Menu and HUD font has changed and I don't know why
TheRealJuralumin posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
I don't really know how this happened, but the font for the menu and HUD has changed, text is now slanted and some letters and words are getting slightly cut-off, it's not game breaking in the slightest, but it is a bit annoying as some things have proven difficult to read. I will attach some screenshot examples. If anyone knows why this has happened and how I can fix it, it would be very much appreciated! -
How to change callsign numbers?
JamesWilson posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Hi everyone, I was wondering how to customize the numbers after your callsigns, since it always gives me the same ones. I think i managed somehow once, a bit of time ago, but now i forgot and have no idea how to. I'm not talking about how to customize the callsign name, but the unit number after it. As you can see in the Roster and in the picture under, i get "Fast Eagle 1-1" and "Fast Eagle 1-2" Here are some examples: The numbers on the tail, wing and nose numbers are customized, cause i managed how to change them, choosing them individually for each unit in the mission file by changing "AircraftNumber=" and typing the number, like "2" (as for 202). It doesn't change by typing the whole number tho, like 202 by typing 202, but it goes by typing the number that corresponds to the list of numbers you have. For example, In a list that goes from 200 to 400, you will have to type 10 to get 300. Here i just typed "2" and "7" since the list starts from 200 IIRC, in the past i just used to type the Aircaft number just like that, and in-game i had the proper number after the callsign, like "Fast Eagle 102", not just the number displayed on the plane livery. How do i do? I'm pretty sure that it's possible to have "Fast Eagle 102" on my screen HUD and in the Roster Thanks in advance for helping me. -
4 AMRAAMs per pylon (incorrectly) in loadout screen
JPMoney posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
I’m flying an F-16I Sufa mod for Strike Fighters 2 Israel. I’ve modified the loadout ini file in an attempt to change the missile types and positions on the pylons. I’m having a consistent issue with the outer pylons (not the wingtip mounts, but the furthest pylons from the fuselage under the wings). I want these to carry one AMRAAM each, and as far as I can tell I have modified the loadout ini, the related missile object inis, and aircraft ini to be able to accommodate this. However, when I go to a single mission in-game and access the loadout screen, those outer pylons are always empty (no missiles). When I go to add missiles manually to these pylons, all AMRAAM types only are available in “4s” and not “2s.” So in other words it’s trying to mount 2 AMRAAMs on each pylon, which shouldn’t be possible (realistically), as these are set up for single missiles only. The F-16I ini file does have a relatively complex series of pylon rules, but I believe I have it set up to be able to mount AMRAAMs on these pylons, and I can’t find any setting in any file that would allow me to indicate there should only be the option to mount one missile per pylon in the loadout screen in game. I suspect a setting related to this “4 missiles” issue is preventing my loadout ini file from operating correctly and defaulting my vipers to have AMRAAMs on those pylons. Any thoughts on a setting I am missing here? -
F-5 mod skins don't work
LaoHu posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
I downloaded this mod for the F-5 and all of the skins for the aircraft are black, which means the textures aren't loading but I can't find out why it isn't loading. There is no exact installation instructions other than extract it into the mod folder which I did and there doesn't look like there are any issues with the file placement compared to the other aircraft files. Can anyone help me out? P.S. the drop tanks have the textures working and the cockpit, loading screen, menu, etc all work. Everything but the skin. -

Howdy y'all! So, I installed Wings Over Europe via Steam, promptly updated it to the October 2008 patch, and fixed the stuttering by using the ENB patch for Skyrim (of all things). I also cribbed the DDraw.dll from the DgVoodoo install, which prevented the game crashing when pressing escape at the end of a mission. A couple of things to note here: - The renderer indicated in the options menu is not ENB, but my GPU still. Despite this, the game runs perfectly fine. - I turned the shadows down from Unlimited to High as I read on a forum post that this could help with z-fighting, but this did not solve the issue. I will turn it back up to Unlimited if it is all the same. - There are absolutely no other graphical issues in the sim what so ever, no matter the aircraft, time of day, or weather. The issue I am describing in the title appears like so in sim. I took three screenshots so you could see the way the dark boxes flicker on surfaces. It is not just aircraft, either, but also terrain. It seems to get culled in a circle as I turn my head with TrackIR: As you can see, my wingman gets periodically eaten by this weird black blob. I am at a loss as to how to fix it, and if it cannot be fixed, that's completely understandable given the Biblical age of the engine. Thanks in advance!

help Creating a .CAT file with a folder.
Lolmin2908 posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
Hello, I'll start off with just a one question; how do i create a .cat file? I don't even know if this is the right forum to do this but it was the best one. So why do i need to make a .cat file?, i wanted to add some RWRsounds to the sound list but was dumbfounded when it didn't belong in there. So i got the Cat extractor from thirdwire out and searched for the base RWRsounds, i extracted all the files from the Flightdata.cat and put them in a folder but now i am stuck with a regular folder that needs to replace the Flightdata.cat. But i don't understand anything when it comes to catalog files. If anybody does, please help me. I don't know what i need or what i need to do. Kind regards -
Some weapons aren't showing up
thejackie posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Greetings, first of all. This game is AMAZING, and it is one of the few good sims (or light-sims) that'll actually run on my laptop, it has a lot of variety and I seriously love that... I'd just like to know how to mod it better, you see, I've downloaded TONS of aircraft and, up to this point, they've all appeared on the list no problem whatsoever. The main problem is the weapons, now, I don't know what I messed up or how I did, but there's a lot of weapons missing, some of them pretty important. I'm looking for someone that can walk me trough this and give me some tips in the way. by the way, if you want to know which exactly are my addons, they're mostly aircraft and weapons, all of them ripped from the desert storm mod over to "vanilla" sf2, since I can't run the desert storm mod. I'm willing to do a lot of work to get my game back in order and I hope I can get some help.... with nothing more to add, I await for some pointers, thanks beforehand. -
Hi all, When playing Wings Over Europe whenever I select weapon, change radar setting, gear etc it all shows up in a small box at the bottom. It tells me what weapon is selected and radar distance, i'm sure you know what i'm talking about. But when I play Strike Fighters 2 this box does not appear. Did anyone else have this problem? I have deselected then selected subtitles as its the only setting that was different from WoE. *edit: I wanted to also add that time compression does show up in the box as well as pause and unpause. Thanks

HOW TO CHANGE DATE IN SINGLE MISSION ODS MOD?
JamesWilson posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
Hi everyone, I need help to change the date in "single mission" in the amazing ODS (Operation Desert Storm) mod for SF2 It lets me choose between years 1990-1991-1992 As soon as i end a mission and, for example, i get a medal or an award, it ofc says the date the sortie has been done... The problem is: since i can only choose the year, and not the month in mission menu, the date is randomically chose (for example i very often get months like august or december, even if the war had been fought only between the second half of January and February 1991, not any other month) How can i choose the month and day i want to fly for a single mission? So that i can choose the actual days the war happened instead of random 1991 months? I hope i explained well and that a solution can be found. I already tried changing Start Year and End Year date with January 1991 and February 1991, but nothing happened I truly love this mod, and imho it's absolutely perfect, but this is the only thing that "ruins" a bit (like getting a medal which says i flew over Iran on April 1991) and i'd like to fix it but idk how Thank you so much for helping me, seriously -
KEY SETTINGS UNASSIGNED AND STUCK
JamesWilson posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
After a crash, my Strike Fighters 2 Europe keys appear all set as unassigned. There's no way i can set 'em. Even if i bind them, they still be unassigned. I EVEN TRIED REINSTALLING THE GAME, and they are STILL all unassigned... I seriously have no idea of what to do, since this happened only in Europe and not in vanilla game or North Atlantic. There's also another problem: keys look "bugged" in SF2 NA, since i binded all of them, but some still don't work. As these won't be enough, they're bugged also because if i set a key for a specified control, and then i try to unassign it re-pressing the same key on another command, instead of unassigning the first command, it glitches and i can set two or more commands with the same key... this clearly bugged out Could you please help and tell me what can i do to "unbug" all of this mess? Thank you a lot guys, i appreciate your help so much- 11 replies

RADIO CHATTER MAKES GAME FREEZE AND STUTTER
JamesWilson posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Hi everybody, I have a very big issue in Strike Fighters 2, which i also had on Strike Fighters Project 1 before: whenever a radio communication is given (wingman, HQ, etc...) the game FREEZES for a couple of seconds. I tried EVERY SINGLE THING (lowering graphical settings, selecting my dedicated graphical card as default...) Nothing changed. I discovered that the problem is related to the audio communications files, since i tried deleting all radio chatter files from SFP1 game directory, and the issue is gone, no more stutters or freezes. The only thing is that i can only play the game without any form of radio communications, just ambience, weapons and plane sounds... that's kinda bad SO, I finally found out the problem is related to these files, i tried changing the audio channels into the in-game settings, switching from 16 to 8, to 24 and 32... I don't need to tell you that NOTHING HAPPENED. In conclusion, what can i do? I'm desperate since i can't find anything similar on the internet, and no one seems to have my same problem, so i can't find any solution. I thought that it was related just to the old SFP1, since it could maybe have some optimization problem on newer machines... but the exact same happened as soon as i played SF2 for the first time. I REALLY NEED YOUR HELP, and i thank you A LOT for helping me out, cause i really really have no idea of what to do to play it with radio chatter without being LITERALLY UNPLAYABLE Thank you all again -
AUDIO COMMS MAKE MY GAME STUTTER AND FREEZE
JamesWilson posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I got this problem: I run SFP1 pretty well, without any sort of issue. The only very tedious thing i have is that the most of the times a vocal call is given, my game freezes for like 1/2 seconds. This may sound like not a big thing, but TRUST ME, since this pops up for 8 comms given out of 10, this problem turns the game into UNPLAYABLE. And also (i got no idea why and what is the correlation with comms) almost every single time i shoot down a plane or i see an explosion in front of me, this issue happens. I thought it was a setting problem, maybe a graphical one, or something related to my PC, i could never ever though it was an audio file problem... I made many tests, but after several months of testing, removing all the audio calls files from the game files, i finally discovered what was the cause of those freezes: the audio communications. Even if the game is perfectly playable as it is right now, without any radio chatter, it would be nicer if i could play it with audio comms again, instead of just ambience, plane and weapon sounds, i really loved HQ calls, wingmen comms and radio chatter. I have no idea what could it be that "interfers" with the game and makes it freeze whenever a call is given, or even an explosion happens. Only removing all audio comms from game files the problem solved. Could you help me please? Any idea or suggestion would be great! Thank you a lot guys!- 6 replies

DESERT STORM MOD FOR SF2?
JamesWilson posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Hi everybody, I just got interested in the Operation Desert Storm mod, which is amazing imho. I haven't bought SF2 yet, and i see some planes (like the Tomcat) are not in the standard edition, but i should buy DLCs (North Atlantic expansion in this case). I've seen the Tomcat, among many other planes that are not included in the vanilla SF2 in the OP Desert Storm mod. Now i was wondering: do i need North Atlantic expansion or all DLCs for SF2 to get OP Desert Storm mod to work? Or even if i got no Tomcat in the vanilla game, as soon as i download the mod i'll get it together with all other planes and assets? Are all those things included in the mod, so i just need to install it, without having all SF2 DLCs bought? Or all the "extra" planes and assets i see in the mod are there thanks to DLCs and expansion packs? Thank you very much for helping me out guys- 10 replies

MOUSE CONTROL?
JamesWilson posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Hi everyone, I wanted to ask you if there is any way to fly the plane with mouse as yoke (just like War Thunder) in SF2 or SFP1 I know it's way better to fly it with a joystick, and that it's perfectly playable with arrow keys, but that's something i just wanted to know about. Let me know if there is any way to set this as yoke command. Thank you very much -
Hey, I own Strike Fighters 2 Flight Simulator I want to install new aircraft like the F-16 and F-35. The videos I have seen show an "EXE" and "INI" file. I don't have them. Also, I installed the game on a different drive named "G" rather than the o so common "C" drive. I read the Readme and the Knowledge Hub but the are unclear and/or again show those "EXE" and "INI" files. All the videos I have seen make a new standalone game and download a mod. I want to add an aircraft to the game, I don't know how to do it and if it works where I can select and play said aircraft. Please help me Idk if this is even going to be seen.

SERIOUS PROBLEM ABOUT PERFORMANCES REQUIRES HELP ASAP PLS
JamesWilson posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Hi guys, i have a very big issue regarding one of my favourite games of all time: Strike Fighters: Project 1. I play this beautiful old game on my PC and i run it pretty well at lowest settings and 1920x1080p (i had ALSO to change "default graphic card option" to my high-performances NVIDIA graphic card, due to the fact that the game heavily lags if i run it with the default graphic card option, even if it's all set on lowest settings). After i figured out this little issue, the game runs pretty smoothly and at an high framerate so, what's the problem? The problem is that whenever i hit or shoot down a plane or i look at an explosion, the game freezes for a couple of seconds... So i don't know what to do and why this happens… Is that because Strike Fighters: Project 1 is too old for a modern medium-high end PC? (I used to play it also on my previous low end Windows XP PC, and i never had any kind of problem) Should i play the game at lower resolutions even if all settings are already at lowest? Why had i to choose my high-performances NVIDIA graphic card to play the game without lag even if it's an old and well optimized game? Please help me, i know SF:P1 is a very old game and i should go for SF2, but the first one is one of my favourite games of all time and THIS PROBLEM MAKES THE GAME UNPLAYABLE!!! THANK YOU VERY VERY MUCH, cause this is a HUGE PROBLEM, i really have no idea of what to do and i'm very confused about what's happening...- 16 replies

strike fighther 2 Command configuration assistance
AxtonJT posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Hello people, I've recently came across Strike Fighter 2 by looking for a good Combat simulator which isn't very simulative (like DCS) but also isn't totally arcade (like the majority of the fighter games out there). Also I was looking for a good game with a chance to play tons of planes so I think I'm in the right place. Just to give some more details regarding my experience in Combat simulators, I've played from the oldest Jane's IAF, Eidos JSF to Warthunder. The last one is what I'm actually looking to achieve in terms of Command configuration. I guess SF2 is pretty tough to learn but I have some issue with the controls. I don't have any Joystick/Hotas/Gamepads so I kept the keyboard configuration, but I've noticed that is very hard to move the plane with the arrows especially to keep the plane straight in the same position. I've tried to go mouse+keyboard configuration but the mouse controls are reversed (if I move the mouse ahead the plane is going up, insted to going down as it should be) so it's even worst compared to keyboard. So I am here to ask you guys which configuration do you have, if you have any tips and if there is any way, maybe, to configure also the mouse in better way. Thanks -
A bit of help wanted with mods
General PB posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
i have still to figure out how to properly mod my new sf2 install and i am a bit of a dumdum when it comes those issues, i have tried to just mod the base sf2 campaign Burning Sands (1959) to give the mercenary squadron more cash as a start so i can figure out how to start doing the rest. i made a flight directory in my saves folder and extracted the missiondata001.cat into it i.e. my folder is: C:\Users\evil overlord\Saved Games\ThirdWire\StrikeFighters2\Flight\MissionData001 and i am trying to edit the campaign1_data.ini to simply add more cash to the merc squadron for now (was trying to add more land units and stuff but i am back to just trying to change one thing and getting that to work so i can later do a custom campaign) the options.ini has [Mods] ModsEnabled=TRUE Directory=C:\Users\evil overlord\Saved Games\ThirdWire\StrikeFighters2 Editors=StrikeFighters2 but for now, nothing changes when i try to start a new merc campaign, any ideas what i am doing wrong? -

I've been having this HUD problem on some of the planes I've downloaded. Is any one else having this problem?? here is the problem--- here is a mod plane with a working HUD---- And to my knowledge all vanilla planes are fine. I have also tried to put other aircraft HUD in to the no-working planes but so far been unsuccessful. P.S. sorry if this is the wrong place to post this. Also I have searched for an answer here and else where before posting. Thanks for any help u can give!! -
So I have been working on a terrain and I noticed that for some reason Mue's Target area editor does something to the target.ini file that makes it unreadable to the TFD Tool... This is what I did: I used the TFD Tool to edit some tiles... All targets are labeled and show up Then went into the Target Area Editor and made some changes to a target area and then saved... Went back to the TFD tool and the targets were no longer readable only 5 out of 200 targets show up... I noticed that the file TFD Tool has no problem with looks like this: [TargetArea001] Name=target area 1 Position=414937,147250 Radius=10000 ActiveYear=0 Location=1 Alignment=FRIENDLY <--------- with the alignment= statement last and on the one saved by the Target Area Editor its 3rd [TargetArea001] Name=Target Area 1 Position=414937,147250 Alignment=FRIENDLY <-------------- here at #3 Location=1 ActiveYear=0 Radius=10000 Anyone else had this happen?
