more information.
    -    Missile firing order and cockpit weapon station section dial corrected.
    F-8H (69)
F-8H is re-engined in 1969 with more powerful J57-P-420 engine. It also has improved ALQ-100 ECM in a larger pod, and full cannon ammo capacity restored.
    -    Improved AN/APQ-149 radar fitted in place of the AN/APQ-83.
    -    Additional missing radar symbology added including separate larger range rate circle and separate smaller steering circle.
    -    A lot of fleet F-8H around this period have had their Nose IRST system (temporarily?) removed.
    -    Retains the ALQ-51 ECM.
    F-8H (74)
    -    After the Vietnam war F-8H has the improved ALQ-100 ECM in a larger pod installed, and full cannon ammo capacity restored.
    F-8J
F-8J is a remanufactured F-8E with improved AN/APQ-149 radar, ALQ-51 ECM, and other improvements such as double-hinged leading edge flaps and drooping ailerons. However, its performance has suffered significantly due to increases in its weight.
    -    Improved AN/APQ-124 radar installed.
    -    Radar frame lock, range and shoot cue lights all completely changed and now function correctly. See screenshot for more information.
    -    Missing radar symbology added including separate larger range rate circle, separate smaller steering circle, aiming dot, break X and missile max range.
    -    Missile firing order and cockpit weapon station section dial corrected.
    F-8J (69)
To restore lost performance due to increased weight, F-8J is re-engined in 1969 with more powerful J57-P-420 engine. It also has improved ALQ-100 ECM in a larger pod, and full cannon ammo capacity restored.
    F-8J (75)
    -    In 1975 the remaining fleet F-8J (along with the RF-8G) receive the ALQ-126 ECM and ALR-45/50 RHAW RWR. The nose mounted IRST system is permanently removed.
    F-8J (75) [w RWR]
    -    Identical to F-8J (75) above except:
    -    The cockpit radar display functions as a Vector RWR and not a radar. This is because in real life the pilot could change the radar scope from displaying radar images or displaying the RWR images. The F-8J did not have a separate RWR display. There was a setting in which it would be displaying radar images but if a missile launch was detected the threat bearing line would be displayed flashing over top of the radar images. Not possible in SF2 unfortunately.

    To install:
1, Unpack and drop into your main mods folder.
    2, Override when prompted.

  13. Top Gun A-4F 'Super Fox' for Strike Fighters 2 UPDATED 27/01/11

Top Gun A-4F 'Super Fox' for Strike Fighters 2

    UPDATED 27/01/11

    - Correct angled refueling probe added along with a landing light thanks to wilco's mods to my A-4N
    - minor data.ini updates
    - Opening canopy 'shift' + '0'

This is the modified A-4 Super F used as an Aggressor aircraft by the US Navy Fighter Weapons School (Top Gun) from 74 till 94. The Super F (Super Fox) was the ultimate adversary Skyhawk as it was equipped with updated J52-P-408 engine giving 11,200 pounds of thrust.

The Super Fox also had its avionics hump and associated equipment stripped reducing its weight and giving it an impressive better than 1:1 thrust-to-weight ratio.

Other modifications included the wing slats being bolted closed and removal of the cannons. However for the game I have kept the cannons and increased the rounds to 200 per gun (same as the A-4M) to give you a bit more dog fighting time :)

I have retained the countermeasure dispensers as I couldn’t find any information indicating they were removed but with no ECM or RWR I would advise you to avoid being engaged at beyond visual range haha.

Included with this aircraft is a Top Gun instuctor pilot skin.

Best way to enjoy this bird is to set up a guns only dogfight with the mission editor and go head to head with a few Tomcats.

INSTILATION: Drop files in to appropriate folders, override when asked to.

NOTE: Has only been tested/used in a merged install of ALL SF2 titles

Credit goes to column5 for their A-4E Super Echo which gave me the idea and provided a base for the skin.

  15. F-101 Voodoo Escort Fighter, as it was meant to be.

F-101 Voodoo Escort Fighter, as it was meant to be.
Before the F-101 Voodoo suffered from 'mission creep and bloat' turning it into a (failed) nuclear strike fighter it was meant to purely be an escort fighter to protect Strategic Air Command's bombers. Before the name change to F-101 it was designated the F-88K Voodoo. Those original F-88K specifications made no mention of any air-to-ground role ("not a pound for air-to-ground!") and included an armament of three AIM-4 Falcon air-to-air missiles employed by the MA-7 fire control system with APG-37 air-to air-radar, full 7.3 G capability and K-19 gunsight (as on the F-105).
    Features:
    F-101A Voodoo Escort Fighter:
    - Full 7.33 G.
    - Reduced the effect/ impact of  the stall/ spin when you pull up suddenly in the FM.
    - MA-7 FCS with AN/APG-37 Radar, 30nm range.
    - LABS/ bombing control system removed from cockpit and replaced with MA-7/ Missile control system.
    - K-19 Gunsight system (as on F-105).
    - 3x Semi-recessed AIM-4 Falcon Missile stations.
    - “Not a pound for air-to-ground!”
    - 1957 Service entry.
    F-101C Voodoo Escort Fighter:
    - As above plus:
    - Upgraded Pratt & Whitney J57-P-413 engines delivering 11,628 lb dry and 17,100 lb afterburning.
    - Upgraded AN/APG-125 Radar, 60nm range
    - (X)AIM-4H Falcon missiles with proximity fuse and enhanced manoeuvrability (1971).
    - 1966 Service entry.
The stock TW AIM-4D Falcon has had its performance data dumbed down in order (I presume) to represent its poor performance when used by the F-4D Phantom in the game. However the reason the Falcon missile performed so badly when used by the F-4D was more to do with it being used outside its engagement parameters and the complex/ lengthy manual firing process the F-4D could only used. When used as designed by the fire control computer (FCS) of the F-102A/ F-106A and fired within its parameters (the FCS  assisted the pilot with this) the Falcon was as effective as any other missile system of the era. In fact the IR seeker of the AIM-4D/ AIM-4G was the best on any IR missile until the AIM-9L was developed. As such I have corrected the data for all the Falcon missiles.

  16. Modern RAF Smart Bombs

    Modern RAF Smart Bombs.

    Includes:

    -Enhanced Paveway II

    -Enhanced Paveway III

    -Paveway IV

In order to simulate the fact that these weapons can be either GPS or laser guided depending on what the aircrew decide before dropping them I have included two of each type. One is GPS guided and the other is laser guided. On my RAF aircraft (GR4, GR7, GR9 and Typhoon) that use these bombs I have used the loadout.ini file to load a mix of GPS and laser guided versions of the same bomb to imitate that flexability in the air.
Credit goes to 331KillerBee for his Ordnance Shop II where these weapons have been modified from.

  18. Third Wire Stock F-4E Kurnass Upgrade/ Realism Pack

Third Wire Stock F-4E Kurnass Upgrade/ Realism Pack.

This mod will upgrade all the stock Third wire F-4E Kurnass Aircraft with historically accurate weapon loads, more detailed ejection seats, nuclear weapons capability as well as improvements to the sounds and effects.

    Instillation:

Simply copy and past into your mods folder, you MUST click override when prompted for example the export start year on the stock ALQ-101 is incorrect for Israeli service etc

    Notes:

1, Most bombing and attack loadouts will only have one or two sidewinders for self defense. You will also notice that the bomb on the TER closest to the loaded sidewinder is not loaded. This is exactly how the Israeli Air force did it to avoid clearance issues. Also when the center station MER is loaded with M117 bombs the front center bomb is not loaded. Again this is how the IAF did it the time. If you want to use fully loaded TERs and have four Sidewinders you can simple load them on at the load out screen.

2, Israeli Phantoms stopped carrying the AIM-7 in the late 70s/ Early 80s when the F-15 took over the air-to-air role for the IAF. You will notice this with the loadouts of the F-4E Kurnass 78. Instead of Sparrows a single Python 3 IRM was carried on a specially modified pylon in the right front sparrow bay. Extra chaff and flare dispensers were carried in the rear sparrow bays. However If you want to carry the AIM-7 you can select a loadout with them in the single mission editor (not the loadout screen) since presumably the ability to carry them remained.

Credit goes to Strahi, MGunny 331KillerBee's Ordnance Shop II, Mirage Factory for the sounds and whoever did the updated Mk7 ejection seats sorry.

  20. Third Wire DLC A-4K Skyhawk upgrade/ Enhancement for SF2

This is an upgrade/ Enhancement for the Third Wire DLC A-4K Skyhawk.

You will need the DLC A-4K: https://store.thirdw...m/store_dlc.htm

Instillation: As usual simply drop into your mods folder and allow it to override when prompted. (This is important as the export end year date in the AIM-9G is incorrect etc)

    Changes include:

    -a more realistic loadout.ini file,

-correcting of the air intake textures on all the textures,

-corrections to the squadron markings on the ‘Green’ and ‘Maritime Grey’ textures,

-accurate Royal New Zealand Airforce Pilot,

    -activation of the tail hook,

    -opening canopy,

    -landing light,

    -various other data.ini edits.

-a few shots of chaff in each airbrake to simulate the practise of filling the airbrakes with chaff to give the aircraft a limited ability to deploy a onetime burst of chaff by activating the airbrake.

Use the single mission editor to select and make use of some unique RNZAF A-4 loadouts

  21. Harrier GR.3 Trial Camouflage schemes

    Harrier GR.3 Trial Camouflage schemes.

As part of the Harrier II GR.7 development a new two tone green and a two tone grey camouflage pattern were trialled on two of the RAF’s GR.3 Harriers.

The Green scheme was chosen for the GR.7 as it was thought to be the most suitable in the low level European cold war environment. However the GR.7 soon switched to the grey scheme with the change to medium level tactics.
    Combatace fair use agreement applies.

  22. 'What nearly was' Royal New Zealand Air force F-16A/B Block 15 OCU/MLU Anthology.

'What nearly was' Royal New Zealand Air force F-16A/B Block 15 OCU/MLU Anthology.

When doing some research about the proposed Kahu II upgrade for the RNZAF A-4K fleet I found some good info on the New Zealand F-16 deal 'that nearly was' in the late 1990s/early 2000s. I decided to make as accurate 'what if' version I could.

Ive used the Mirage factory F-16A/B Block 15 OCU model which is the version we would have received as they were built for Pakistan but embargoed and put in storage.

I added a A-4K style UHF antenna just behind the refuelling receptacle.

I've left the weapons the same as used by the upgraded A-4K fleet in 2001 except for the addition of the Litening targeting pod and Harpoon ASM which were going to be procured along side the F-16. Since the RNZAFs primary role is close air support it was unlikely any extra money was going to be spent on any radar guided missile, such as the AIM-120, as their air-to-air role was seen as one of primarily self defence.

The terms of the deal included a Mid Life Upgrade at the end of the 10 year lease period when we would have purchased the aircraft. As part of the MLU I have included the integration of the AIM-9X along with the JHMCS as it stands to reason that the RNZAF's AIM-9L models would have been considered to be going out of date by 2009. The Pylon Integrated Dispensing System (PIDS) has also been included as part of the MLU as it is in some European Mid Life Upgrades.

Also on the MLU aircraft are ALQ-131 ECM pods which there were provisions for in the original terms of the lease but most likely would have been pushed out to the time of the MLU because of the extra costs.

There are 4 separate aircraft that represent the 13 'A' and 9 'B' model Vipers before and after a Mid Life Upgrade (MLU):

-F-16A Blk 15 OCU RNZAF (What if?)

-F-16B Blk 15 OCU RNZAF (What if?)

-F-16AM Blk 15 MLU RNZAF (What if?)

-F-16BM Blk 15 MLU RNZAF (What if?)

I've given the A models the serial numbers NZ6301 through to NZ6313 and the B models NZ6314 through to NZ6322

2 Different skins for the operational aircraft are included which are; the Pakistani style camouflage scheme the aircraft were already painted when New Zealand placed the order and they would have been delivered in. As well as an all over medium grey used on all current RNZAF aircraft since around 2003.

8 Special/Commemorative skins are also included such as; high-viz Commanding Officers aircraft, Rugby World Cup All Blacks supporters scheme, a couple of retro Kiwi Skyhawk style skins, an Aggressor skin plus a few others.

You can use the mission editor to load alternate loadout options that include the AIM-120 or are specific to close air support roles in Afghanistan etc

Also included is a extensive RWR.LST and set of RWR.TGA files.

    INSTILLATION:

Just Extract the files, then drag and drop into your mods folder and override when prompted.

These F-16 are a mix match between the best parts of all the F-16 mods available with new/modified/enhanced skins of my own. I've also re written most of the data.ini and avionics.ini files with updated data from the net especially when it comes to the performance of the radar after the MLU update.

    NOTE:
    - There were multiple separate F-4E deliveries prior to the 1973 war and due to the variations in the Blocks all sorts of different configurations of ECM antenna, strike camera, slats/ flaps, 'slime' lights,  MIDAS4 etc. Not to mention local upgrades of 'slime' lights, MIDAS4 muzzle mods and slat instillations. Now throw in the Operation Nickle Grass emergency aid ex USAF aircraft during the war! I have rounded them all up into the first three in-game variants below:
    F-4E_Kurnass       (with & without 'slimers')
